Detailed Reviews
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Bernard Gray Hall. Gloria and Henry are the perfect hosts and made sure that our stay was comfortable and memorable. The room was very spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had all the essential amenities. The breakfast spread is huge with eggs to order (really lovely), fruit, coffee, croissants etc. Henry prepared some delicious scones for us on our second day. They have a very friendly and obedient dog, Ginny. We loved petting her and having her around. They also have a couple of cats, but the hosts were kind enough to keep them in the private area of the house as I am scared of cats. The BnB also had a couple of parking spots so we didn't have to worry about paid parking. The location is fantastic with the lake, the Niagara trail and the downtown literally a stone's throw away with easy access to restaurants and shops. It was also lovely to chat with our hosts over breakfast. We highly recommend Henry and Gloria's BnB and will definitely stay with them the next time we're in Niagara on the Lake.

Even during COVID times, this was a wonderful B&B stay in NOTL. Gloria and Henry were great hosts, thoughtful about pandemic safety, and the location cannot be beat. They were even able to find the guest book from 1991 when my wife and I stayed as early B&B guests. Hospitality was just as good as it was 29 years after our first visit. Highly recommended as the place to stay for winery tours and the theatre (whenever the Shaw returns).

We stayed overnight and Gloria and Henry were fantastic hosts - very quaint and quiet location with accessibility to downtown area within minutes of walking. It was a lovely stay and delicious breakfast. The homemade scones by Henry were a total hit. The place was clean and room was very spacious with its' own ensuite bathroom. For the price, we recommend staying at Bernard.

Unfortunately, our experience at Bernard Gray Hall was not as positive as that of the other reviewers. Having been there, I’m actually very surprised that previous reviews contain no red flags about the place. I’ve stayed at a LOT of B&B’s over the years, including some older homes, and this was the worst I’ve ever seen. While the owners seem like nice people, the B&B is badly in need of some TLC and a good cleaning. The first thing you notice is that the yard is pretty unkempt. The house was probably lovely in its day but it had an odd, off-putting smell and is desperately in need of a refresh. There were large catches on the blankets on the beds and the bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned. And then there was the plumbing issue. We arrived to find that the bathroom sink was not working and the owner was trying to fix it. We took our things to the room and walked about NOTL for an hour and a half. When we returned the sink was still not fixed and the owner offered us “a bit of a discount” for the inconvenience of having to use the bathtub spout for a source of water. By this point we were already pretty iffy about staying there and fortunately, we were able to find another place at 5:30 in the afternoon. The owners were quick to cancel the reservation and refund our money.

We had a great stay. Henry and Gloria are very hospitable. The price is good for the location, being only a block away from everything. Breakfast was great as well. Felt like being family from out of town. Would stay here again.

My wife, daughter and I stayed here for two nights in June in the Secord suite. If only we had arrived earlier and stayed longer!! The B&B is one block from the main street in a quiet residential avenue leading down to the lake. everything in town is within easy walking distance. Facing the house is a park and an outside pool and private lounge area sit to the side. The house has three suites inside with a communal dining area and separate TV/reading room. Gloria and Henry, the owners, are most knowledgeable about the local area and provided lots of tourist info for us. They bent over backwards to accommodate all our requestsand a fridge in the hall provides bottled water for guests.
Our room was ensuite (super shower) with aircon, TV etc. It had a double bed and the sofa in the living area pulled out to form another bed. Breakfast was four courses and set us up for the days sightseeing. The house is non-smoking and be warned, Glorias cats sometimes wander around downstairs, but that added to our enjoyment of the stay.
We will return again on our next trip to Canada. By the way, try out Niagara Golf Club for a lovely meal and walk back to the B&B along the lake catching the sunset across Toronto on the horizon- breathtaking!!

We picked this bed and breakfast based on other comments and were not at all disappointed. The location is first rate, walking distance to everything in the old town. The accommodations were perfect with a collection of reading material in each room, also there is a library of books in the main floor sitting room/ tv room. The outdoor pool was open but the weather was not right to try it out, maybe next trip. Breakfasts were plentiful and beautifully presented. The room we stayed in was the Secord suite, but saw the other 2 rooms while there, the Shaw suite would also have been a very good pick as it has the king bed and large room that we wanted. The other room is smaller with a queen bed and large washroom also very nice but we needied the king bed. We loved it all and will defnately be back.

I stayed at Bernard Gray with friends in June 2006 -- nothing but good things to say, the rooms are nice, large with a quaint decor. The house is ideally located, steps from the lake and from the main shopping street in Niagara on the Lake. The hosts are very friendly and willing to share their knowledge of the region, and the breakfasts are delicious, home-cooked, and change every day ! Highly recommended.

We had an excellent stay at Bernard Gray Hall B&B. The room was wonderful with a king bed (super comfortable mattress) and a separate sitting room and a private washroom. It was like our own apartment in the heart of the town of Niagara-on-the-lake. We were there for 3 nights and had 3 great breakfasts. No need for lunch after those breakfasts. Anyway the hosts Gloria and her husband Henry (chef Henri) made us feel at home in there wondweful B&B. Thanks and we'll be back.

Visiting Bernard Gray Hall in early May, 2007, along with the Shaw Festival, we found the accommodations to be very comfortable and the hosts, Henry and Gloria Szylak to be extraordinarily attentive to our needs, as well as exceptionally pleasant to be with as well as on top of all the little things that make a stay at a B & B or hotel go very well.
Location on King Street makes access to all three Festival Theatres no more than 3 blocks walk. With the town park across the way an extra treat. While staying on King Street might give one pause about traffic noise (pedestrian and vehicular), in fact it is clearly in the eastern residential section so there really isn't any noise to speak of. The Szylak's many cats are a delight to be with, whether it is simply for the petting they keenly enjoy or their extraordinary performances which you have to see to believe. Great food, accommodations and wonderful hosts made for a delightful stay. Now about this year's plays............
