Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The final stop on our cycle trail journey and what a goodie it was.

From the outside the cottages which are connected, did not look amazing but they turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. I guess we were fortunate that the smaller cottage was not occupied that night so we had complete use of the dining room and the casual seating on the veranda.
Our bedroom and ensuite was full of character but also very functional-a lovely shower in the en-suite and a very comfortable bed.
Sarah, the owner, was extremely friendly and helpful and because of the lack of eating places in Hyde, she offers a menu which has to be pre-booked/selected. We chose the BBQ option with my wife having the salmon steak and me the beef steak. There was a salad already made in the fridge and at the allotted evening time, she returned with a bowl of steaming hot new potatoes and sweet corn.
There is a good BBQ unit on the veranda which we used to cook the fish & meat and the whole meal was delicious. There were enough potatoes over which we used next morning for breakfast fried together with the fresh eggs also supplied
All in all, a great cottage in lovely surrounding, great service and great food.
We want to do the Rail Trip again in a year or two and have decided that we'll stay here for at least a couple of nights so that we can better explore the area.

After a long day on the Otago Rail Trail (wonderfully organised by Shebikeshebikes) we arrived to a warm, very clean and spacious lodge with a plate of lamingtons to welcome us. We had pre ordered a meal of lamb shanks which were simmering away in a crockpot. Later on Sarah arrived with a large dish of hot potatoes and bread rolls to accompany the lamb. The meal was delicious.
Hyde Lodge was the perfect place to stay for our last night on the trail.

We booked both the lodge (which is actually a reasonably modern farm house) and the Taieri room (in the adjacent building). The spaces were very clean and very comfortable. We booked the BBQ packs with Sarah for dinner, which was really substantial and very tasty. The beds were comfortable. The use of the washing machine was also really appreciated! This place is ideal for family groups. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Good sized rooms with a shared bathroom and large common areas, this place was very comfortable.
Fairly basic style, with no feel of the area or the rail Trail though all we needed for a stopover.
The host provided a nice slow cooked lamb shank meal, though at $29.50 for a self service, meal, it seemed a little steep.

We arrived at the cottages after a day of cycling to be met with our cosy cottage accommodation and the inviting aroma from our lamb shank dinner gently simmering in the slow cooker with a delicious smoked salmon salad ,lemon tart and breakfast supplies all provided in the kitchen area. After a hot shower, our welcoming host Sarah delivered steamed potatoes to accompany our meal and was happy to spend time chatting. Lovely setting with rabbits bobbing in the adjoining paddock.

Outstanding place to stay for our first night on the rail trail.
Sarah was a great host and our meals were very good and filling.
Sarah is very knowledgeable of the area and it was great listening to her mention things to look out for on the trail. Our accommodation was very clean and tidy. We definitely recommend staying here.

Comfortable overnight stay on Otago Rail Trail, very clean and well presented.
Evening meal provided was delicious, loved the salmon steaks, really nice generous salad, hot potatoes and sweetcorn a bonus.
Breakfast was adequate, but would have benefited from some yogurt and fruit choices.
Nice comfy sofa's to relax in, overall a nice relaxing stay.

We have just ridden the central Otago rail trail. My husband came down with Covid the day before we arrived here. Not only did Sarah have the heater on, our ordered dinner in the fridge but she then reappeared with more food and enough extras for us to make a picnic lunch the next day. She then also unlocked another room for me so I didn’t have to sleep on the sofa. The lodge itself was gorgeous. Furnished tastefully and warm and inviting. You could not ask for anything more.

Sarah the host was super friendly and made us a beautiful dinner. The house was so comfortable and we had everything we needed, she has thought of everything. The place was super clean and was one of the best places to stay as a family, no noise just birds to listen to. Great outdoor area for the bbq

Arrived at the lodge after a very windy ride on the rail trail. We had the lodge all to ourselves. It was amazing, clean and lamingtons were a bonus. We cooked our own meal on the BBQ and Sarah turned up with yummy potatoes and corn on the cob. What a great way to spend our last night on the trail. Thanks Sarah
