We absolutely loved Mount Royal Hotel! Perfect location, right in the center of town and walking distance to everything. It is also beside the bus station so very convenient when you have to take ROAM (public transport system). The staff were very friendly & accommodating. The beds are comfy with good quality toiletries. The restaurant annexed to the hotel, Brazen, had the best hot chocolate we had (participated in the in the hot chocolate trail).

Dear AMW2kids, Thank you for your wonderful review. We are pleased to have exceeded your expectations. The convenient location, proximity to the bus station, and easy access to ROAM definitely make it an excellent choice for getting around! It's great to hear that our staff were friendly and the accommodations comfortable, with quality touches like toiletries. We'll pass along the feedback on Brazen’s hot chocolate trail—what a delightful bonus! We look forward to welcoming you back! Kind Regards, Anthonette| Front Office Manager

We initially had a small suite - which really is a small suite. There was a small bedroom with 2 queen beds, and a separate but small living area with a sink, TV, but not a sofa bed so the second room cannot be used as a sleeping area.

Unfortunately we had a major plumbing issue in the bathroom occur that affected multiple rooms and we had to be moved to a smaller 2 queen room which was very tight with minimal storage and a smaller bathroom. Banff however has become extremely expensive since our last visit so I think small rooms will be the norm here unless you can spend over $1000 per night in peak season.

The service was excellent and the staff quickly addressed our inconvenience with the utmost professionalism and were very apologetic even though plumbing issues cannot be anticipated, especially for an old hotel in central Banff.

The restaurant attached is good for both breakfast and dinner.

Self parking is very convenient, and the ability to do laundry is a bonus.

The location is right in the heart of downtown Banff which makes all food and amenities within walking distance.

Overall I would recommend staying at this hotel for the location and the service. Just expect the rooms to be small.

We had a great time at the Mount Royal hotel for a ski and winter hiking trip. The room was well appointed and spacious - bed was very comfortable. The internet worked well for some work catching up. The common library area has free coffee in the morning what was great. There is parking for 5 CAD a day what was always available. The location right in town allows for lots of exploring and its easy to reach the ski resorts from the hotel as well. The lobby with a gas fire place and some comfy sofas allows to hang out.
A few minor things to possibly improve:
Have the free coffee around in the afternoon as well when getting back from hiking/skiing.
When we booked the room it did not offer breakfast and when we asked at checking in it seems unavailable unless booked in advance (one can only eat breakfast at the restaurant attached called Brazen what was very expensive).

Booked as a romantic getaway in the mountains, the king bed room seemed like a good fit. Upon check-in, the staff explained they could “upgrade” to a better room but it would mean 2 queen beds instead of a king but the view would be better and would be in a more desirable part of the hotel. The upgraded room was still quite small and the view was nothing special plus the window was almost entirely obscured by moisture between the glass. The hot tub was on a different floor so we looked for slippers but none were provided. There are also no water bottles and the front desk suggested we use the bathroom sink tap to drink from. Later that night we went looking for some snacks. The hotel didn’t have any and suggested we walk to a grocery store. In the winter after a relaxing hot tub it didn’t seem worth it. For the money I expected something more special and I’d choose a different option next time.

Dear wvngm1aakd, Thank You for your review. We are sorry to hear about your lackluster stay in our convenient location. Please know that our staff mean well when they informed you that tap water is safe to drink in Banff and that few steps away from the hotel are several shops and stores still open for late night snacks. We also provide slippers upon request. Your feedback is valuable to us and we'll take measures to rectify these concerns. Kind Regards, Anthonette| Front Office Manager

Loved this hotel from the moment we walked in.
All staff were so friendly and attentive.
Nicely decorated lobby with complimentary water and fruit in the morning, also complimentary tea from the library area.
The cascade lounge and hot tubs on the rooftop is a great area to relax after a busy day sightseeing.
Room had a queen bed, dressing table and everything else you might need. However, there was only 1 seat, I feel they could easily have squeezed in another small seat at the dressing table area.
The location is right on the main street with a bus stop to all major attractions right outside the front door. I would 100% recommend this hotel to stay when visiting Banff.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Hotel is placed right amongst Banff Avenue and we had a fantastic view from our room of the avenue and the surrounding mountains.

Due to its location, it was extremely convenient to be able to step out of the doors and immediately into everything on offer from shops, restaurants and hikes.

The rooom was spacious, clean and staff were excellent.

While the hotel does advise that parking is available but not guaranteed, we had no issues and were able to park on each day of our three day stay. The car park didn't fill up during our stay so parking wouldn't have been an issue.

Would love to visit again.

This is a bigger hotel than it looks from the outside and is a little dated in decor, our room was at the end of a series of corridors some way from reception but easily accessed from the lifts.
We had to wait a while for our room to be ready but we’re able to secure our bags and have a wander around the town, on return the check in was very smooth and friendly although their policy was to take 200 dollars straight out of your debit card for any possible expenses or damage, two weeks on and I haven’t had it back yet, nice little earner me thinks.
The room was box shaped but of a good size, the walls and doors were painted in drab colours and together with the wood furniture, made the room look dark, it would seriously benefit from more overhead lighting , particularly when trying to operate the kettle which was wired up inside the wardrobe, new one on me that one, although there was also a coffee machine sensibly paced on a table.
The bathroom was also of a good size with a shower that worked well, as did the air conditioning which was never too noisy.
As well as the reception staff I have to give mention to the guys situated opposite the reception called open top touring, they went out of their way to help me with a booking I had “mis managed “ that had nothing to do with them, they were able to resolve my problem and saved me a lot of further tongue lashing from my other half 🤣
The hotel is slap bang in the middle of Banff Main Street with easy access to all the outlets, it also serves as a pick up point for many of the tours so all in all a great place to stay in Banff

Dear scorcheo, Thank you for your review. We are glad you had a nice stay with us and our Open Top agents were able to help you with your concern. They'll be happy to know their efforts are noticed! As well, if you can email or call us regarding your debit deposit that wasn't returned yet please. Per policy, DEBIT holds are returned right away on check out since we need your physical card to facilitate the refund so you have to pass by the desk before you leave the hotel. It's a different transaction with Credit card hold that takes 2-5 business days for the hold to disappear in your statement. It is very unusual that debit holds take longer than 5 days to be returned. We'll definitely look into what happened once we get your booking details. We hope you had lovely memories touring our beautiful town! Kind Regards, Anthonette| Front Office Manager

This was our first time in Banff, and we were pleasantly surprised with the location of the hotel. Situated right in the centre of the town with doors out onto the main high street was very handy.

Our room was situated overlooking the carpark, which had a great view of the mountains. This meant that as I had bad jetlag I could watch the sun come up from begins these mountains. The only downside of the room was that it was probably the furthest point away from the reception!

The room itself was amazing, clean, tidy, and huge! Infact bigger than the place I rent at home!! We also had breakfast included. This was also very good as you could choose anything you wanted off of the restaurants menu. We didn't use the hot tubs on the roof as we went to the Banff hot springs. In hindsight, we should've used the hotels facilities.

To be honest, I've no idea what the room rate was as we were on a pre-arranged trip with varoius stops and locations throughout Canada, we stayed for 3 nights during mid-September and we would definitely stay here again.

The hotel interior and amenities are beautiful and feel luxurious. Nice to come home to the hotel and hop in the hot tub after a long day hiking. Totally lets itself down by allowing guests to constantly cause disruption and disturbance in hallways. Doors going all the time kids screaming down the corridor its literally impossible to sleep here. They provide ear plugs which is clearly a major red flag. Plus hotel seems to be next to some sort of club I’m not sure but music and loud people outside into the early hours… really strange for an extremely relaxed town like Banff. Though I know outside noise isnt their fault, I would never stay here again due to its location. Hotel should work harder to make sure hotel is either sound proofed properly or market it to party people. My family and I are tired after staying here.

Dear nancybC3619GX, Thank You for your review. We are glad you find the hotel's interior and amenities beautiful and get to enjoy the roof top hot tubs after a day of hiking. We are sorry you and your family were deeply inconvenienced by how loud the town is. The outskirts of Banff has a relaxed feel but it is bustling and alive at the downtown core. The hotel strictly enforce the quiet hours policy and we do not tolerate excessive internal noise. We are not a party hotel but we can agree that being situated at the very heart of a popular tourist town on its peak season, has its downside. We hope you enjoyed your visit on our beautiful town! Kind Regards, Anthonette Front Office Manager

We stayed just before lockdown in March 2020 and got an upgrade on check in We liked the location - centre of town, ski buses just behind hotel.
This trip we booked direct with the hotel and got a pretty poor room just by the lift to the hot tubs. This was the only good feature.
One light wasn’t working and the bed had a habit of moving on its frame which was hazardous for ankles. Not wishing to be charged for damage we pointed out a gouge in one wall.
The light was replaced quickly and they filled and painted the wall when we were out skiing. They then seemed to want access to verify their work when it wasn’t convenient for us.
There was no hanging space beyond that in the wardrobe which is pretty poor for a hotel full of skiers.
The hotel was booked out at weekends and so despite being returning guests we were refused an upgrade.
Housekeeping was hit & miss. The floor was hoovered intermittently and we ran out of toiletries and had to call reception. They were however really good with Nespresso capsules.
It felt like they were a bit busy & short staffed.

Yes they are but last week only one was working as the other was under repair - as it was last year by the way. The one that was "working" didn't appear to have any jets either and has room for around 6 at most.
