The Fox Hotel offered suite options which suited our family of 4 better than a traditional hotel room. We stayed in the Superior 1 bedroom suite which had an upstairs and downstairs, 2 double beds and a pull out couch. We were skiing most days we were there and the Ski Big 3 shuttle conveniently picked up right in front of the hotel. It happened to be the Canadian “ Family Day” holiday when we were there so we had to wait for a 2nd bus one day as the first one was full. The next one came about 15 minutes later. The hotel also offers free ROAM bus passes which made it pretty easy to get around town when we didn’t feel like walking.
We enjoyed the sizable hot tub grotto area after skiing each day and appreciated it being open to the sky above and not overly-chlorinated. The continental free breakfast was much more food than I’ve ever seen at other continental breakfasts and most selections included eggs and toast as well as juices, teas, coffee.
Overall the hotel was good. There was a laundry facility which was a little complicated to use with getting the correct Canadian change from the front desk and Chili’s. A free ski locker was also provided in the underground parking garage. The kitchen was really too small to cook but fine for making a cup of tea or heating up leftovers. Many quality restaurants to be found about a 15 minute walk away in downtown Banff. We didn’t have a car but a ski vacation here without one is definitely feasible, even for a family!

This was the first of three hotels that my wife and I stayed in whilst travelling across Canada to our final destination of Vancouver, and it was a good place to call home for the three nights we stayed here. We had a fast and easy check in which was very much appreciated after our long flight from the UK. The room was large, clean and in good state of decoration, with everything we needed for our stay (iron and board, kettle, free-standing electric fan, coffee machine, large flat screen TV, toiletries (they were good quality & smelled amazing), plenty of soft towels, bath and shower with good pressure, free electronic safe, quite a few power outlets with two USB charging points on the clock by the bed). We found the room to be a little dark, so it could have done with better lighting. We were part of a party of people crossing to Vancouver to board a ship, so our breakfast was buffet style for all of our party. Now I would say that it was nothing special, and we’ve had a lot better on trips such as these – we’ve done quite a few similar trips before boarding a cruise liner, and our breakfast meals in the past have been very good, but this really was quite basic by all accounts. Saying that we quite enjoyed our stay here and it was a good choice of hotel for our first stay in Canada, and we would definitely stay here again. I would assume that breakfast would be so much better if we had stayed in the hotel as a couple and not part of a fairly large group.

Due to being assigned a disastrous room in another hotel, I asked if I could see our assigned King Suite at check in. As we arrived before checkin, we were told that it would not be possible. We were also told the hotel was fully booked and that only two possible rooms in our category were available, both of which faced the building next door. When we returned, the staff at the front desk said that we could see the room assigned but added that a loft king suite was available and if we were dissatisfied, we could choose to upgrade (of course for the added fee). After looking at the assigned suite(it was very dark and cramped) we quickly grabbed the loft. It was perfect. There is a living area with a kitchen and fireplace, floor to ceiling windows two stories high and a balcony facing the mountains. You have to climb the full flight of stairs to the upstairs king bedroom and bathroom. For us, the upgrade was worth the extra cost. Thanks to the woman who checked us in to offer an option to improve our stay. We walked to town twice and also took he free local bus. The property is at the far end of Banff Avenue however it is quieter and less frenetic! The hot tub is gorgeous. We didn’t try Chili’s for breakfast but stopped there for a dessert. The lobby decor is very fitting for the area. Parking under the building is convenient. Overall, due to the upgrade, this was a positive experience. I would have reviewed this property differently if I had stayed in the original room.

We were in Banff for a family wedding and booked rooms at the Fox well in advance because were shocked by the price of rooms everywhere at this time. We have stayed here before in the month of March and were surprised by the difference in the price. We stayed in a King room with a balcony. Our view was the loading dock. (I guess someone has to draw the short straw.) We never sat on the balcony because often our company would have employees smoking on their breaks. (Happy to hang with employees...smoking, yuck.) We awakened each morning to the "beep...beep...beep" of a delivery truck before 8 am (which the hotel posts as part of the quiet hours).
With respect to comfort, our room was ok. The bathroom is very small and I wouldn't say the bed was the most comfortable I have been in, but we were able to sleep. We liked having the extra living space and small kitchenette so that we could have family visit and enjoy a glass of wine.
It is a bit of a walk to restaurants but it was great weather so we didn't mind. The front desk provided us with passes for the ROAM shuttles which we used and it was quite convenient.
We opted not to have housekeeping come in, but I would say that someone should maybe have a look under the couch...not sure when that was last addressed!
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful...thanks for that!
In general, I just think this place needs some love and updating...I think has been a while.

The Fox is consistently good amidst overpriced hotels in Banff. The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. The decor is very nice and the linens, pillows, mattress and towels were all very good quality. The bathrooms even have Rocky Mountain Soap products, which we love (not great for people who have fragrance allergies). We also love the underground grotto hot pool, which is a nice size, and there are plenty of towels in the changing room for the hot pool, which I really appreciate. The only cons I can think of is the underground parking was quite cramped, the TV's in the rooms are very small, and there is no air conditioning (not a problem for us but might be tricky in the summer). Highly recommend walking down the street to Whitebark Cafe for breakfast - great quality products & coffee.

This hotel needs a deep cleaning. It needs updating too, but there's no excuse for uncleanliness. Our room was dirty, especially the floors. The stairs were carpeted and there was a build up of dust and maybe pet hair(?) in all of the corners. There was dust and lint on the floors - even a bug. It looked as if someone had locked their dog in the bathroom as the door was all chewed up and scratched. It is WAY overpriced, uncomfortable and outdated. I did mention the floors to the front desk clerk, but no action was taken. The beds were doubles, so small, and the mattress uncomfortable. I usually only post good reviews, but this place made me mad as it was overpriced and dirty. I've grown tired of hearing there's not enough help. If you're short staffed, solve your problem or reduce your price but we paid $500 US per night to stay in this place. Also, there's no coffee whatsoever. The coffee maker provided in the room was moldy and there's none in the lobby. Sorry, but just a great big no from us. We did however love Banff despite our accommodations.

"I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Avejay, the housekeeper at the Fox Hotel. The level of care and attention to detail in keeping the room spotless and comfortable truly made my stay exceptional. It's clear that Avejay takes immense pride in their work, and it doesn't go unnoticed. Thank you for going above and beyond to ensure a welcoming and relaxing environment!

Situated in a great location on the edge of town with outstanding scenery all around you . A great bonus is that the free bus passes by regularly . Our room had the bedroom downstairs which was compact with a tiny bathroom so we had to leave all our luggage upstairs in the living area . The cave and basin hot pool is brilliant and most relaxing . Staff were friendly at all times and the Restaurant is very good

Really great location of the hotel, 10-15 min walk to the city centre. Very nice and friendly staff, fast check-in and check-out. Parking is free and easy arranged in the underground parking lot. Rooms are nice, bed normal size, not King size bed, WiFi connection is good, TV, safe, iron and ironing board in the room. Use local soap, shampoo, conditioner, body soap brand my Rocky Mountain Co, which use natural ingredients. Room are not very soundproof. Room has a heating system, fan but no AC which they should have. But temperature was acceptable. Bathroom has storage place for your utilities or bathroom products. We were disappointed by the complimentary Continental breakfast, no broader food selection for breakfast only if you pay for it in the restaurant. Wasn't satisfied with the breakfast.

Very good hotel. Upon arrival we were given a pass to use in local buses, and of course we used it. We found it a "nice detail" (we took advantage of it to go to the National Park Administration gardens one afternoon that was rainy). We tried the heated pool and liked it. We were also in the Restaurant: we dined rich and well priced. So far we could say that it was excellent, but it is the room that did not conform us completely. Pretty small, especially when leaving suitcases, there was almost no room, and cleaning was regular. Regarding the attention, all out of ten!

Storage isn’t great... few draws and a wardrobe. Breakfast is good I thought, pastry’s, cereal, orange/apple juice, fresh fruit, yoghurt, waffles, tea and coffee. Bit crowded as people have to get the buses to the slopes but still good for free.

Hi Keith B,
Thank you for your question.
The weather in Banff in mid-late August is generally warm with variable sun and cloud. Being a mountainous area the weather fluctuates frequently and it can sometimes be rainy as well. We always recommend our guests to take along a wind/rain jacket. You can find weather stats for Banff National Park on the Parks Canada website as well.
