Absolutely Appalling Dining at Dunston Hall - 7.30 to 10.30 pm We took the opportunity to celebrate almost 23 years’ service of one of our colleagues leaving our Company at the Dunston Hall restaurant. I must say that we were appalled in so many ways and wished we had not bothered. We gathered in the bar and discovered that one of the half pint glass used had a disgusting greasy handle – so much so that the blue serviette actually stuck to it . We requested the glass to be changed, which was done by the barman but with an attitude and face that could cut ice. Crash, bang wallop, followed and a tray of glasses fell to the floor thereafter by another member of staff. One of the gent’s toilet was closed and the ladies reported that their toilets were disgusting and unclean. The list of shenanigans in the restaurant which followed was the worst part. The table was actually booked in the wrong name – even though care had been taken to ensure the correct details were telephoned through. The waitress was appointed and the orders taken promptly. But crash, bang wallop - another staff member drops a tray of glasses in the background. This must have happened at least two more times during the evening. The starters eventually arrived and some of the cutlery was unclean – these were changed. Now, we await a very long time for the main meals to arrive. So much so that we actually (and eventually) found the waitress and chased our food. At no time was any attempt made to use ones initiate and actually wait upon the guests. The plates were cold, the peas and mash was Luke warn, the gravy had a thin film over it, and some of the other food ordered was also cool in taste. No complaints were raised since we were very hungry by this time and frankly, after a long day at work, would have eaten a horse passing by! We can only but conclude that the kitchen was not coping at all. Deserts were ordered thereafter together with teas and coffees. The latter arrived – but NO DESERTS! The waitress was nowhere to be seen initially but happen to be passing by eventually. We approached her AGAIN for the second time. More apologies were extended and the deserts arrived followed by the explanation that ‘they ‘had lost the ticket. One of the deserts was actually inedible. We were pass caring by now since we had been in our seats for approaching 3.5 hours. Complete incompetence – we will not go to this venue again. The night was not worthy of the slight reduction in the costs that was offered to us.…
Had a meal in the brasserie restaurant and Charlotte was fantastic couldn't fault her she was absolutely lovely, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely one of the best!!! Chloe. R.
During a recent 3 night stay, my daughter and I were looked after by the fantastic Charlotte. Charlotte was faultless and nothing was too much trouble! Charlotte was lovely and coped extremely well with some difficult situations. A real gem! Martin R
Absolutely amazing!!! This is our second visit to Dunston hall, and we cannot recommend it enough! The hotel staff really cannot do enough for you, especially Clare on reception and William in the restaurant, as well as everyone else we met, most names unfortunately I can not recall (sorry). With Covid and restrictions it must be so difficult but our stay was seamless. We upgraded our room and had a lovely little patio. The rooms interior was so grand and perfect! While using the pool we did find it a tad too cool however that is a personal preference. The breakfast was amazing!! We love the fact you can go up and help yourself to what you want and get more of you wish. We ate in the restaurant one evening both our meals were delicious! Thank you everyone for making our stay so relaxing …. Just what we needed ☺️…
The building is fantastic looking and the staff tried to be helpful, but we were disappointed with the service at dinner, which fell below any acceptable standard, McDonalds would have been mortified. Having been asked if the children's starters and mains should come up together, one child was forgotten/missed until asked! , and after their main came up, the waiting staff had to be asked for the starter (garlic bread, not the hardest meal to prepare) coming up some time later. The when most of the adult meals arrived (all very nice), one didn't and when told a starter was brought up instead. As I say disappointing, which the poor waiter is likely to get it in the neck for, and where as some blame may be theirs, they were not the only ones
