we stayed for a few nights while in the New Plymouth area. The Lodge offers excellent rooms with breakfast. Fruit, cereal, toast and jams, orange juice, tea or coffee.
Evening meals can be booked by arrangement.
The Lodge is in its own grounds surrounded by trees, there is lots of bird life including kereru, Tui , Tomtit
Covid 19 is now at Level 1 so most rules do not apply

+1
Recently whilst attending a wedding near this location we had the pleasure of staying three nights at this lodge. We were two of a large group of family and friends staying at the lodge and our host was on her own which would be very daunting but not for Sally who was very accomadating and made our stay memorable. The rooms were tastefully decorated and comfortable with ensuite bathrooms, breakfast available, tea and coffee facilities not to mention a fully stocked bar, who could want more. Patuha Lodge is situated amongst lush bushland which has been in the owners family for three generations. There are many bush walks around the lodge and town is about a 25 mins drive away. If you want peace and tranquility this is the place for you and Sally is the hostess with the mostest. Thank you we really enjoyed ourselves.

If you're looking for a beautiful spot nestled in the shadow of Mt. Taranaki, this is it. The drive in is on a scenic private road wandering through the working farm that it is part of. I loved the drive as you feel as though you're entering another world, which you are. The sleeping accommodations are beautifully decorated with every comfort. The facility is set up for group events and would be perfect for weddings, retreats, romantic weekends, etc. The host, Sally, is wonderful, no task too large for her. I was visiting family in the area so did not have the opportunity to enjoy one of Sally's meals, which I understand are quite special. There are walking paths on the property leading through the bush and down to the river. I highly recommend Patuha Lodge.

The location is wonderful, the host very friendly, but the place is in desperate need of renovation. The breakfast was a huge disappointment: no juice, no eggs, no cheese or ham...
Coming back after a long day and then seeing that the bed isn't made (which is fine) and no replacement of towels was done. Paying NZD 185 per night is a joke

After flying in by helicopter we were met by a wonderful hostess and taken to the lodge, just a few hundred metres away. Rooms were comfortable (although dated ) and clean. Enjoyed a lovely 3 course dinner and lots of drinks. Up next morning to a cooked breakfast. Was great sitting out in the sun, very quiet. Dining room was very nice and an entertainement room with pool table etc helped the night pass. Tea and coffee making facilities were in the corridor, but handy to all rooms. Some rooms did have their own facilities. Plenty of bush walks to undertake (well signposted). A very nice experience. A great place to relax. Thanks to a very cheerful and helpful hostess.

This lodge may be a great place to stay if you want a quiet get away with meals provided but if you are looking for a self contained base near Mt. Egmont - go elsewhere. It is very isolated and is a long way from the Mt Egmont visitor centres and any shopping facilities.
The driveway up to the lodge is 2kms. of rough gravel, rocks and fine volcanic dust that clings to the car, which necessitated us to take our hire car through a car-wash after our stay thus adding $18 to the accommodation costs.
We stayed 3 nights in their self contained unit and brought with us 3 days supply of food. The unit itself is very small and the minuscule bar fridge in the room was turned to the warmest setting when we arrived. Even after we had adjusted it to cold, it wasn't able to cool the few items we had managed to squeeze into it. Luckily we had a small esky with us but our small supply of ice soon melted.
The BBQ that we had been told we could use had no gas bottle attached and when we lifted the cover it was rusty and dirty and had evidently not been used for a very long time.
This place clearly isn't really geared for those wishing totally, self contained accommodation. Our advise is to find a self contained unit closer to Mt Egmont Village or Stratford. We wish we had.

Very obliging owner, Sally, who was always willing to help and direct. Her dinner of Tarragon Chicken and her Breakfasts very delicious. Away from the Hurly Burley and traffic of New Plymouth.
The gravel road is only is 2kms and you feel away from it all

This is basically a small, very beautiful hotel built right up in the bush, on the slopes of Mount Egmont (Taranaki), at the back of a farm. We stayed overnight after a long day's drive north from Wellington, and from Wanganui onwards kept stopping to take photos of the amazingly large and isolated cone of Mount Egmont. Now, satnavs look at roads from above, and decide on a route based on directness and apparent ease. They don't see 'up' and 'down' or even 'bloody scarily small and twisty, through dense bush'. So our satnav took us on the most direct route she could see, zig-zagging across the spider's web of small roads around the mountain. And up over the shoulder of the mountain. It would've been far easier and quicker to simply stick to the Surfer's Highway AROUND the base of the mountain, then head inland at the large clear signs for Patuha Lodge, but you know satnavs.... anyway, we found the place. After a further mile of uphill, twisty driving on gravel, we emerged into a clearing and there was this lovely, stylish, modern lodge. We were the only guests that night, but were treated with impeccable friendliness and courtesy. A lovely dinner, in a dining room with huge windows looking straight out onto native rainforest, and the stars! My goodness, that was a good night's sleep. The rooms are quite luxurious, each with its patio door opening onto the terrace at the back of the Lodge, and all fittings are of a high standard and very well-maintained. Breakfast was delicious - eggs from local chooks, wonderful bacon from their own pigs - and our very friendly hostess gave us simple directions that had us down on the highway within minutes. New Plymouth is about half an hour's drive to the east.
This would be a perfect place for a group holiday, retreat or conference - all the facilities are there, but apart from a couple of signposted bush walks, nobody would be slipping away! Our hostess said they do host a lot of groups for various purposes, and I can see why.

We were the only 2 staying at the lodge and our hosts were standing in for the owners, but we had a really lovely time, the room was excellent, evening meals and breakfasts were really enjoyable and the peace and quiet welcome. It was great to feel that the lodge was tucked away miles from civilization. There were great walks on the grounds and views were fantastic.
