Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here for 3 nights for my brother-in-law's wedding just up the road at Craggy Range. I've travelled all over NZ and I have to say that Havelock / Hawke's Bay is one of my favourite destinations, so if you're going then great!

The apartments (a complex of just 4) are very well located near the centre of Havelock, probably about 10 min's walk from the nearest bars and restaurants - but given Havelock is so small that means you're actually only 10 mins from all of Havelock!

Each apartment is a different shape and layout, with different amenities. My Kiwi family occupied 3 of the 4 apartments so we got to see what they had to offer....and the differences were quite surprising.

Our apartment had a kitchenette/lounge/diner, bathroom and 2 double bedrooms. Another one had a kitchen/diner and a huge living room, the other was the same rooms as ours but a bit smaller. Each one had a garden that backed out onto the tennis court (kit available to use free of charge) and the swimming pool (chilly but perfectly functional).

The Good Bits:

Beds were Queen size, very comfortable, nice and clean
Bathroom was HUGE, with double sink and a corner bath that could have accommodated the All Blacks. Also a nice heated floor (which we couldn't turn off for love nor money)
Nicely stocked kitchen - I like how everywhere gives you some basic cleaning kit so you don't have to go buy washing-up liquid or cloths each time
Staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating
Free WIFI - makes all the difference to me!

The Bad Bits:

The kitchen was poor - 2 hotplates and a microwave. Good enough for heating the daughter's spaghetti, but not much else. NOTE - 2 of the apartments were decked out like this, the 3rd had a proper hob and oven in a very delightful aubergine décor)

Shower - I suspect that this was put in when God was a boy, and hasn't changed since....and the water kept running out not just in our apartment but in everyone else's - judging by the shouts I suspect you can't have 2 people showering simultaneously!

Overall, the apartments are what they are and for me I found the price reasonable, but then as a Brit on holiday I have no real concept of VFM so they may be overpriced for local renters. Certainly my other brother-in-law got a discount from the owners when he left due to the issues they had with their kitchen and shower.

Don't let my review put you off; the location and overall good factors mean that I'd consider these again if I was staying in the region and wanted a basic apartment for the family. But be aware of its limitations especially if you're looking to cook up a storm or take long dreamy showers...

"Apartment 4 has the full kitchen (I think) - better still just ask for the one furthest away or simply the one with the kitchen!"
