Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This motel is well placed before the last leg driving to Auckland, or just after coming over the Bombay Hills driving south. Staff are friendly in this newly built motel. There's a good restaurant serving hearty food alongside.

We have stayed in a two bedroom , a one bedroom and a studio unit. Every time the room has been spotless. The rooms are very roomy with plenty of space. Some rooms have spa baths. They have a restaurant on the premises and countdown is just down the road (walk 5 mins). No, there isn't air conditioning but there is a ceiling fan and a wall heater which we have found sufficient each time we have stayed there, winter and summer. Plenty of parking which is perfect for the truck and trailer. Upstairs and downstairs rooms. Laundromat, liquor store, ice cream shops (x2) across the road.
Would recommend this place :)

I have stayed here many times both with Motorcycling New Zealand and private. Never once had problems with trucks in the truck park at stupid o'clock as one has posted. The various units I have stayed in have been both warm and very clean. The staff have been very good.
Meals in the restaurant are both plentiful and well priced again with great staff.
This motel is well placed for Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Waikato (Huntly and Hamilton) and to Hampton Downs.

Pokeno Motel is just simply brilliant! Such friendly service, rooms are first class, beds so comfortable and love the massive shower water pressure! Parking for our pickup and trailer was just brilliant, this is our go to spot for the drags at Meremere...supermarket a short walk, everything you need close by without the large Auckland price tag, highly rate this place! Cheers Craig & Heather.

If you love the smell of cow dung and sheep pis5 you’ll love it here, with stock trucks arriving at all hours crashing and banging through the dust bowl gravel pit that serves as truck parking. Then leaving at stupid o’clock waking you again.
Awful place and to think its in a residential street...
Fell sorry for the residents near by

I've always wondered why this motel is where it is - on a road now rarely used by through traffic unless you are buying an ice-cream at the best ice-cream shop in Auckland - but I digress. We decided to stay here on the way back south and what a great choice. A warm welcome from Greg who managed to fit us in to an almost full motel (that's why it is here) and a spotlessly clean room awaited us. The perfect design and layout for his clientele was noted as were the amenities provided. The bed was "oh so" comfortable and they do evening meals to order from a limited but adequate menu. The only negative, if there had to be one, was the not so good television set and channel selection. Something to do with the changeover from analogue to digital we were told. But that happened a long time ago now and a motel this good should have had this sorted by now.
Otherwise, a great place to stay and we will return.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Pokeno Motel and both times we have had good service and they were very accomodating with the parking of my horse float. Letting us have three parks.

The room was tidy & clean with 2 single beds for the girls to sleep in and a bed in the lounge.

The rate was very reasonable for the four of us to stay there, with breakfast given to use the night before as the following day was xmas day. This was delivered to the room by our hosts.

The only disappointment was the size of the tv for the room it was very small and if you have poor eyesight would find it hard to watch. The tv should have been the same size as the mirror.

We were travelling from Paihia to Tauranga and stayed at the Pokeno Motel on the way through. Pokeno is a very quiet place with not much there, but this motel was one of the best for the price we stayed at on the North Island. The hosts were lovely and the room was very spacious and well set out, with a very comfortable bed, excellent cooking facilities and the added bonus of a lovely spa. If you want an evening meal, you need to order it in advance. We both ordered a mixed grill and it was an ENORMOUS serve and absolutely delicious. Very good value and we would definitely stay there again if we were passing through.

We stayed at the Pokeno Motel for two nights. The first was to stay near our dog while he settled into quarantine nearby, then we liked it so much we stayed there again when we picked him up from quarantine. The rooms are immaculately clean. Nice and bright during the day and super quiet at night. The hosts are awesome people! So friendly and welcoming. The dinners are all homemade and they're great!
We'll stay there every time that we're in the area!

My boyfriend booked a room at the Pokeno Motel recently for us to stay on our way down the country.
Motel was very noisy with big trucks arriving to the Motel at all hours, and then other truck drivers leaving at all hours, - ....more truck noise !
No Air Conditioning (hot or cold) either in the rooms, just basic wall heaters that took ages to heat up (....not good on a chilly night !)
Not worth the $140.00 they charge per night
