Armando, Marion and Sabrina welcomed us to their guest house with open arms, running out to greet us with hugs and insisting on carrying luggage to our room. They then provided us a tour of their breath taking accommodation and allowed us to settle in before dinner.

The guest house (or Captains house) is situated at the east end with windows facing the ocean, it has 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths and a lounge room, which are very modern (inclusive of waterfall showers and towel heaters). The guesthouse has a deck which overlooks a cliff with a fantastic view of the ocean.

After we settled in we went to the kitchen where Armando and Marion greeted us with a 5 star meal and service reserved for royalty. All the food was local produce and homemade. Armando and Marion both used to own manage and cook in restaurants in Europe and it shows! Following dinner Armando prepared the sitting room while Marion made us coffee which was delightful.

On day two we awoke to a fantastic continental breakfast inclusive of Lox, ham, fresh muesli and beautiful homemade jams. Armando then gave us a lift to and from town so we could safely do a wine tour, he shared with us his recommendations so we could tailor the tour to local knowledge.

That evening Armando and Marion topped themselves again with an incredible birthday dinner for my husband, inclusive of a delicious birthday cake!

We had such an amazing time we really didn’t want to leave! If you chose to stay here you will get to not only experience great food (eat with them as much as you can), spectacular accommodations with breath taking views, but also a warm and loving family. By far the best place we stayed in our 2.5 weeks in New Zealand we already want to go back!

If we really could make you feel like royalty that would be the ultimate achievement but I am still thinking about that birthday cake which did not look perfect but I hope was yummy. YES PLEASE that would be fantastic to have you back. Who knows until then we may even accept some Hilton Loyalty Points if your parents still couldn't manage to use them all. Thank you so much for your lovely words and your kindness. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you all Kindest Regards Armando

Wow! We spent 3 weeks traveling between New Zealand & Sydney with our 5.5 year old daughter and stayed at over 15 different Guest Houses/Hotels and it’s safe to say that by far our favourite was Bay Guesthouse which should not be overlooked by anyone visiting this part of the country. This is an exceptional hidden gem. For anyone wishing to spend time in & around Havelock North then you would be hard pushed to find anywhere like The Bay Guesthouse. I can’t tell you the number of people who have been asking us about the pictures we took here as they are breathtaking.

We were so lucky to spend our Christmas there, which was nothing short of magical & will treasure the memories.

The People:
You will not find nicer & more accommodating hosts than Armando & Marianne! They were simply out of this world. They’ve put their heart & souls into delivering an amazing experience for anyone who chooses to stay with them.

You can not help but to immediately fall in love with Armando & Marianne. They were like long lost friends who we straight away able to joke with & we felt an automatic connection. Just the kindest & most interesting people.

Because we stayed with them over Christmas we were also fortunate enough to meet the whole family who are equally as great as their parents not to mention exceptionally talented chefs & table display designers ;-)

The Guesthouse:
You can not help but be blown away by the location & design of the guesthouse. I spent time talking to Armando & Marianne about how they designed & built the house themselves, which left me even more amazed. Without a shadow of doubt they should have been featured on Grand Designs. The views are simply spectacular from pretty much any room.

Each bedroom was extremely comfortable and had all the amenities you could need & who wouldn’t want to wake up to those kind of ocean views.

With the amazing location it’s only a short drive down to Waimarama Beach which is a truly beautiful beach to picnic on & explore. If you want to go a little further away then Ocean’s beach isn’t too far away which was also great.

The Food:
Because we stayed over Christmas we not only got to enjoy the daily breakfast - which is to die for, but we also got a first class dinner prepared for us on Christmas Eve. To give context only 2 days earlier we had dined at the Craggy Range restaurant which was great, but honestly did not compare to the meal we had with Armando & Marianne which was exceptional, and I don’t say that often.

Thank you Armando, Marianne, Sabrina & Fabian for welcoming us into your house the way that you did. Leaving your guesthouse was without a shadow of a doubt the worst thing & I hope we can return again one day.

What should I answer to those words? I am speechless. Thank you so much, David! We will never forget your little princess. She is our Christmas Angel with her beautiful long hair and with her special Christmas Dress. Her joy around the Christmas tree has brought beautiful and pure happiness in this big house. Her concern if Santa will find her so far away in New Zealand in the Bay Guesthouse was the highlight of that Christmas. We were so lucky to have you all with us. I am so sorry that the weather wasn't as glorious. Armando PS - The Christmas Tree Decoration from you will from now on have the best spot on the next trees and will always remember us on a very special celebration with the little Christmas Angel and the beautiful caring mother and father

Want to be treated like royalty? I highly recommend Bay Guesthouse for just such an experience. My 86 year old mother had not been on holiday for a while due to her mobility so I wanted something which would be memorable and accessible. Wow all I can say is, as good as the photos are they do not do this place justice. It is an overall experience. We were greeted at the door by Armando, Mary Ann and son Fabian and welcomed like we were the most important people on earth. The house is views all the way through from the skylights to the styling and we were extremely lucky because we went at Christmas so the trees and decorations added extra atmosphere. The Captains House is strategically placed to make the most of the sea views and sunrises. Everything was easily accessible for my mother and her walker and wheelchair.
Armando's meals were a treat and specifically catered with my mother in mind. One the 2nd night we had the pleasure of their company at dinner. Once you have experienced luxury like this I think one risks being spoilt(for comparisons) for the rest of your life. This is not our normal price range so all the love and attention was appreciated and I will be forever thankful to Armando and Maryanne for providing this last memorable holiday experience for my mother.

Dear Wendy - I knew when you booked that your visit is going to be a guest experience I will always remember. Yes, of course, I remember every guest visit - at least I hope it stays this way. But your "mama" - Excuse my Italian influence comes trough - Your mama is genuinely unforgettable for so many reasons. If I can manage to be so joyful, humbled, sharp-minded and beautiful as your mama with 86, I will be pretty happy with myself. Your mama is one of the most remarkable guests. Thank you for the chance to remember that moment.

I was taken to Bay Guesthouse as an anniversary surprise - and what a wonderful surprise it was. We were made to feel like special guests right from the moment we stepped out of our car. Homemade goodies waiting for us in the kitchen. Gorgeous accommodation in the Captains Cottage (a two bedroom self contained wing separated from the main house by a sheltered covered walkway with a very surprising floor). Everything had been thought of to make our stay perfect and I can’t recommend highly enough that you dine in in the evenings. Armando’s food is delicious and each night we were served a different themed dinner. But the breakfasts....oh, the breakfasts! Freshly cooked breads and pastries, home made preserves, Bircher muesli, fresh fruits, not to mention the European-style cured meats and cheeses, as well as a hot dish each morning. Amazing!
Very comfortable bed, from which we were able to watch the sunrise and see the wonderful view over Hawke’s Bay and Bare Island. Worth waking early for that. The double basins in the main ensuite were appreciated too.
Maryanne and Armando mad us feel they were interested in us as people and we had some stimulating conversations - to put it mildly. We were really loathe to leave when our stay was up. Nothing was too much trouble for them to ensure that every need we may have was met.
We cannot recommend Bay Guesthouse highly enough.

Dear Dianne So lovely to think back on your stay with us. What a pleasure and what an honour that we could host you on such an important occasion. Mildly and respectfully answered - How could we not be interested? This well-written interview allowed us to get a small idea about your past and how brilliant invested time can benefit family life. Inspiring! Thank you so much! Kindest Regards Armando

We decided to revisit Bay Guesthouse in just two month time!

The warmth welcome that we had from Marianne and Armando made us feel like going home meeting our family members.

The rooms and everything were maintained at their highest, excellent standards as our previous visit.

We spent 3 nights here and we get to enjoyed the beautiful sea view, nice rooms and gourmet dishes that our lovely chef prepared for us.
The food that Armando made was fantastic delicious!
We especially love the pork and beef.
Love the time we had our dinners and chat with the caring couple and it was so casual and comfortable.

To welcome us back, they made us a special cake.
Thank you Marianne and Armando.

The guesthouse was the highlight of our Hawkes Bay weekend getaway. My husband and I are absolutely blown away by the hospitality from the hosts. We spent a weekend at Bay Guesthouse, and we left the guesthouse thinking about our next visit to this beautiful place.

We simply cannot wait to plan our next trip here.

Thank you Marianne, Armando and Sabrina for looking after us so well. We cannot wait to pay you guys a visit again.

What an amazing experience - drinking champagne in the bubble bath overlooking the Pacific Ocean!
The Captains House is in the prime location, with the main bed facing directly out to the sunrise, which was spectacular! The hosts, Marianne and Armando, went that extra mile to make our stay so special. And the small touches only added to the "special-ness" - the fruit bowl, the perfume, the home made pate.....and then the exquisite breakfast....
My partner and I used the Guesthouse as a base to explore the vineyards and the rest of the bay over the weekend - it was an amazing weekend ....we cant thank them enough!

Very special to have our first real sailors (with two Captain's) in our Captain's House. And of course, you always learn from leaders. From now on we will have not only a special "Gewuerztraminer Bubble" but a dry one as well. And next time the chef has a "vegan breakfast collection" ready and tested to make sure if we get a guest who does not like to make a fuss about himself to surprise in a professional way as we always try to do. The only problem which remains will be: "How are we going to prepare ourselves not to miss these flashing lights from the Captain raising by in next year's regatta??? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

My partner and I recently had the best experience staying here! We stayed in the Captains House & I could not rate this accommodation more highly...Not a thing had been overlooked, our every need was met by our incredible & generous hosts, the breakfast and 3 course dinner (which I totally recommend!) were beautiful as were the views & our gorgeous living space.
Perfect for a couples getaway, winery weekend with the girls, or even just a little 'me' time to relax and recharge.
Armando & Marianne were wonderful hosts, looking after every need (often before you knew you needed anything!) but also super respectful of privacy & personal space.

Bay Guesthouse is a Bed and Breakfast accommodation located on a hilltop overlooking stunning, expansive East Coast of North Island, about half an hour from Havelock North.

The house is huge, yes huge that there were a spacious living area with sunroof, next to it were the beautiful dining area, an open kitchen with a pizza oven and a TV area with plenty of books to read, part of the guesthouse were solely belongs to us - our rooms (master bedroom with ensuite - bath tub), second rooms with second bathroom next to it, a small living area with TV and a small kitchenette and tea table and chairs for us to have our tea - there were creme caramel and tuna dip for crackers in the fridge to enjoy FOC!).

The house was built by the owner, Armando and Marianne and their children. It took them 7 years to complete the house and the B & B was launched 2 years ago. Armando was a chef in Switzerland and he cooked very delicious meals for us - we are still drooling for his food now.

Dinner was optional but highly recommend to those lucky ones who stay there. At the price of $45 per head, a yummy 3 course dinner comes with appetiser, main and dessert was served in the beautiful private dinning room. We were lucky to get to enjoy the full moon from our candlelit table during our stay.
You will not want to regret leaving the house without trying Armando's food.

Armando and Marianne made our stay a very memorable one by baking my husband a birthday cake for his birthday celebration. Thank you very much.

We had continental breakfast both mornings (sort of buffet style, all dishes were placed on the table for us to enjoy). We had home baked buns, cereals, fruits, cheese platter, smoked salmon, paired with coffee, chocolate milk and juice to choose from.

We love our stay very much and enjoy our dinners to the fullest, especially love the chatting session which we shared our live experiences from difference countries. Please keep this up, Armando and Marianne. We definitely will return one day.

Dear lovely Family from Auckland - Smiling Face!!! Thank you so much for your nice words and your generosity with compliments. I am so glad you mentioned the halve an hour drive. That's exactly what I need when I am driving to Havelock North and everybody is overtaking me. It's such a beautiful drive. If you like a picture-stop you need that time and not like the locals 20 Min. Just for other readers - I am just a simple chef who tries to get the basics right, and I love good food, so please don't expect fancy things. Thank you also for the breakfast Description - When we go somewhere we always look for o good Breakfast Buffet that's why we have in our small Hotel the "Breakfast Table Buffet". Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation with you and the two young adults. Kindest Regards Armando
