We cycled out from Chch to overnight camp at park; warm welcome; great location in nature; very tidy and clean ablutions and kitchen area; easy access to river for a swim; Jan & Dave fantastic hosts; lovely place to meet fellow campers and would thoroughly recommend the park.
We pitched our tent here in a great spot close to the kids playground and kitchens/bathrooms. Table and bench was provided plus lots of other outdoor settings near the kitchens. Everything very clean and well maintained. Short walk down to the river plus several short bush walks around. Very helpful staff.
We have just returned from two nights at the Ashley Gorge Holiday Park. Although we were camping they do have cabins available. The facilities were clean and the kitchens were well equipped with fridges, deepfreeze, good ovens, table and chairs. A small shop sold the basics. The camping ground was well marked with trees and lovely grassy areas. The camping ground was full of family groups and the children all looked very happy playing in the areas or playgrounds. There are not too long walks into the bush and of course the river with swimming holes. Great spot for the weekend as it is only 50 minutes from Christchurch and about 8 km from Oxford which has a few cafes/restaurants and arty/crafty shops as well as a small supermarket.
We love camping here. We can sit back at the campsite, which is very spacious, and enjoy the sound of the native bush or we can explore some of the walking tracks. The swimming hole is excellent but if you don’t swim it is just as nice walking along the river bank. With the hills as a backdrop it is very picturesque and it is so peaceful that it is easy to forget you are less than an hour away from Christchurch. The park and the facilities are kept clean and well maintained. Every time we go there something new has been done to improve the experience for the campers. The hosts and all the staff that you come in contact with during your stay are very welcoming. We love the fact that the campground is safe for young families and it is great to see the children able to ride…
