Andaz Ottawa ByWard Market boasts a prime location praised by guests for its proximity to local attractions and dining in downtown Ottawa. However, some travelers feel the hotel falls short on value for money, highlighting costly parking and less-than-ideal amenities. While the modern and stylish rooms receive commendations for cleanliness and views, issues with noise and temperature control are noted. The service is generally lauded for attentiveness, yet some guests encounter service inconsistencies. Despite its fashionable atmosphere, disruptions from street noise can detract from the overall experience.

This is a truly outstanding hotel property in the heart of Ottawa's Byward Market District, close to the Rideau Centre, National Gallery, Ottawa Art Gallery and Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica. The staff are friendly, attentive and professional while remaining casually aloof. The restaurants offer unique food options reflection local terroir and Canadian products; their cocktails are innovative, craft beers are local and delicious and the wine list is wonderfully diverse despite its lack of depth. Copper and Spirits bar on the top level is a wonderful place to enjoy happy hour and watch the sun set over Parliament hill - or party with the DJ late into the night.

The rooms are gorgeous; modern, clean and great views over the city. Washrooms are equally cutting edge with rain-showers and wall hung toilets. Reflecting the Andaz ethos, the bath products are locally hand made!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We went to Ottawa for the Winterlude with a few other families and our stay at the Andaz was one of the highlights of our trip. The rooms were clean and spacious and everything in the room was included! (Beverages and chips, with the exception of the alcohol of course). The rooftop ice bar was amazing with free taffy and very reasonable prices drinks. The hotel staff was kind and super accommodating. Andrew in particular went out of his way to rearrange our rooms so we could be on the same floor as our friends. If you are going with couples I would definitely coordinate in advance to have rooms in the same “unit” as they are somewhat connected through a corridor. It’s a great set up. The hot chocolate and coffee at the lobby bar was also very inexpensive. The ONLY thing that was tricky was the Public parking lot beside the hotel as the spaces filled up very quickly. We left with o car at one point during the day and came back and there was no spots... but we already paid for a “24 hour parking space”. We were a bit frustrated so waited for someone to leave to grab their parking spot. Just be mindful of this. The hotel was very well located in the Byward Market, walkable distance to everything!! We can’t wait to go back to Ottawa and stay there again;)

Large, stylish rooms, incredibly comfortable bed and fast WiFi. Covid protocols are still in place, so the room will only get refreshed if you ask, and you may want to bring your own soap and shampoo since the items provided are on the (very) smallish side.

At the weekends at least, the parking is an issue. You can pay for in-and-out privileges, but on both nights, the lot was full when we came back. There was no trouble getting the charges reversed, and bonus, the Green P a block away is less than half the price.

The view from the 16th floor bar is amazing, the food and beverage selection (in Covid times) was restricted but OK.

I have always known Andaz as being a luxury chain of hotels, so when I booked with them, I thought I was going to be in a luxury experience. However, when you first step in, it feels like you are in a Westin with express check in/check out area with the tiniest reception desks. In our hotel room everything was very clean, but it felt like it was missing some basic tools that luxury hotels usually have (example : bluetooth speaker). It felt very basic and not luxe. We also used their texting service for assistance as we needed to have a bottle opener and it took an hour before getting it…in addition to our chromecast service not working on the television. Bed was very comfy, however very hard to sleep when it feels like the people on the streets are in your room. Location is terrible and I think that rooms should not be on the lower floors or they should have thicker windows. I did not sleep at all. And this comes from someone who has travelled many times to NYC with way noisier sourroundings. Adding to this are the paper thin walls/doors. Our room was located right in front of the elevator and we could hear every sound of it + people talking while waiting for the elevator or coming back at night. Overall what I thought would be a relaxing one night getaway in a luxury hotel ended up being an horrible sleepless night. I would definitely not recommend staying there.

The hotel does not enforce any COVID safety measures regarding mask wearing and limiting the amount of people in an elevator to ensure social distancing. Several guests with no masks walked freely by hotel staff in the lobby and then into elevators with other guests. It was absolutely shocking to witness this total disregard for guest safety.

I paid extra for a 'Room with a View' but all I got was a view of a parking lot filled with homeless people from a nearby shelter. When I called to asked for a different room or at least a reduced rate if none were available, I ended up being hung up on by the staff. It was incredibly rude and showed little to no care or empathy.

The rooms are decent, but I suggest bringing your own toilet paper as what they provide here is the cheap 1-ply paper you find in public restrooms at gas stations. A very shockingly low standard for a hotel of this standard. I also suggest to bring your own water as this hotel has no interest in being environmentally conscious. All they provide is tiny 100ml plastic bottles. Even budget airlines will give you bigger bottles of water for free.

Lastly, don't even bother with the complimentary breakfast. They put absolutely no effort in providing decent options. All you will find is stale pastries, small packaged cheese and terrible coffee. You will find better variety and quality at a Tim Hortons nearby.

This hotel does absolutely no justice to the Andaz or Hyatt brand. You are better off staying at Le Germain or the Fairmont for the same rate and much better views.

Room was large and clean and bed was comfortable. Decent shower. Lots of traffic noise (I was on the 5th floor)—it's a busy street, and the hotel has a popular roof-top bar. Staff were all pleasant and helpful. My room wasn't ready until 7pm when I arrived, and I wasn't the only guest with that issue. (They did offer a free room upgrade to apologize.) The room was only cleaned after 4 days (they informed me upfront and I was able to request extra cleanings, as well as clean towels etc, and those arrived promptly.) I'm not sure if that was a COVID measure or a conservation measure; I didn't mind too much. The location was a block from Byward Market, in a slightly sketchy area. Convenient to lots of restaurants and pubs and Rideau Centre, 15-min walk to Parliament Buildings. I prefer staying closer on Elgin Street.

Our shower leaked all over the bathroom into the main room the night we got there, soaking the carpet and with warped wood paneling in the main room, it's clearly not the first time. We paid for a "King Size Bed With a View" and upon entering the room we got to stare at a high rise condo building and a parking lot... When we called to inform reception, they said that they "couldn't guarantee a room with a view of Parliament all the time" and that they consider anything above the 6th floor a view... but thank God they offered us a $25 credit! We asked for new towels due to the bathroom leak and never received them so we were unable to even shower the next morning. Just a terrible experience, with a lot of hype that delivered nothing but disappointment.

We were in the works of planning our wedding here with the event coordinators and stayed the night to see what it was going to be like. I'm so glad we did as we'll never be staying here again let alone bringing our friends and family.

Lastly, my $300 Ray Ban's went missing from the room. But I guess that's our fault for trusting the hotel in the first place and not using the safe provided in the room. It's not something that you think about being behind a locked door, but fair warning to others, use the safe in the room to prevent your belongings walking out of the room while you're out.

Such a disappointment and waste of time and money. We'll definitely be letting anyone we know who wishes to stay there about our experience. It was so disheartening we didn't even care to stay for the continental breakfast and preferred to just leave as soon as we could.

Checked in for one night. Booked a room for 2 with king size bed parliament view. After having to change our room 3 times due to dirty pillow cases and room not cleaned properly.Already we ended in a room with no more view (even though it was what we paid for) the front desk came and brought us new pillow cases which we had to switch them ourselves, she had given us a bottle of wine apologizing for the inconveniences and told us that we were gonna get a better rate due to what happened. Then the GM called us to discuss about the 3 rooms change saying it got them nervous...so we explained to her we also work in hospitality in a 5 stars hotel and that for us it’s very important that rooms were properly cleaned, after all they were rated 4 stars..we were asked many questions like were we worked and what was our line of work there and who was the GM there which made us feel uneasy as if we tried to get a free upgrade which wasn’t our intention at all... I just took my girlfriend whom just arrived from France to visit Ottawa for the first time and wanted her to have great experience there and also on the stay since we know Hyatt usually has very top standards. With that said we had an awesome night visiting the city and on check out I asked the front desk (another girl) about our special rate which we were promised by the another girl the night of the incident she she rudely replied that she didn’t see any notes on file and that they compte the bottle of wine only.. which was offered to us and we didn’t even ask for it. Anyways we took pictures of all the dirty rooms and be sure to contact the Hyatt complaint department as this is really unacceptable!

In my opinion, the hotel has some good points and some bad points. All higher rooms have a very nice view. But there is a demolition on one side of the hotel. The whole wall is windows so it was pleasant to look at the sky and lights below especially at night. The window opened and allowed in a very nice breeze. There was an amazing make-up mirror on the bathroom wall! The toilet had a door which is also nice. There is a very handy walk in closet but the lights are confusing. The light switches are amazing you can turn off the entryway light at the door and also above the bed. But the closet light was a motion detector and it took a while to realize it only came on if the switch was turned off at the door and not at the bed. I didn’t care for the gaudy bathroom sink fixtures but I loved the comfy pillows and room darkening curtains. Parking is behind the hotel at an Indigo parking lot, sometimes at night parking was difficult. Unless you prepaid breakfast it was not complimentary. The roof top lounge was exceptional with fire heaters at each table and an excellent view, sunsets were great but the drinks are very expensive for what you get. $21 for my small cocktail. My room on the 13th floor developed a leak which was not fixed and was rather disconcerting. The room had a fridge with complimentary non alcohol beverages and a treat was left each day which was very much appreciated to find. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to Byward market, shopping mall, parliamentary buildings, canal, restaurants etc etc

We stayed here for 4 nights in mid Dec, with the first 2 nights in a corner room and then the last 2 in a suite. Both rooms were spacious and offered beautiful views of Ottawa. The hotel is in a great location as many of the main attractions were within walking distance.

Globalist status was well recognized including complimentary breakfast and suite upgrades upon availability.

The staff were extremely helpful and attentive, especially Maria.
Self-parking was available right next to the hotel at a very reasonable rate.

We had a slight billing issue, however that was quickly resolved thanks to Melissa.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this property when visiting Ottawa and looking forward to staying here again.
