Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for nearly one week over Easter 2019.
The location of the hotel is right in the center of Kamloops. Although conveniently located this is also a disadvantage. Rooms to the back of the hotel towards the car park have the issue of noise (e.g. bin truck in the morning) and some scavengers roaming around (maybe the off license in the hotel building does not help). And the other two sites are towards the roads.
Also, you need to be aware that the car park is privately owned and if you don’t get your car registered AND don’t put your ticket in the car you get fined! This is a nuisance and frankly once your number plate is registered that should be enough!
Reception was not the friendliest and really depending on who was on duty! Still amazed how difficult it is for people to do their job with joy and a smile.
After we moved room (away from main road) our room did not have the look and feel you could get from their pictures- room was small and dated/ tiered! Cleanliness was just okay, but had to complain and change the pillows that where unpleasantly smelly.
The breakfast was a sad story: this is basically serving the purpose to get fed. But there is no atmosphere and even more so staff not friendly and attentive.
Worse is how filthy the place is: there is dirt on the floor, chairs, benches etc.. This is not just from the day but we could see the same dort on floor for days! Not a surprise as the breakfast area is in the bar, which undoubtedly will be cleaned thoroughly every evening before breakfast
So overall, staying here for one night is okay, staying for one week is not!

Lovely stay. While our room was small in size it had everything we needed, especially heritage character. Tiny fridge, tiny coffee maker, hair dryer, desk, chair, small closet, shower. The bed was very comfortable--soft , with fluffy pillows and duvet. We were at the back of the hotel and the room was very quiet. Attached to the lobby was a bar and we were given two tickets for free drinks to be enjoyed in the bar. The check in staff member was very friendly and helpful. The only challenge was parking. There is free parking on the street until 9 am or register your car at check in and the staff will show you where you can park near the hotel for $8 which is what we did.

Room 306 Thursday night in February 2023. Room was clean and comfortable, value for money. Not a 5* hotel but didn’t pay 5* prices. The location was perfect for us, we had no issues with noise either inside or outside. The bathroom was smaller than a 5* hotel (sic) but clean and functional, when staying in a heritage hotel you have to accept some oddities. Breakfast was a hot buffet, well cooked.
Booking in and out no problem we were advised on arriving we could park overnight for free in the street or pay $8 to park in the lot next to the hotel. We went for the free option and had no problems.
We will stay again when in Kamloops

We three stayed in July 2021. We had a room with two double beds on the third floor. Check in was polite, professional and quick. Parking is extra at the nearby lot, with the hotel taking your license plate number. The hotel has one small elevator, but it seemed adequate for everyone's use.
The room was clean and well set up. It was a bit tight for the two double beds, but worked OK. The bathroom was clean and ready to go, but set up for only two people; the front desk provided extra towels when asked. There was no anti-slip mat in the tub/shower.
The room came with three complimentary drinks at the hotel's bar, which was nice.
The good: location; friendly professional service; clean rooms; reasonable price; good bar service.
The not so good: to work the clock radio you needed either the instructions, or an electrical engineering degree; the small glass shelf in the bathroom was badly mounted so it could slip out of it's wall mounting.
Overall we recommend The Plaza as a place to stay when visiting Kamloops.

Irene at the Front Desk provided great service.
My room was small but adequate. As a woman, it would be a little easier to get ready if I’d had a larger shower, some shelving or counter space in the bathroom and a full length mirror.
I would have liked to have seen something about frequently touched surfaces being sanitized, however as it is, even pre-pandemic, I’ve always sanitized the remote, switches and door handles.
I was concerned the hotel would be noisy given the location but it was surprising quiet and peaceful for a weekend, perhaps due to time of year and pandemic restrictions.
Overall I will be staying again! Thank you

The hotel itself is older but decent with a nice lobby, however, it’s in a seedy area of town - definitely not family friendly. Although the front desk staff assured us that the neighborhood was safer than it appeared, we were concerned about having to park our rental vehicle overnight. The room was small but the beds were comfortable; however, it could have been cleaner. When I went to wipe up some water I had spilled on the floor, my paper towel came away black. The front desk attendant was welcoming and friendly, but we were disappointed that there was some confusion about the restaurant hours. At check-in, he handed us vouchers for the hotel restaurant and informed us it closed at 10:00. It sounded perfect since it had a pet-friendly patio for our dog, and we didn’t want to venture down the street in this part of town because we have young kids. Since it was just past 8:00, we decided to unload the vehicle first before dinner. We arrived at the restaurant after and seated ourselves on the patio only to be told by a waitress that the restaurant closed at 9:00 and the kitchen was closed. We eventually found a pizza joint a couple blocks down and sometime after we ordered, I looked at the time. It was 8:45, so we must have been at the hotel restaurant no later than 8:30. We could only hope that he wasn’t as wrong about not having to worry about our vehicle getting broken into as he was about the hotel restaurant hours! In the end, it all worked out. Our car was still there and intact in the morning and we were no worse for wear other than being sketched out by the area.

My wife and I chose to stay here because of its history. This hotel was built in 1926 and we chatted with old-timers on the street who remember it always being there. The hallways are somewhat narrow, the floors are old hardwood, the furnishings pretty basic. We're very easy to please: just give us a comfy bed and some peace and quiet and we're good. The Plaza Hotel delivered, and the staff were excellent. Absolutely no complaints. The central location in the heart of Kamloops allowed us to leave the truck parked and just walk around the streets and shops. We had a terrific full breakfast at the Hello Toast coffee shop directly across the street. Kamloop's finest Chinese restaurant is about three blocks to the east. We will definitely return. If you're looking for a swimming pool, exercise room, nighclub etc. look elsewhere.

Stayed just one night while working in town and very glad I picked the Plaza. Great location for the beer lover in me being so close to the Noble Pig brewpub and eatery, and not far from any other amenities. The staff was extra friendly and great for conversation, and made sure I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The restaurant was still closed for renovations but the hotel provided a substantial complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby. The room was immaculate and very comfortable despite being a bit smaller than what I’d be accustomed to. I’d certainly stay here again.

The Plaza used to be our "go-to" hotel. It was a great mix between location, comfort, cleanliness and affordability . We've stayed approximately 15 times over the last few years.
It has apparently recently changed management, and all the changes are for the worst.
Upon arriving at the room, it was noted the bathroom walls in 4 places, tub, and floor were all dirt streaked as if someone had wet their dirty hands and had shaken them to dry them. The inside of the bathroom door moulding was heavily coated with dust... As if it hadn't been wiped or cleaned in weeks. We flagged down cleaning staff in the hallway as we left and asked for it to be cleaned. After returning it was evident that none of the bathroom surfaces had been cleaned. This was mentioned to the front desk.
The next morning, the same member of the cleaning staff was in the hall. They were again brought into the room where they were shown specifically the dirty spots. Return to the room that afternoon showed the door panel had been barely wiped off. Over half the grime and dust remained. The spots on the walls that had been pointed out had been cleaned, but 2 other dirty streaks that were quite evident had not been cleaned.
Only one bath towel was provided for double occupancy. We had to ask for more towels at the front desk.
No spare toilet paper rolls were provided in the bathroom. Over 4 days we had to ask several times for more to be provided.
The breakfast provided has diminished severely in quality. Take away coffee cups were not provided. All salt and pepper and ketchup containers were empty. Even first thing in the morning. Table clothes in the breakfast area were covered in crumbs. Fruit juice containers were empty and were not being refilled.
The second time housekeeping was asked to clean the bathroom, (our second day in the room) we returned to find that our vouchers for complimentary drinks in the restaurant/pub downstairs had been taken off the table. The front desk did replace them but housekeeping should not have taken them in the first place as they were still valid.
As I lay here in bed at 11 pm on our fourth and final night, the sounds of bass heavy music reverberate through the entire hotel. There is not only a private party in the ballroom, but the restaurant has also become a dance club on Friday and Saturday nights. A call to the front desk has confirmed that this music will continue through the night until 2 am.... Unbelievable.

We are from the UK and stayed here for one night.
Check in was quick and parking was sorted easily.
We went to our room to find a horrendous mess in the bathroom sink - clearly it had just been unblocked but not cleaned afterwards. We went down to reception and were moved to a different room straight away, cannot fault the room we were moved to it was perfectly adequate for our needs.
The hotel is conveniently located for restaurants etc.
We were given drinks vouchers for the bar next door which we made use of. We were told that breakfast was included but it was literally a muffin, yoghurt and orange juice and they had no options for gluten intolerant people so I could not have mine and so we ate at Hello Toast across the road from the car park (which I highly recommend).
Overall not a bad place but a little tired in places.

Thanks for getting in touch with us.
We have a night manager on duty and you'll be able to check in no matter how late you arrive. Please just contact the front desk directly via email or phone so that they can put a note on your reservation.
We look forward to seeing you!
There is above ground parking in a lot adjacent to the hotel and you can pay for it with your room - it's an impark lot and their staff monitor it.
