Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here for one night towards the end of a recent South Island road trip.

I phoned and made a booking a couple of days before we stayed, requesting a studio unit with a king bed, and ground floor access (I am not too steady on my feet and find it easier to have few or no stairs).

The gentleman on the phone offered a one bedroom studio, on the ground floor, so I confirmed the booking.

We arrived shortly after 3pm on the appointed day. The office was unmanned but there were very clear instructions to press the button beside the door. After a couple of moments the proprietor answered and said he would be with us very shortly. After only another few moments the gentleman (whose name escapes me) arrived and greeted us. He showed us to our room, and was very helpful in advising where the closest shops etc were. Very good service.

We were delighted with the unit. There is a large bedroom with a king sized bed, and a very large kitchen/dining room/lounge setup. There is a single bed in the lounge, as well as a couch and chair. There is a dining table and chairs. The kitchen is well appointed with a benchtop hob, a microwave and all the usual crockery/cutlery etc.

There is a bedside clock which is nice as I often wake in the night and I like to know what the time is. And a good heater in the lounge area, and an electric blanket on the king bed.

The complex looks to be only a year or two old. It is situated on SH1 just north of Christchurch so of course the road is very busy. But we couldn’t hear any traffic noise whatsoever in our unit. The windows are double glazed which will help with not just noise but also keeping the unit warm.

About 2-3km to the north just off SH1 is a New World, a couple of petrol stations, and a McDonald’s. It looks like they may be building more shops/food outlets but I may be wrong about this. There’s a couple of cafes and a bakery and a fish and chip shop probably about 1km from the motel, might be slightly closer.

The price is very good, we were really happy with our stay here. Highly recommended, if we are wanting to stay around Christchurch again we would definitely be back here.

This place is s great find for us. It was chosen for its location initially (on the route to Picton), but could be an alternative to staying in Christchurch city as a destination. It is spotlessly clean and tidy, great parking, inexpensive, well-equipped, and staff are friendly and helpful. Road noise is minimal, even though it's on a very busy highway. Very hard to fault.

We originally booked in for 2 nights, now we knew check in was before 8pm and we were running excessively late so rung ahead to see what the go would be expecting to be told nothing could be done. Lewis the awesome human you'll see he is, opened our room turned the heater on and left the key out for us. Arriving at 3am on a bloody chilly night and being greated by the warmth that was our apartment room was nothing short of heaven.
Our original 2 nights turned into another and then another and then another, without a worry Lewis rebooked us each one of those nights even though the complex was full and we were sure we'd be told exactly that.
Our room was clean spacious and completely comfortable. We were offered new amenities every day and a cleaner with a bright smile asked us if we wanted our room cleaned on each aswell.
I can't say enough good words about the running of this motel and it's staff.
Thank you Lewis and team for a wonderful stay, each one of you are amazing and I hope many good things come your way for your kindness, hospitality and genuine good nature.
Andy & Peanuts :)

Arrived at 1pm no one on reception and waited 8mins for someone to show up. In the room No Info folder/sheet for checkout time, or if room serviced daily, or how to work TV/sky or info on local shops/petrol station for supplies etc. Metal kettle inside covered in Lime, Calcium & Rust, request replacement told nothing avail had to use pot to boil water for hot drinks. Bathroom shower floor lino bubbly spongy under foot due to split in lino, black fixed wall showerhead clogged white with Lime & Calcium hence poor shower water pressure coming thru, ceiling vent clogged with dust, main light faulty, could not use & mirror light surround rusty. Lounge, heater vent clogged with dust, only artwork memorial picture of deceased NZ author, lounge chair springs/support strapping completely shot. Bedroom, bed ok, pillows hard.
Overall dated furniture and decor, needs some TLC & artwork. On the plus side bedding clean/fresh, carpet clean/fresh & kitchen area clean & well presented.
Unfortunately, when checked out & offered feedback on room being serviced without advance notice the reaction was defensive and a little hostile. Not sure why but being in the service industry myself I did not expect this reaction.
Overall poor experience would not recommend this motel.

Remarkably quiet given it’s on the main road - excellent sound proofing. Excellent value too - our bedroom and lounge was really big with everything we needed - and the shower was great. The people were really friendly.

We spent one night, breaking a journey from Wanaka to Nelson. We found the unit to be very spacious and comfortable. We needed a quiet night to get some much needed rest and got that, despite a howling gale outside. Good service and excellent value for money.

We stayed a night here, last week, and were pleasantly surprised by the amount of room we had. One bedroom with extra bed on lounge and a kitchen. We thought the price was excellent for what we got.
Owners are lovely and very helpful with dinner and breakfast venue options.
Would certainly return here.

Clean, modern, comfortable and double glazed so quiet. Really happy. Staff friendly and helpful. Staff were happy to put another bed in the room for us.
Good wifi.
Weirdly low kitchen benches.

Booked Online. Paid Online. Received Confirmation Email about Booking. Turned up at the end of a long day and was told 'SORRY - We're full?????

Then, UNBELIEVABLY, it was inferred that we were in the wrong...we were told "listen fellows, you should never book online the day before"

Asked about the Online Booking - Yes, it was received, but then they decided to cancel it???? Apparently they'd been 'booked out for days now" (Quote), and there must be something wrong with the aa.co.nz website. I've contacted aa.co.nz since - there is no problem with the website........

I understand mistakes can happen, but when someone chastises you with the words "You should never Book Online the day before".....well, that's just absolutely unbelievable in 2012.

Was expecting a fairly average place as the 1st night of our trip after a long day on the ferry and drive down from Picton but we were really pleasantly surprised. The owners are just lovely and had upgraded us to a 2 bedroom unit.
Its all very new and we couldn't ask for better. Everything was really decent quality and much better than other places we've stayed that charged alot more.
The room was really well sound proofed too (something you notice travelling with a baby) and although they were fully booked we couldn't hear anything at all from the other rooms.
Was a great start to our trip :)
