Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the best boutique hotels I've ever stayed in. Large rooms well appointed. Service was friendly and efficient. Location perfect for exploring the Napier/Hastings area. Not cheap, but well worth the money

We come to Havelock North every couple of months to visit parents. In the past often stay at motels which have been OK. However, Porters is in the middle of the village and is modern and very comfortable. Has plenty of secure parking. Highly recommend.

This central Havelock North accommodation can only be described as a mix of luxury and comfort. The super king sized bed was super comfortable and selections of pillows just wonderful. Lovely wine bar and restaurant next door which we recommend. Unfortunately we had a room without a balcony but that’s the only change we would make next time. The air conditioning was the best we have ever experienced. Highly recommended.

Had a wonderful stay at Porters - lovely room, king size bed, with everything you need, and a small private balcony. Perfect part of town, so close to everything, undercover parking included. We found the staff to be absolutely top notch, so welcoming and happy to do absolutely anything to make your stay as good as possible. In particular, we'd like to compliment Christopher, who was so helpful and kind. On the nights we were there, the restaurant wasn't open for breakfast, so we were given vouchers to Maina nearby and it serves about the best breakfast you could find anywhere! Basically, this is a great hotel, they're doing everything right.

Great location right in the middle of the boutique shops. The rooms were new so fresh, nice big bed, free under cover secure parking, and a small deck. Very clean, friendly staff. Great restaurant below, and wine bar.

It was such a special occasion, we had such a lovely wedding day that was so special and thought why not splash out for a lovely hotel for our first night as a married couple. The price was very steep but thought for the given occasion we would pay it just this once. The staff at the hotel were fabulous in terms of communication when it came to organising a late check in due to the wedding finishing time. Because our wedding was on a public holiday the hotel had a two night minimum stay but informing the staff as to why we only wanted it for the one night it wasn't a problem which was great. Hotel was clean and tidy which is always important for me. What surprised and dissappointed me the most was the lack of thought from the staff. They knew it was our wedding day, and I would have thought that a hotel of that standard and price would have had a complimentary bottle of champagne waiting for us on arrival. It would have been a nice finishing touch to what was a beautiful day. Because of this, I wouldn't reccomended this hotel to anyone that was requiring a nice hotel for a special occasion.

A large, bright room with soundproofing and blackout curtains. Check-in and out was efficient and underground parking is available. Everything in the village is in walking distance with a variety of shops and eating places.
