There aren't a lot of options of where to stay on Union Island, so maybe that's why they feel they can charge so much, but for what we got it wasn't worth USD$80/night. There was cable TV, wifi (although this didn't work the 2nd day, only our first night), a decent shower and a cold fridge, but that is all pretty basic in what is expected in a hotel. Lambi's, a bar/restaurant next door, also has guest rooms and I would guess they are the same quality for half the price. Also beware of the mosquitoes; I recommend bringing your own coils to burn to keep them at bay.

The location is excellent; extremely central and open to the water, which is gorgeous. The receptionist was funny and friendly, and the woman tending bar also helped us by answering questions and making a mean rum punch.

Also, no credit cards accepted (pretty standard in this area) so ensure you have cash.

As a note to Union Island, note that nothing is open prior to 8am so if you like to rise early and eat something, get something small the day before.

Stayed one night at US$40/night (single) for a room with fan and hot shower. This is very basic place right in the middle of the small town that is ok; staff not especially helpful. Take the 20-30 minute hike up to the old fort ruins (3 cannons) on the hill overlooking Clifton Harbor. There are 2 guesthouses in Ashton village.

Was on my way back from Carriacou but had to stay a night in this hotel before I went back to my home in St. Vincent. I payed $120EC for a double beded room, it wasn't to bad for me only thing the shower heater wasn't working and air conditioner wasn't very useful, No television. I only met one Young on duty at the time who I believe is the receiptionist who was very helpful to me and my family. The hotel seems deserted to me thou. But overall it was much better than the other hotel next door known as Lambees.

Having previously spent time in Bequia and Mayreau we enjoyed Clifton on Union Island. The hotel is convenient to everything in town. The Family operating this property could not be more accomodating. The restaurant is great as well.We opted to spend a couple of nights in the guest apts. at Big Sand Beach. Again, we were not disappointed. This Beach was quiet and beautiful. A small restaurant was excellent nearby and offered all meals! We were very happy at both the Clifton Beach Hotel and their affiliated apartments!

I have stayed at this hotel in the past and experienced a room which leaked badly when it rained. This time I decided to give it another go but upon examining the rooms and discovering the prices I decided not to stay as the rooms were hideous and the price was high. After quite a bit of searching I found somewhere else to stay which was better, cleaner and cheaper.

I did, however, have breakfast but many of the items on the menu were not available. What was available was poor quality and expensive for what it was.

I visited Clifton several times and each time found this hotel to be deserted. No wonder !

My stay in Union Island was great in this hotel. They have Wi-Fi, Cable TV, fridge, Continental Breakfast included, laundry and it's very well located (near to beach and the airport). Also, you can pay with your credit card when you're checking in (it really helped me). The rate is also good according the service (75-100 US$). It's true that it's a small hotel, and they don't have a pool, but comparing prices and service it's great for this place, you can rest beside the sea and feel great. I'll come back again and stay there.

I stayed at the Clifton Beach Hotel for two night in February 2011. My family and I took the fast ferry over to Union Island from St. Vincent. Although we had no idea where the hotel was located, it was very easy to find since you could see the sign from the ferry dock. Upon arrival, the hostess was very friendly. We also met the proprietor right away, who was also more than accomodating. After staying at a similarily priced hotel in Beckway, I was very pleasantly surprised by Clifton Beach, (esp. after reading the other reviews). We had 3 rooms, all very spacious with A/C, minimum 2 beds and two of the rooms had TVs and fridges. There was a large wardrobe, dressing area and a good sized bathroom. The rooms were clean and the bed and pillows were comfortable enough...Actually, the only thing that kept me awake was the rain and wind, (even though this is supposed to be the dry season...). We happened to be there for Valentine's Day and had the buffet dinner. There was also live music, dancing, games and prizes. The dining room was full and everyone looked like they were having a great time. Drinks during the day are cheap but prices go up in the evening...Coming from Canada, it was still cheap, either way,
Great hotel, great value. If I return to Union Island, I will definitely stay there again!

After reading the reviews online I was extremely nervous at the idea of staying at this Hotel. But since we were travelling as a large group and needed somewhere affordable we decided to stay here. I am pleased to say it was amazing.

From the first day the staff acquinted us with the various attracts on the island. We were connect to the locals who provided us with a day tour to the neighbouring islands - Mayreau, Happy Island (you must go there), and Palm Island. All which were minutes away. I will agree the rooms are really simple but honestly the food and the staff truly made it an enjoyable experience.

At night, the dinner and music was fantastic. We sat on the jetty and really enjoyed the moonlight and the sound of the sea. Next door we were able to purchase great souvenirs.

I will definitely do it again, simple hotel but i was able to take advantage of the tourist attraction as well as the local areas.

We travelled through trip advisor prior to our trip to the Grenadines for a hotel on Union. The only option listed was the BigSands - which was closed for a refurb. So instead we contacted a hotel listed in the Hunters guide.

We arrived to find the hotel literally rotting away. The room did have aircon and clean sheets but the bathroom was a partition in the corner(not full floor to ceiling). The bed was a foam mattress about 2 inces thick and the pillow were of the chopped foam variety. I've stayed in some basic places in my time but this is the first time I have had to pull furniture in front of the door to secure myself.
We checked out (payed our 173EC) and moved... quickly!

The bar and restaurant are deserted and there are better options. Stay away and instead you could try
1. The anchorage - we ate there. Grumpy staff but a beautiful setting and we met folks who stayed there and said rooms were good and under 100 US.
2. Or we stayed in the Kings Landing hotel. It was 95US but did have a pool and very nice sea clean sea view rooms. (I'll write a separate review too)

Let me preface this by saying that you will not find cheap accomodation on Union island. Everything you see and eat all has to come by boat which comes at quite a cost to those who offer their goods and services on this island.
Now that your expectations have been readjusted this is accomodation is at the cheaper end of the spectrum for the island and you get what you pay for in local terms. With that said, what really makes this place great is the wonderful host Abigail. While we were here in the quiet season we were made to feel like family. We were well looked after the whole time and even had our trip to the Cays arranged at a great rate.
So if you are looking for pristine accomodation, do not come here. But if you are looking for some of the genuinely awesome Vincy hospitality then this is the place to come as Abigail is such a gem! We walked in as guests and walked away feeling like family!

We will return!
