The thousand acre Pitchford Estate is a dairy, sheep and arable farm with extensive woodland located six miles south of Shrewsbury in one of England's most rural counties, Shropshire. The Estate is home to Windy Mundy Farm, Stockbatch Granary and Tree House Barn, three spacious barn conversions available as holiday accommodation for groups of up to 16, 14 and 4 respectively. With stunning interiors and an idyllic location, these properties offer a country escape that we hope that you'll love as much as we do

We were a large family group of various ages, gathered to celebrate a birthday and just being together after the pandemic. It was a perfect, picturesque location where we felt private and able to relax in peaceful, comfortable surroundings. Windy Mundy Farm is spacious and the central lounge area has a wonderful log fire centre piece. It was warm during our visit but we did try it and I imagine in colder months would be so cosy. It’s enclosed, has a well stocked kitchen and bbq facility and feels equally light, airy but cosy. We found it clean with beautiful views of surrrounding farmland and hills. Spotting the hares and birds everywhere was lovely. Overall is was a memorable stay - we requested cot and highchair and the latter was provided but they forgot the former. This wasn’t an issue as we brought a travel cot. They can’t usually do earlier check in but as it was a birthday the Manager kindly allowed us to go earlier to surprise my son. I would highly recommend this property and location for large family or friends gatherings. Yes there were a few black beetles but it’s a farm, it didn’t bother us. The showers weren’t powerful but that’s the only little thing and didn’t impact our stay at all. Maybe one central toilet/bathroom would be an improvement. The couches are a bit tired but again that didn’t detract at all from our stay. Would’ve liked more than a weekend to explore all the beautiful areas nearby - there’s lots to see and do. Overall a very relaxing, memorable stay. Recommended

We stayed in Tree House Barn which has two bedrooms and we loved it (because of the "open-door" nature of the en-suites, we used one as a bedroom and one as a bathroom!). Access was a bit hairy but we made it in and out in a fairly low-slung coupe so if you drive carefully it's fine (if you don't have a 4x4, take the entrance by the post box about half a mile on from the main Pitchford Church entrance!). Beautifully quiet and in a great location for walks in the Shropshire Hills or a trip to Shrewsbury. The contact (Karen) was brilliant and everything went very smoothly and she was there on WjhatsApp if you had any questions.
The Pitchford Estate itself is amazing. You can walk around it (although we found a few "private" or "no access" signs which limited us a bit). When driving there from Ludlow direction, I'd suggest going via Longnor as the lanes are wider rather than the way Sat Nav takes you! But that said, there is so little traffic it hardly matters.
There aren't many local pubs but if you are happy to travel 20 minutes + there is plenty of choice. The WiFi in the property was very good although phone signal poor (O2).
If you want to get away from it, it's hard to imagine a better location tbh, especially if you have dogs and like walking.

We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful property and would thoroughly recommend it to others.
The accommodation is excellent, but what makes this property unique is its location. We loved sitting out in the garden and hearing nothing but the birds.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We stayed at the Stockbatch Granary for a big family birthday celebration and had a reasonably good holiday. Overall the house had a good layout that suited us as a family. The rooms are laid out like this: Entrance hall has the kitchen to the left and dining room to the right. Staircase goes straight up where you will find the big master suite and an en-suite twin. Through the kitchen and then the living room and barn is another set of bedrooms. The king with the exposed beams is up a set of stairs and then along the corridor are the 2 twins, double and at a nice king room at the end of the corridor. All these room had access to the garden and you could cut straight across the lawn to get to the living room. Good points: Great for a big family with lots of entertaining options. The barn is huge and proved a hit for all ages. Dining room was nice and the caterers we booked via the estate were wonderful.
Bad Points: The whole place needs updating. Especially the bathroom facilities. Everything felt a bit shoddy and not very luxurious. We paid a premium price as it was a large property and school holidays, so honestly expected a bit more. Taps were broken, toilet seats falling off, the exposed toilets in 2 of the nicest rooms is just weird. The room with the exposed beams doesn’t have a shower. From a cleanliness perspective we had mixed feelings. Yes the rooms were clean with nice clean bedding, but the property overall haven’t had a deep clean in years. The fan over the kitchen was absolutely caked in dusty grease and the oven was tatty and also needed a deep clean. Having picked this place for the family I was a bit embarrassed and definitely wouldn’t return.
I understand that the money raised is probably going towards restoring the beautiful Pitchford Hall (which is nearby, but not on the same grounds), but not an excuse to rent the place out with 30 year old bathrooms. Also - given that the place is in the middle of nowhere, you would think at least it would be private, but you have neighbours with the place next door being rented out too (I think on a more permanent basis)
The garden is another missed opportunity - 3 ancient rickety old benches and an old table! Actually couldn’t believe they didn’t provide you with a nice outside dining area.
The road leading up to the property is also poorly maintained and I wouldn’t have fancied anyone’s chances in a small car after heavy rainfall.

Lovely location, ideal for walks and visiting Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and Telford attractions.
The farm house was tired and not very clean. You notice this more when you have small children.
The shower pressure in all rooms was a trickle which was not good.
Living room furniture was at the end of its life rendering it almost impossible to sit on if you are not a child.
Beautiful views and building but desperately needs some money spending on it.

Pros: beautiful views, loads of space for everyone, lovely fire & well equipped kitchen.
Cons: reason we wouldn't return & biggest drawback is the single farm track which is only access to the house. It has massive, deep potholes which you can't avoid. If you have a 4x4 & drive slowly you'll be fine, anything smaller or with low wheel base you risk damage to vehicle. Showers not powerful. Sofas tired & need a deep clean.

We stayed at Windy Mundy December 14 there was 16 of us and it was absolutly brilliant. The house is absolutly stunning in itself so much so that we hardly left for 4 days. It was well equiped with everything you needed .. Pots pans, cutlery etc.. There was a travel cot and even a moses basket for a baby! The house is very big and housed us all really well so we wernt treading on each others toes.. A lovely big kitchen table and also a great big table to eat meals at. The beds and pillows were SO comfy all rooms had a en suite. The log burning fire was just perfect to heat up the place, and make it so cosy.. yeh we did buy some extra wood but it only cost about £10 extra but we expected that, and we had it burning alot of the time for that little ammount too! We also used the sauna 3 out of the 4 days.. It was a great little extra and helped for some extra relaxation! The road leading up to it is pretty bumpy but nothing major its fine to acess with a normal car. We ordered tesco online for food delivered to the barn and he got there no problems! We did hire the tree house for a relative to stay in and were under the impression it was quite close by but it was about 10 minutes in the car so that was a shame as we thought you could walk to it. All in all it was a great stay, a beautiful place and I would reccomend it to anyone!

I have stayed at Windy Mundy several times now and absolutely love it. It is set in some of the most beautiful countryside and the views across Shropshire are truly wonderful. The house layout works really well for large parties (especially the grass forecourt where children can play in full sight of the adults) and we loved dining en masse and playing games in the incredible sitting room in the converted barn that boasts a 10 meter plus hanging fire place and great gallery.
During our trips there we have visited some wonderful local pubs and there is a good riding school nearby.
I cannot recommend this place enough especially if you are booking a large family gathering or a weekend away with a number of friends and their families. To top it all you have to love a place with a wood fire sauna!!

This was a lovely place set out of the way in Shrewsbury. We had issues with the heating which were sorted within the hour by the owner (who is only a short drive away). The kitchen is fully stocked for cooking with almost every utensil you could ever want. There was loads of space and the bedrooms are all spread out so you don't feel like you're walking over each other at all. The fireplace was great to have and made it all nice and cozy and there was some wood provided. This was a great place to get away to an 'out of the way' place where we could go for nice walks and enjoy the countryside. I would highly recommend this for any large group no matter the purpose of your trip!
