Our first trip to Banff and we are so pleased we stayed at The Royal Canadian. Heated, covered parking with your window cleaned every morning is representative of the small touches that separate this from other places. Hot cocoa and cookies every night in the lobby were the perfect ending to busy days. With John at the front desk, Jakob and Dillon as concierges, Rachel and Amber as servers, you're in great hands. No question went unanswered, down to how the most excellent rolls were made in house. (steam in the oven? YUM!) Enjoy any meal at the Evergreen Restaurant, and be sure to try the tomato or ginger soup!

My fourth time staying here but the first since it is no longer a "Delta" hotel. It hasn't changed much but the complimentary coffee in the lobby and the late night free cookies are missed. There are coffee machines in the rooms but only with packets of powdered "creamer".

I've stayed at a number of hotels on Banff Avenue and the Royal Canadian is still my favorite but standards have slipped slightly. Sometimes it's the small things which make a difference.

We did have a reasonably good time in this hotel which is in walking distance from the town centre. It offers well appointed and reasonably equipped rooms which are are quiet and clean. The problem we had was with the staff who obviously lacked experience (probably due to the recent pandemic) who offered little or no information when approached though they were very friendly. The Concierge was never seen again after having promised to fore=ward some local information to us and the staff in the Restaurant unfortunately had some trouble to explain parts of the menu. To our surprise they even suggested that we have to pay corkage in order to take our half drunken bottle of wine that we purchased with the dinner and decided to finish in our room.
The bar here is rather small, but t=well stocked and the bar steward was a delight when compared to his colleagues. Still, we did not dislike the hotel and there is no reason for not recommending it to other visitors to this wonderful town

We spent 3 nights at this property. Overall it was not a terrible experience but small things kept me from a higher rating. Many amenities, due to Covid, were unavailable. Spa, hot tub, steam room, and gym were closed. But these closures were not shown on our reservation. And paying over $250/night plus taxes (for a junior suite) with no breakfast or amenities, seemed excessive. When I asked the front desk if they would include parking in our rate, it was a resolute “no”. On our 2nd day, when housekeeping didn’t show up, we were advised that they only cleaned rooms after our 4th night. This is not a government regulation - the hotel implemented the policy to save money. Fresh towels, bathroom accessories, and tea/coffee, needed a call to the front desk whenever something was needed. Trivago still calls it a Delta hotel even though it hasn’t been a Marriott franchise for almost a year. Finding out, upon arrival that they were no longer part of Marriott, was disappointing. And the elevators definitely need some attention, as the start and stop is pretty rough. The staff were friendly and helpful, the beds were decent, and the shower was good.

We checked in and the receptionist didn't even welcome us; very poor customer service, we felt like an inconvenience to them. I asked several times for things like advice on activities etc. and they are totally not interested in helping guests with anything. Due to the covid restrictions, the pool has to be booked in advance, and they will not give you ANY advice on when to call etc. I called at 7:30 AM to book, and everything was already taken. When I asked when to call to actually get a spot, the receptionist was annoyed and said: it's all in your confirmation email, you should read it.
Room service is only available till 9 PM. There is no water that you can purchase or order, so if you don't have change on you to get it from the vending machine, you can't get water. No attention from cleaning staff either, not even offering to do any housekeeping, you have to call for someone to bring towels and empty the garbage. Our view is on a dumpy backyard overflowing with empty cans and bottles! No joke.
This is definitely NOT a 4-star hotel.
PS the one good thing, and reason for 2 and not 1 star is that the beds are super comfy,

Dear NorthStar, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We are disappointed to know that you did not enjoy your stay. The pool booking is a difficult situation to navigate based on the demand and the limited amount of spots available, we definitely try our best to accommodate all of our guests. We recognize that you were only able to use the pool twice during your stay and we apologize this was not to your satisfaction. In this current environment it is very important that we manage our guests expectations since so many services have changed, your comments have brought this to the forefront and will be discussed among the management team. Once again, thank you for your feedback. Sincerely,

This is an extremely disappointing hotel, they make up the rooms only every three days apparently, so one has to go down and get towels and soap etc. as necessary. We tried breakfast and were told there was a 15 minute wait. That was optimistic it was more like 40 so outside eating is recommended.

Overall, my partner and I enjoyed the Banff Royal Canadian Hotel. The rooms were beautiful, the scenery was nice, the amenities and decor was friendly and the staff was great as we connected with a few of them.

A few of the downsides (unfortunately mostly uncontrollable from the hotel's POV - COVID) were:
1. The pool and hotel was booked solid for a couple days - COVID :(
2. The restaurant was middle class, but the food prices did not reflect middle class rates. They suggested fine dining, of which it was not.
3. The coffee maker in the room was very cheap and small.
4. The restaurant (and most in the area) were full capacity with COVID restrictions). Unfortately uncontrollable).

The positives:
1. Beautiful room
2. A great price for what we got.
3. The front desk staff ( all 3 were amazing).
4. The underground parking was inexpensive and very clean and easy access.
5. The location was nice and quant.

Overall a 3 out 5. Non covid this hotel would be a 5/5.

Thanks,

I was planning to leave a 3 star review for this hotel - right in the middle. Not good, not bad, very few redeeming features and largely underwhelming but a mostly pleasant stay. The only stand out feature is the pool area which is actually what has caused me to leave this 1 star review. The pool area is great and they are doing their best through the pandemic to give each family a 30 minute slot. The booking system that they have set-up requires you to be at the front desk for 7am to book a slot for that day. Only in-person same day bookings are allowed. Except that the General Manager decided to book out all the morning slots on both the days that we stayed at the Royal Canadian Lodge for reasons unknown and she didn’t have the decency to inform her front desk staff of the reasons why. So they were left fending off angry hotel guests who had woken early to secure a time slot for their kids. You can only assume the GM booked it out for friends who wanted to circumnavigate the booking procedure or have longer than the other guests are allowed. If it was a legitimate reason, she would have told the front desk staff, who were very apologetic and quite frustrated at the situation. We won’t be returning here, even without the pool situation. There are far better options in Banff. Whoever gives out the hotel stars in Banff needs to take a star off this place.

We stayed for one night in a King suite. The room was nice with a huge bed and touches like glass wine glasses in the room.

We waited at the front desk several times as there was only one representative. Right now, during covid, there are no ice buckets or coffee/tea in the room and you have to ask. Restaurant/lounge closed before 10, which was disappointing. Parking available for a charge but is cramped.

Masks required as per Banff bylaw, which was good because the streets are packed and few people used the sidewalks with courtesy. We might have enjoyed the stay more during regular times. For what we paid, I expected a better experience.

This hotel is situated nicely on Banff Avenue, not too close, not too far from the strip. Check in was pleasant, room was just a bit disappointing (we had upgraded only to find an average room), and situated on main floor. We had upgraded due to our 30th anniversary so a bit of a better room/view would have been nice.
Rooms were clean, no issues. Rooms had a mini fridge which was nice. The King room has a little table but not really a 'sitting' area to eat or drink.
The pool area was open to reservations and this was a nice perk, having the pool hot-tub to ourselves.
There isn't really an option to get coffee nearby but at the restaurant downstairs and it is absurdly priced (2 med coffees for $10).
Now that we have stayed here, we would stay here again, as this was a nice option, but we know what to expect for next time!
