The motel is extremely dated, reception sorry that's no reception unattended most of the time. The bathrooms are just awful. Just don't stay here period. There is a lovely motel just before you get into the little township. Compensation this beautiful seaside community has plenty to offer Maori history, hot springs at the ocean beach peace and quiet. Take a early morning leisurely walk and enjoy the sun rising in the morning. Shame no early morning open cafes, latte would be great.

Never seen such a mess and dirty accommodation in our 3 month trip in NZ. Poorly equipped, plenty of dust, broken table, moisture everywhere. Location and bed are excellent but not enough to value the price. Maybe we were unlucky, but I don't think so.

We rented the holiday home above the Kawhia Motel. It is the owner/managers private residence which he rents out. Unfortunately he forgot to clean out the fridge which was full of his food (and old expired milk !!). We were 2 families, totally 8. Plenty of room for all of us, comfortable and clean beds, and friendly welcoming cleaner who made us feel welcome, and was only a phone call away. Free Wifi was a plus however BBQ provided had not been cleaned for sometime, but the free use of kayaks was a bonus. Kawhia Motel is in a great location central to everything although needs a thorough clean and renovation. Great, relaxing week, Kawhia itself is an amazing spot.

This motel is definitely not worth the price. On our arrival mid-afternoon there was no one at reception. There was a telephone with a number to call. I called the number only to be told the lady was not available currently. Instead her partner and teenage son eventually came to check us in. They had no idea how any of the processes worked. They didn't know whether we had a reservation or what room we had booked. We paid for a room with an ocean view but weren't given one. We were also asked to go pay at the general store down the street which added extra hassle. The room itself was very spacious but in need of some updating. Very unusually for a motel in NZ they didn't even supply toiletries (despite the booking site stating they do). There was also no hairdryer available when
