The Crown is a 17th Century Coaching Inn on the thriving independent high street of Uppingham serving fantastic fresh, seasonal food along with a great range of real ales and premium drinks, and local produce. The Inn dates back to 1739, when two separate dwellings were altered to make the one building as you see today, although parts of the original dwellings date back to pre 1530. Under new business ownership in 2020, the pub and rooms have undergone an extensive and sympathetic renovation bringing an updated and relaxed atmosphere where the focus is on a warm welcome and quality experience for all. This welcome extends to our beloved canine friends who are welcome in the pub area at all times and can be accommodated with prior agreement in the bedroom. Uppingham boasts a thriving independent high street where you can while away the hours browsing its many boutiques, antique shops and galleries. Well placed to explore the surrounding areas you will find much to do whether it be a walk in the beautiful countryside a historic trip to Rockingham Castle and Burghley House, or a spot of shopping in the beautiful towns of Stamford and Oakham. If you are looking for something more adventurous Rutland Water is on your doorstep for cycle hire, sailing and other activities both on and off the water. Rutland may be the smallest in England but true to its motto 'multum in parvo' there really is much in little.

We enjoyed our two night stay here, the pub/hotel seemed to have been recently refurbished with the rooms spotless. We were really taken back with the quality of the bed linen and the towels. We were made most welcomed with all the staff very friendly and helpful. And the food was very well cooked also. If I had any gripe, it would be that the front door could do with a new easy close mechanism, as the door can be heard closing all the time in the room above. Other than that, an excellent place to stay.

We visited for an overnight stay in Uppingham. On arrival we were shown to our room but no information was given about booking a table for an evening meal so we were not able to eat there as they were fully booked when we asked. No information was given regarding breakfast times. The communication was very poor. No information in the room either which is unusual. The room was spotlessly clean and the shower was excellent. The TV in the room was small and difficult to see. Perhaps it would be better on the wall. All in all, the room was lovely and just what we needed for an overnight stay. Breakfast was also good but again, no communication about having to make your own toast. We didn't even know there was a toaster and bread for customers to use until we saw someone else using it.

We walked out of The Crown because we were not sure it did food, let alone vegan! No signs or menus outside and only one person at that time serving in what looked like just a pub. We came back for just a drink as nowhere in the town late lunch time was serving food. Surprise food wad on. The menu great and my vegan partner could order most thing that excluded meat with ease. Even pizza/flatbread, they had vegan cheese. We both had pizza and two portions of their popcorn cauliflower. Service top draw and very friendly. They need to make it clearer by posting outside a menu and given their flexibility in the kitchen a big play on vegan and vegetarian options. Absolutely understated and under publicized.

Stayed here in room 4 , this pub has been refurbed so , remember that when you read some of the older reviews ! Room decent and spotless, couple of small points needed attention but we were the first people to stay in that room .. had a great chat to Laura the owner who has done a fantastic job making this place the business that it deserves to be. Food excellent , breakast superb. Look forward to staying again Nic & Karen

First meal out for months and months and so glad we came here. Food was so so good. And I'm fussy! And gluten free... All fresh, delicious, interesting, beautifully presented and fantastic value. Staff could not have been more welcoming and warm and the place has been so attractively refurbished, feels spacious, clean and stylish, a far cry from it's old rep. Looking forward to returning.
