What an absolute treat to have been able to visit the Hawkes Bay and stay at Riverside Lodge 3. My girlfriends and I were able to organise a 2 night stay away from the husbands and babies to live a few nights of luxury. With the help of the amazing Sophie we were able to plan an amazing trip. Shout out to Tony from Takaro Bike Tours who was an absolute legend as well as Rex and Michelle from my chauffeur who were so welcoming and accomodating. Riverside Lodge 3 is such a gem of a place with immaculate interiors which is why we organised a chef to come to the lodge and cook dinner for us as we wanted to enjoy the view and surroundings, it was very luxurious of us but worth every moment, thanks to Terry from Terry Lowe Catering! We would 100% recommend this trip to all our friends and family, not only the amazing location and where we stayed but for the warm welcome from everyone we met. Amazing!

We stayed at Poplars 2. It was fabulous. It is a little drive from Havelock North village but the roads are excellent and the countryside sublime. My husband, adult daughter and I spent a Monday to Friday 5 days in Hawkes Bay doing the winery, restaurant and relaxing vacation.
Poplars 2 is on a large private property with about 4 (?) other BlackBarn retreats. Each one is positioned to be completely private. From the road entrance, a well maintained driveway takes you past expertly manicured gardens, trees and lawns as you wind your way upwards to Poplars. There are two spacious bedrooms at either end of the house, so lots of privacy and the living areas in the middle. The property is elevated and has a view over the mountains that is breathtaking.
The property was immaculately clean and everything in perfect working condition. There are helpful instructions and books to explain how the house works and answer any questions.
The kitchen and general living area is very well stocked with every kitchen item or gadget you might need to cook a six course dinner for 12 people (not that we did!). There is a mini bar of Blackbarn Wines available for purchase. As part of our stay our first morning breakfast provisions were provided - these were excellent and very generous. Muesli, milk, coffee, tea, fresh fruit, eggs, juice, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausages, bacon and bread. Everything was delicious. Basic cooking items such as oil, salt, flour, sugar etc are also in the pantry.
The bathrooms were spotless and there were plenty of towels, tissues, cotton buds etc. together with Black Barn handsoap, lotions and shampoo/conditioner. The only thing they didn't have that I would have liked (and this is a very personal quirk) is a magnifying mirror. The beds are very comfortable, again with plenty of extra pillows or blankets should you need them.
The air conditioning, TV and Wifi all worked perfectly. There is a small library with books and a stack of magazines if you need something to read.
At dusk a couple of small rabbits would come up and sit on the edge of the property, no doubt the gardener would not approve, but we thought they were extra cute.
Yes, its expensive, but well worth the money. We will definitely be back.

We stayed in Black Barns Riverside Villa 1 with our adult family. There were four couples

The house is simply superb with two accommodation wings radiating off a central great room which had a dining table that seated 12 and two living areas one around a fireplace and the other an informal sun room.

There is a TV study area and the kitchen includes a full butlers side kitchen equipped with absolutely everything you could want or need.

The accommodation is four excellent rooms with king beds walk in robes and delightful ensuites two with baths that look out to the river.

There is a pool but as it was late May we didn’t use it. Black Barn organised for a chef and dinner one evening and Terry was wonderful. He served a lovely array of great canapés followed by a superb informal dinner of delicious salads some warm and two main choices Haupuka and salad or Pork Belly with crisp potatoes

Black Barn also organised for 6 ebikes to be delivered for a day riding through vineyards down to the coast

The property service and quality were simply excellent and although we had a water outage one morning the team responded quickly and it was restored in a few hours. The only negative is the water quality this wasn’t great after the outage but there was plenty of bottled Antipodes which they told us to use.

Highly recommended

We stayed in Black Barn's Riverside Lodge 3, as a party of 4 couples (also booked the poolside accommodation). It was our second stay there and, as before, it was absolutely delightful. The accommodation itself was perfectly appointed, with wonderful views over the Tukituki River. Only downside was that we had a couple of all-weather swimmers who would have liked to give the pool a go, but we put off swimming by the (lots) of drowned worms on the bottom. It had been raining, but no one came to clean it out until the fourth day, when we were leaving.

River Lodge 4 is located right beside the Tuki Tuki River 'in the shadow' of Te Mata Peak.
Wow, what a setting.
The River Lodge 4 did not disappoint, actually, it exceeded expectations!
The main bedroom with complete en-suite was way way over generous size, beautifully presented with an adjacent en-suite bedroom at one end of the house. The kitchen with its 6 plate stove is fully equipped and your first day of breakfast is provided. This was the most unexpected surprise with very generous helpings with lots of yummy treats. Won't spoil the surprise. Separated by a long porch/veranda with an outside barbecue overlooking the swimming pool, was another outstanding 2 bedroom flatlet sharing a bathroom. In the heat of December weather, the pool area was just 1st class.

We stayed here for 3 nights with another couple. We've stayed at a lot of high end places and this place would have to be right up there. It was a 2 bedroom place with both bedrooms and ensuites at opposite ends of the house. It was spacious and every amenity possible had been thought of from high quality products to the fireplace being set up, to a lovely breakfast being provided for (bacon, sausages, eggs, mushroom, fruit, juice, coffee, museli, homemade honey, jam etc), heat pumps, electric blankets, lovely linen and towels and so the list goes on. They also offered a fully stocked wine cellar with beers, sparkling water etc at very reasonable prices. The kitchen appliances were of high quality as were all the utensils and pans. Overall we couldn't fault this place. It was beautiful, quiet, had stunning views and we would definitely come back to it again. Only other comment is that cell phone coverage is not great- you really need to go outside to make a call. Otherwise free wifi was very strong.

We had 4 nights at Rush Cottage which were absolutely delightful. The heaters were on, the fire ready to light, fridge stocked with ready made meals and breakfast for the first morning. The communication was excellent before we even arrived. We made use of the bikes one day along the wonderful bike trails that are all around the vineyards. Havelock north is literally down the road - absolutely spoiled for cafe choices and some retail therapy. Craggy Range for dinner was excellent. Look forward to revisiting once the Black Barn restaurant is back up and running. Barrel aged Black barn Chardonnay is a must try.
Thoroughly recommend 👌

From the initial inquiry about Blackbarn Beach House to check in and check out Sophie and her team made the whole process so very easy. Email communication was prompt and various options/suggestions for our stay were sent through for consideration, which was much appreciated. The Beach House is beautifully appointed with tasteful furnishings, white linen, luxurious bathrobes, extremely comfortable beds, lavender toiletries and a high standard of kitchen equipment, crockery and glassware are provided. We just loved the photos in each drawer/cupboard/sideboard showing where kitchen items were stored, which after use, helped with their return. Breakfast provisions were supplied on the first morning and were locally sourced and of high quality. The living area with its open fire, large bookcase, big comfy sofas and chairs added to the cosy ambience of this ‘classy home away from home’ and to be 50 metres from the sand and surf was an absolute bonus….breakfast on the deck, watching the sun rise and set, was all magical. This piece of paradise was the perfect property for a group of 9 friends to spend three days relaxing and enjoying each other’s company…..we shall return.

River Lodge 1 is stunning. From the moment you walk in it feels like home, (I wish)
The lodge is fully stocked to make your stay all the better. Breakfast provisions were spot on, bigger pot of jam would be nice as it was so good. Sausages, bacon & eggs made for a great big breakfast for everyone around the 10 seater table.
Beds were very comfortable and bathrooms were great as well.
The lodge was spotless on arrival. Checking in was simple at BB Vineyard
The heated pool was perfect temp and given we had 30 degrees a welcome respite from the heat.
The only few things I think would be a good addition is aircon in the bedrooms as they get quite hot as the afternoon suns sets in. The fans are good but aircon would be better, and some of the sitting chairs needs to be resprung.
Other than that I would highly recommend BB Riverside Lodges.

River Lodge 1 was the ideal place for our group of 7 women for a long winter weekend. The configuration of the beds, meant we all had a bed each which is sometimes difficult to achieve when booking luxury accommodation.
We very much enjoyed staying in and cooking simple meals and relaxing in front of the gorgeous open fire, at the same time enjoying the beautiful scenery from the very comfortable living and dining areas with ample couches, chairs and window seats.
Summertime would be even more enjoyable as you could use the swimming pool and the ample outdoor entertaining areas.
Thank you so much for a lovely stay and would definitely recommend.
