This package was the complete luxury stay. A glass of bubbles and excellent platter on arrival, the form filling could be completed in your suite at your leisure. The suite was spacious, light and a perfect mix of traditional and modern. The five course dinner menu was innovative, flavourful and artfully presented, the breakfast options excellent. The historic building was lovingly maintained as were the grounds and gardens. Attention to detail was obvious everywhere; the homemade treats to accompany the tea and coffee in the room, the special touches in the evening turn down service, the professional and warm staff. The people who own, manage and work here obviously take great pride in the Mangapapa Hotel, it shows and is appreciated.

A thoroughly enjoyable few days where all staff worked hard to make our stay feel something special. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Serviced twice daily to a high standard. Pool, Sauna and Spa area similarly spotless. Very generous breakfast included and 3 course set menu dinner with matching wines excellent value. Cycle way on Napier Rd makes for easy access to neighbouring Havelock North, Clive, numerous wineries and cycle trails. Sure to return.

The Mangapapa Hotel had been recommended to us by our golf travel agent. To be honest I wasn’t sure as we pulled up. That was a mistake! From the moment we were greeted and taken care of at the door, we felt welcome and special.

We had dinner at the hotel and decided on the 3 course meal. It was one of the best meals we have ever had. From the lamb to the sorbet to the fish elegantly prepare it was delicious. I had asked if it was possible for something chocolate for dessert the day before. Not only did we have a delicious chocolate dessert but they included an apple trim and ice cream to accessorize.

It is a special place and one that we will treasure.

We attended a Jazz lunch set meal at the Mangapapa Hotel during the Napier Art Deco Festival recently on Thursday 20th February.
It was one of the most disappointing events we have been to. There was light non jazz music being played by a piano and guitar on arrival, this quickly moved to another room to that which we were dining where we could not hear it, and finished about half way through the meal.
Meal service was unprofessional at best, all the dishes varied in size, layout, different plates and one of our party of 4 was missed out on the desert and was eventually served ice cream that was already melting on a slate! Do we not have coffees at the hotel; they were not served to us?
This is not an event that I can recommend is attended, though the food was reasonable, hence 2 star and not 1

Dear Mitchell, Thank you for attending the Art Deco event and taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We are disappointed that we were unable to live up to your expectations for the event. The lunch included bubbles upon arrival and a three course lunch with wine pairing, however any coffee purchases were additional. Next time we will ensure this is communicated better to attendees. Our customers and service are always our top priority and we welcome the opportunity to learn from our mistakes. We really do hope you’ll come back so we can show you why we are a five star property. Best Wishes, The Mangapapa Team

Can’t beat the location, the vista, the rooms and the history but we were very disappointed with the experience and underwhelming service for the rating and cost of this landmark hotel. On the night we stayed there were only 2 other couples and the place was very quiet and it appeared short staffed; which was a common issue during our trip to NZ. Whilst the following might seem minor these are things you expect when your paying nearly $700 for fundamentally a B&B service. First impressions are very important and the lack of detail was evident and something you’d think would be a given especially if the hotel management was critiquing itself. A couple of examples are the ground keeping standards esp around first impressions at the entrance, the pool (full of leaves with umbrella floating in it) the spa pool (used towels , slippers left lying around) and the limited menu choices. The quality of food (again for the price) was disappointing e.g. at b’fast continental choices were already on your table & the cooked choices were very limited, of average quality and not in keeping with a top end hotel. What was meant to be one of the highlights of our trip was unfortunately average at best.

Hello Happiness5243808788. Thank you for your candid review of your stay with us. We apologise for our property not meeting your expectations. We let ourselves down with the overall presentation of the Spa, Pool and grounds. Our team has taken on board your comments and we have implemented some changes to remedy these matters. We appreciate your feedback on the breakfast and we are amending our breakfast presentation. Rest assured we do have a skilled and competent team and I am very sorry that we dropped the ball. Hopefully on your next trip to the Bay you will give us an opportunity to show the changes we have made. Many thanks The Managapapa team

In February 2021 a friend's husband arranged a birthday lunch and spa for her and 5 friends. For $105 each, lunch consisted of 2 slices of french bread, one with some slivers of beef and the other with some sort of chicken salad, and small pile of lettuce greens, followed by a very small dessert, accompanied by a 'complimentary' glass of wine - much smaller than the glasses we then paid for. The 'spa' consisted of an indoor spa pool and outdoor swimming pool. That was it. We paid individually and when it came to my turn, the man at the desk had already charged my pinot gris ($12) to someone who had actually had a Mangapapa red ($19) He refused to fix his error and I was forced to pay the higher price. I hadn't met the other woman before that day so didn't feel able to tell her she owed me $7, and it shouldn't have been put onto me to do so. It was his mistake, not mine and it left a very bad taste in my mouth on top of the miserable 'lunch' we'd been served. The food was a set menu so one of the group who is vegetarian had virtually nothing to eat except salad. For $105.00.
I have made 2 attempts to get this sorted out with Mangapapa. In April I was told the Manager would call me back. Nobody called at all. In June I spoke to Jay, who said she was the Manager and would get back to me. I am still waiting and decided to place this review as a caution to others.

Dear W9529YRsandyr, Firstly we would like to wholeheartedly apologise that your Mangapapa experience has got to the point you feel the need to write this feedback. We take all constructive feedback seriously and we have escalated your comments to the owners and senior management team. We hope to rectify this situation as a team. To clarify, our spa facilities as advertised and booked include our spa, sauna, gym, seasonal swimming pool, tennis court use and garden games. With regards to the spa lunch it is offered as a two course set lunch and booked as such for the group. We can absolutely cater for dietary requirements as long as we know in advance of the booking. Our Chef has taken your feedback for further consideration with the kitchen team. Again we apologise that we did not meet your expectations and we are as disappointed as you to read your feedback. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Kind regards The Mangapapa Hotel

We enjoyed a beautiful mid winter couples getaway including hotel stay, 5 course degustation dinner and breakfast (continental buffet plus a la carte). Everything about our stay was exceptional. The service was amazing..... all the staff were professional, attentive and lovely to talk to. In particular Jake who showed us around and settled us in and Thomas who served dinner. Both delightful.
The food was sensational. Every single thing we were served was mouth-watering. Such a high standard. What an amazing chef.
The room was gorgeous and the personal touches were appreciated. I felt in terms of value for money the special was outstanding. Five star luxury. What a treat.

We spent a couple of nights here just before Christmas 2020 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We dinned in one night having the 5 course Chefs dinner. It was actually 9 courses including the bread, the sorbet and the other bits and pieces. Each course was excellent but there was really too much food and I couldn't eat the last one - not to worry though my husband ate mine as well as his. There was a wine tasting to start and, this is a suggestion not a criticism, the wine may have been better matched to the food rather than served beforehand, especially if you had already had a drink in the bar before dinner.

The rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable and the breakfast which was included in the tariff was good (better the second day than the first) but the best thing about the place was the staff who were exceptional in their efforts - there were more staff than guests which is always a bit of a worry.

It is not the cheapest place to stay nor is it near anything touristy but if you are looking for quiet and old world elegance it is perfect and we will happily go back.

We were not looking forward to Xmas 2020 due to Covid restrictions preventing our overseas based children and grandchildren from visiting us. However our experience at the Mangapapa from the outset was an absolute pleasure. All the staff are truly professional, friendly and attentive. Our accommodation was in pristine condition and very comfortable and well attended with 2 service visits per day. We loved the turn down service with the handmade sweets and the meals we enjoyed in the restaurant were truly memorable and amazing. Our duty Manager Tomas is passionate about his work and the hotel and really went out of his way to ensure our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. It is impossible to say anything negative about our stay at Mangapapa as it both met and exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend a visit to Mangapapa to experience impeccable customer service on all fronts and we look forward to returning there again ourselves

From the exterior approach up the grand drive to the premises, it's stunning. The grounds are superb and the lawns cut to perfection.

The wonderful premises are immaculate and the welcome staff absolutely perfect.

Drinks pre-dinner served by Olaf were a treat and his perfect introduction could not have been bettered.
Our dinner cooked by a wonderful Chef was a delight and very much enjoyed. The dining room warm and welcoming also.
Our suite was also completely perfect and the spoiled treatment by all staff much appreciated.
Breakfast like all meals was wonderful served by the best staff you could ever imagine.
All in all a totally perfect weekend in a totally perfect location in absolute luxury. There's nothing better than Mangapapa in our opinion and you'll love it.
