Detailed Reviews
Ellen and Bob Smith are a very welcoming couple! Scarlet Tunic has that historic charm, a cute cottage/art studio in the back, an ensuite in each room, the most comfortable bed and pillows, bicycles to visit local wineries, parking on the property, and restaurants and bars around the corner. Ellen is an excellent chef - her breakfast is fresh and hearty. I felt at home here... I will definitely go back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 1 night stay at this class act B&B. Ellen made us feel very welcome when we arrived and gave us a quick tour while sharing some history of her home and the unique art pieces throughout. Our room was impeccably clean ( as was every room), tastefully decorated and attention to the smallest detail apparent down to the quality of Kleenex and toiletries. Our sleep was a comfortable one and the breakfast was tasty with an eye to healthy offerings including fresh berries, eggs and yummy muffins. Knowing we were missing our kitties, we were introduced to their pair of cuddly twin cats who certainly knew how to elicit just one more pet and scratch from us. Easygoing and friendly, Ellen and Bob are great hosts and we look forward to a return stay in the near future.

My husband and I stayed here for one night for my birthday. The hosts, Ellen and Bob are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The place only opened a couple months ago, and we loved the fact that everything was so new and pristine. The Isabella Hill room, where we stayed was a gorgeous room with a large bathroom and a fantastic original claw-foot bathtub. The towels were the softest and whitest I have ever seen. The room was extremely clean and the bed was super comfortable. We had the best night's sleep. The whole house is full of character, with a touch of modern décor. The breakfast was not only delicious, but also fresh and enough to fill you up.
Fantastic location, great hosts and just an overall wonderful stay. We highly recommend this B&B!

+1
Ideally located close to the Irish Harp and Balzacs. A three minute walk to the festival theatre. The warm ambience, the quiet well appointed rooms are a true charm. Ellen and Bob are truly wonderful hosts. The breakfast was delicious Endless coffee. Orange juice, fresh baked croissants, with an assortment of jam, vanilla bean yogurt parfait with fresh diced peaches to start. Followed by lemon zest, blueberry pancakes, served with maple syrup and bacon. We highly recommend this amazing place to stay!!

Niagara-on-the-lake has so many great B&Bs yet Scarlet Tunic exceeded all of our past experiences. From an easy (and early!) check-in, to the beautifully accented home with every amenity imaginable in a B&B, to a full breakfast, and a central location on a tree-lined street, Ellen and Bob made the experience relaxing and memorable. A lot of the decorative elements of the home (clock, soaps, etc) we found in local shops, which was a nice touch making the space feel connected to the area.
Highlights from our 1-night stay included:
- large, beautiful front porch sitting area
- comfortable bed and spacious, bright, clean room
- coffee maker and robes in room
- eco-friendly shower products
- long clawfoot tub
- delicious pancake breakfast with fruit & yogurt, croissants, bacon, and fresh squeezed orange juice (everyone left the table very satisfied)
- Haagan Dazs, chips, coffee/tea, and water available throughout the day in dinning room
- two blocks from downtown NOTL
- 1pm check-in and 9am breakfast
- quiet neighbourhood
- two friendly and genuinely kind proprietors, Ellen and Bob, who offered helpful advice on places to go, see, eat
- two resident bunnies (live under the front porch)

Perfect. Fantastic. Excellent clean rooms. A nice bathtub as well as an elegant standup shower. Great breakfast. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Location is right down. Ellen was helpful with suggestions with where to eat and what to do. Our trip was a couples night out. Definitely recommended.

The Scarlet Tunic B&B has to be at the very top of your list if you are looking for B&B accommodation in Niagara-on-the Lake. Ellen and Bob (the hosts) have kept the place deliberately small, and their welcome is beyond reproach. There are only two rooms at this Inn, and each one is exquisitely appointed, each with its own ensuite. It is very quiet, spotlessly clean, and centrally located, only a one minute walk to the centre of the town and five minutes to the Shaw theatre. You will love to sit on the wide and cozy front porch, watching the world go by and eating one of the complimentary Hagen-Daz ice-cream bars available to guests
Breakfast was a real treat, starting with freshly squeezed orange juice and followed by a preserved pear on a bed of vanilla yogurt, and topped with a sprinkling of crunchy granola, this followed by lemon pancakes topped with blueberries and excellent bacon ...and, of course, endless coffee. One of our party is vegetarian, and his breakfast was equally well presented and top notch - just let Ellen know when you check in if you have special dietary needs and she will try to accommodate your wishes.

What an excellent haven Ellen and Bob have created! This is a B&B that exudes calmness, spaciousness and charm, indoors and out. It is immaculately clean. Our room was bright and large, the bed was firm-with great linens-and extra pillows and blankets in the walk-in closet. The en suite bathroom was huge, squeaky clean and featured a jetted tub as well as a separate walk-in shower. Breakfasts were fresh, delicious and generous, and Ellen accommodated our Primal Ketogenic palate without missing a beat. She is the ideal proprietor, a genuine people person, friendly and engaging, always helpful and humorous, but never hovering. Lovely garden, a cool and inviting front porch, walking proximity to all the delights of town. Couldn't ask for more.
