Detailed Reviews
This motel is located within walking distance of a big grocery store and some restaurants. The hostess was very friendly and provided us with a carton of milk and a cheese platter when we first arrived. She also gave us information on local things to do. We had a spa room on the second floor with a jacuzzi. Note that the jacuzzi can only be used between 7 a.m & 11 p.m. I think that is because it makes a lot of noise when it drains. The air conditioning works very well and was much appreciated because the weather was fairly hot when we were there. Everything was very, very clean. There were some minor negative things though. They could use another hook on the bathroom wall because there is only one towel rack. They could also use a hook in the shower for a facecloth. The shower curtain should also be bigger, as it doesn't cover the entire opening. If one is careful about where the shower nozzle is pointed, it is possible not to get water everywhere, as the floor is slanted quite well toward the drain. There were no problems with water pressure or temperature changes. There is lots of shelf space in the bathroom which is nice. We noticed some noise from the road but have a "white noise" app on our iPad, so played that all night. Then we didn't notice any road noise. The kitchenette facilities are quite adequate and come with the usual coffee, tea, etc. We ate breakfast in the room. The only big negative for me was the very firm bed. It is the only reason I would not stay there again. My husband, who can sleep almost anywhere, also thought the bed was too firm. (I bring my own pillow on trips, so cannot comment on that.)

We stayed here in adjoining units and thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights. The units were extremely well appointed and spotlessly cared for. I even enjoyed a spa bath!
There were generous toiletries and plunger coffee was available in our rooms, while Nespresso was for our use in the office.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the walking proximity to good restaurants made evening transport unnecessary.
I would definitely be eager to return.

We stayed for 2 nights mid week. All the staff are really friendly and welcoming.
Enticed by the in room spa bath, we were not disappointed. The sizeable ground floor unit was sparkly clean. The bed was huge and comfy. Bathroom sparkly clean, with shower gel and shampoo dispensing bottles (extra points) the fixed shower head would be the only negative. The kitchenette well served including a cafetiere, mini stove and a couple of pans. Bottles and plastics are recycled.
The lodge is centrally located to the shops and cafes in town, and the wider Bay region.
Would recommend, would stay again.

We stayed here for our first family holiday over labour weekend. The rooms were lovely, nice and clean and pretty large. Good size bathrooms with a bath in the unit too. Very good sound proofing. Owners allowed us in early as the room was available so we could put our little one down for her lunch nap and let us leave a little late too. Would definitely stay here again if we’re in the area!!

We were in an upstairs room which was ok for us. (Be sure to ask for downstairs if you don't want to carry your stuff up stairs)
The only disadvantage I could see with the downstairs rooms are that guests park their cars directly in front of them.
We did feel awkward about starting our car up early (engine noise, headlights) when we set off to see sunrise at Te Mata Peak.
The rooms were clean and spacious and all the basic kitchen equipment.
We don't tend to spend much time in the room - its just somewhere to sleep and shower.
The spas bath is nice but we could hear our neighbour's spa bath filling and when the jets were on - so they could probably hear ours.
Easy location to find and close to several good restaurants.

Te Mata Lodge is situated close to the town of Havelock North, great location. The hostess there is just lovely really friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and the linen all clean. We wanted to stay more than one night but unfortunately they had a conference booking and it was full so we had to move on, will definitely go back if ever in the area.

For a motel, this was better appointed than most hotels I have stayed at! They have thought of everything. Dressing gowns, plenty of towels, soaps, shampoo and conditioner, Nespresso coffee machine, mints, Sky TV with plenty of channels, and a very reasonably priced breakfast menu.
The rooms were clean, tidy, well furnished and to a very high standard.
The host Fay was very welcoming, friendly and engaging.
Perfectly located within easy walking distance to shops, a supermarket and plenty of bars and restaurants (but still removed enough to have peace and quiet during the evening hours).
I don't travel this way often, but I definitely know where I am staying next time I am in the area.

Good quality motel on the edge of the town, just a short walk to the shops, bars and restaurants.
Good location for touring the area, including the many vineyards.
Nice large room with lounge area and well equipped kitchenette.
Seating outside on balcony area.
Able to buy food supplies within a short walk
On site parking
Would definitely consider staying here if touring this area of North Island again.

Spacious and comfortable suite, with all the extras. The beds were comfy & rooms really quiet. Fay made sure we had everything we needed including a high-chair for our toddler. Great location, right in the middle of the village - great cafes & restaurants & shops nearby.
Would absolutely stay here again - certainly the best hospitality service we have experienced in a long time.

We stayed during the Christmas week. It is centrally located and within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and parks. The room we stayed has a spacious private spa. It is quite useful after a day of going around Hawke’s bay. Fay has also an excellent customer service and quite attentive to our requests. We will stay here again.
