Detailed Reviews
Lovely campsite less than an hours drive from Christchurch. We stopped here after driving Arthur's Pass. Very quiet rural location with only the birds as background noise and a lovely riverside walk close by. Spacious grass pitches. A good last or first night stay if picking up or dropping off a motorhome in Christchurch. Facilities are clean but basic. Do take repellent for Sandflies though - as in many places in NZ and Aus these can be an issue.

Hi David Was lovely having you stop by. Glad you enjoyed some peace and quiet while with us and yes those pesky sandflies have loved all the rain we have had. Sally & Wayne

We stayed here for one night on our recent trip to NZ. We wished we had time to stay longer! The grounds were so inviting and very well maintained, with well established trees and good sized sites. It is situated beside a river which provides an opportunity for exploration. In all, it creates a lovely ambiance for a quiet, relaxing camp. ( although it does apparently get busy during the summer holidays) The bathroom facilities are old but very clean and freshly painted in lovely bright colours. The showers are timed with a token allowing 5 mins which is ample time to have a wash.
The owners of this park are very friendly and welcoming and should be commended for providing such a lovely place to visit.

What a fabulous holiday park! Very friendly and helpful service, we found the hosts to be very easy going and we weren't presented with an extensive list of "rules and regulations" like we were at some other parks. Location is spot on, right by the river and set with mountains all around.
Powered sites were easy to access and quite spacious, travelling in Sept we found it very quiet and were given our choice of site which was great.
Amenities are basic but very clean and has everything you need. Great playground for kids and BBQ's to cook your meals.
Highly recommend if you are looking for the boutique and family owned style holiday park.

Just returned from another relaxing weekend at Ashley Gorge holiday park. All facilities are spotless and clean, showers by tokens - all campsites are of a good size with trees for shade, privacy and shelter. The river is just a short stroll away with good opportunities for walks, swimming and fishing. We have been here several times and will keep returning. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly and the small shop a bonus for ice creams.

Crap stay! Have to pay for WiFi, visits and to top that off the owners are horrible ! So rude! Never going back there! The prices are definitely not worth it and the river isn’t deep and is very cold! Worst stay of my life!

Hi Belle Firstly it's autumn so please forgive us if you found the river too cold and if you had bothered to look there are plenty of beautiful deep swimming holes including one right opposite the playground. In fact rating us on the temperature of the river is quite ridiculous & I am sure shows the readers the validity of your review. We will always grant a late checkout if not too busy but you never asked for one. Check out is 11am and although we reminded you of this at 12.45pm you were still on site supposedly not enjoying yourself until 6.30pm. Free wifi is certainly available but not to guests who should have checked out 6 hours earlier. Frankly we have never encountered such a disrespectful group.

Only 45 minutes from Christchurch Ashley Gorge holiday park gets you away from it all. Situated by the river and with numerous walking options. The owners are very welcoming and the holiday park has everything you need including onsite dumping station. Highly recommend.

Was really enjoying my stay at the cabins till the night my son daughter in law and grandchildren came to have a bbq with my daughter and me. We had just finished dinner and done a Easter egg hunt because I live in the north island and don't see my grandys much. We were all just having a good family time and the neighbors kiddies had come over to join in on the egg hunt when up comes the camp owner and she tells us that all visitors have to pay we were flabbergasted. We have never come across this in all our years of camping and we weren't even camping we were in the cabins. Beware people we got charged $10. for 6 people there was no sign in our cabin or at the gate and by the cabins we were not told this when we arrived we only saw a sign up by the camping area which we saw the next day. Think this is a very poor way to treat people .Apart from that it is a lovely area to visit but I and my family and friends will never stay again. Commerce commission you might want to look into this have asked around and visitor are welcome at most camps haven't seen one that asks visitors to pay.

Hi Jan As stated on our email correspondence & on the information you were given on check in we ask that all visitors to your site stop at the office on arrival to register that they are on site and yes in some cases we will charge for those visitors. You had 6 visitors using our facilities and our gas for your bbq, tell me who pays for this? Us? You chose to disregard the information you were given both before you arrived and again on arrival so yes you were charged for your guests. Sally

Love it here & used to camp here for years with the family as a kid. Still hate the sandflies especially as they love me even though I am covered in repellant. Sad to see the river changed so much but great it has lots of water unlike most south island rivers at the moment. Not things the camp has any control over obviously.
Friendly lady in the office. We have been touring all over the South Island & this is the most expensive camp by $11 for our 2 adults & 1 teenager (so 3 adults really). Plus you have to pay $1 for each 5-6 minute shower & they have signs up saying they have limited hot water!! Maybe need look at gas hot water? Campers seem to be paying twice for it I.e. once with tokens & once with the dearer fees.
Would love to return with our other two boys but one would also be an adult so cheaper for us to stay in a cheap motel almost than use our camper on a powered site.
Very clean and tidy older style facilities.

Hi Thank you for your review and for joining us over the festive season. Yes the river is certainly getting plenty of use at the moment & is clean & clear and over the years rivers change however the great swimming holes remain. Our charges for a powered site are $21 for adults and $9 for children which we feel are very competitive, but do understand having to pay the adult fee for your 16 year old will bump your nightly rate up. Our water is pumped from the river hence our wanting to conserve as much as we can. Our cabins are another affordable family choice for you. They sleep five and would cost $116 per night for all five members of your family plus you would have the added bonus of still being in a campground having the river access. Regards Sally

Highly recommend.
Long weekend away with a couple of other families.
Great location for kids with lots to do for all ages. Safe road for kids to bike around, couple of different age playgrounds, at least one great walking track, and of course the river which provided hours of fun...even when cold!
Cabins & camping ground were well maintained, and I loved the fact that so many trees had mature vegetation built into the layout.
There are 4 cabins, in one building which sleep 5 each. My back did suffer in the morning on the slats of the double bunk bed with thin mattress, but I still got a good nights sleep.
Shared access to showers, toilets and bbq were neat and tidy and did the job.
There are 4 sites next to the cabins which allow well behaved pets, which was a nice point of differnence with 1 friendly bulldog in attendence.
Campground is very well presented and definitely felt safe for the kids to wander and explore.
Stars at night were something that stood out as well as the clean country air.
Hosts were very hospitable.
Will definitely look to come back another time for longer with the tent.
