Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is $90 a night. For that you get a freezing room (no heating), disgusting bathrooms that haven't been clean in months. Hair clogging up the sink, no hand soap. Bathroom door doesn't lock. Shower useless. Towels stained. TV not working. Don't say you weren't warned.

We stayed here last weekend, the staff were amazingly friendly, food was good and the atmosphere fantastic. It was like we stepped back in time when things were a bit more simple. We'll be back!!! Soon!

When Mike and Kathy owned this place, there was always a nice warm logfire or a warm welcome. The new owners some time ago, weren't very generous with the firewood and one of our group caught a cold. This time, the fire had been lit but wasn't very warm, so we taught the chef how to light the other fire and things warmed up. They showed us around the guest rooms they had done up, and when the food came, mine was edible, certainly nothing wrong, somewhere between average and good, but everyone else enjoyed their meals greatly and one of the group reckoned irt was the best lamb shank she had EVER tasted, BUT, no-one took their coats off and all elected to go elsewhere for coffee. Go in summer when it's warm and I reckon this will be a gem.

.....maybe I was expecting too much. The new owners have not long taken over, but I was expecting certain standards/amenities from the title 'Hotel'. When we got into our room the ensuite toilet had only five or six sheets of paper on the toilet roll. Then it was discovered the toilet seat was broken and, yuck, underneath the seat hadn't been cleaned in some time😞. There is no furniture in the dreary room other than the bed; so nothing to put the cases on, or anywhere to hang the clothes. In fact we only found two hooks on the back of the door on the day we were leaving! The ensuite bathroom was recently tiled, but the only place to hang a bath towel (a towel ring) was coming off the wall. Getting out of the shower I discovered how slippery these new tiles were, and NO slip at is provided. The tiny little sink is too small. Storage space for tooth brushes, cosmetics, etc., is severely limited. We were there for two days and thought that the dead flies on the windowsill would have been dealt with in that time. Overall I would suggest that the Little River Hotel should be regarded as a backpacker establishment. The complimentary breakfast was appreciated, but spoons for the cereal had to be requested! And no cornflakes Or strawberry jam on day2, and no-one around to ask! In fact no staff, or owner, when we left.

To stay at this hotel was to be embraced by the community, all it took was to be relaxed and become part of it of one chose to do so. We did and from what could have been a very functional stay for the weekend turned about to be a great experience. The bar and restaurant were relaxed and friendly and Kathy and Mark made excellent hosts, and the meals which were substantial were better value for money than we've found anywhere. It was like turning back the clock and being older travelers enabled us to feel very comfortable. The accommodation is a bit dated, like the hotel, but we found that part of it's charm and any lack of amenities was more than compensated for by the genuine friendliness of Mark and Kathy and their willingness to welcome us into their Little River community. We can highly recommend their steak dinners, which we had both nights, at only $17.00 each and also the deserts which ranged in price from $2.50 to $4.50. It is well worth the stay.
