Detailed Reviews
This was our second visit to Dave and Shirley and we can only endorse our experience of last year that it must rank as the best B & B experience not only of Charlottetown but arguably the whole of PEI. Well done to you both in all aspects of your home and hospitality. Breakfasts were yet again truly amazing - we stayed for 10 days and never had the same breakfast twice, all fresh ingredients expertly prepared and served. The master suite, complete with private deck, has to be seen to be believed and our grandchildren were truly amazed by the walk-in closet!. Nothing was too much trouble and we will undoubtedly return.

I only wish I could rate it higher. Shirley and Dave were wonderful friendly hosts and made our trip to PEI so great. The breakfasts were outstanding- food art- almost too attractive to disturb by eating; They provided gluten free for a friend travelling with us. We were provided with snacks to take with us on our day outings around the island. They gave us great information about where to go and what to see. Our rooms were absolutely wonderful with all the amenities we could want. The location was quiet but very convenient to get around. The location on the water was beautiful with ships, tides, water birds. We had two lounges to enjoy with our friends- with a coffee machine, bottled water, snacks. I have never stayed in a place as nice anywhere. Thanks very much Shirley and Dave.

We just recently stayed at the Boathouse B&B for two nights. We could not possibly have had a better experience anywhere else on the island. Shirley is a fantastic host as she is somebody who truly cares about her guests. She is more than happy to chat extensively with her guests to find out their interests and make wonderful recommendations. Everywhere we went that was recommended by her was fantastic.
Our room was nicely appointed, comfortable, and clean. The deck overlooking Charlottetown was beautiful! The home itself was gorgeous and very well kept. Shirley has great taste and many interesting pieces from her travels. She made us feel right at home as if we were family members.
Shirley is one of the best cooks we have encountered. Her breakfasts were second to none!
Overall, we would recommend the Boathouse B&B to everyone. Our stay with Shirley could not have been better :-)

The Boathouse is located on the water right across the harbor from downtown Charlottetown. We stayed 3 nights in PEI and were so very happy that we chose this amazing B&B. When we stepped inside the front door, it took our breath away! Beautiful polished walnut floors throughout the main level, a spiral wood staircase leading to similarly beautiful lower level with birch flooring and paneling. Exquisite decor on both levels. Our room was very spacious with a small private balcony overlooking the water. We could see the big cruise ships docked in Charlottetown. Our king-size bed was extremely comfortable with very high quality sheets and bedding. The bath was also very spacious and included a large shower, free-standing whirlpool tub, double bowl sink with tilting mirrors, a bidet, heated towel rack and heated marble floor! There was also a huge airy walk-in closet with a small makeup table. A suite like this in a 5 star hotel would easily cost three times what we paid. We were given access to the entire house, except for our hostess' room and office. We felt like royalty at breakfast. The table was set so beautifully and every item was beautifully plated and delicious. Shirley may have missed her calling by not being a chef! Shirley is an amazing lady and we thoroughly enjoyed talking and sharing experiences with her. She provided us with literature and maps and places that we should be sure to visit during our stay. We would not stay anywhere else but here on a future visit. The Boathouse and Shirley have our highest recommendation.

You were absolutely delightful guests and your kindness and compassion was very much appreciated. I must also express my grateful thanks for your help on the morning when I felt unwell - you took away all the sttress and just pitched in as though you were at home - thank you both so much for that! For my part I am glad I was able to help make your visit to PEI an enjoyable experience. I sincerely hope we get to meet again - tot ziens.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Boathouse for 3 nights in August of 2015. The house is beautiful, both inside and out. It is tastefully decorated, very comfortable and very clean. The home is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood and is only a 10 minute drive to Charlottetown. Watching the beautiful sunsets in the evening and viewing the lights of Charlottetown harbour at night from the lovely deck at the rear of the home was relaxing and enjoyable. The breakfasts were so good - from the cheery room, to the lovely place settings, to the delicious food. Shirley Crew is the fantastic host & amazing lady who makes it all happen. She is very helpful in recommending places to see or dine and also provides guests with breakfasts "to go". Shirley, thank you for making our stay a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for posting such a glowing review of your stay at The Boathouse B&B. Your kind words and positive comments are most appreciated and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay here. Meeting wonderful people like yourselves has really helped to sustain me following the loss of my beloved husband last season. I thank you for your compassion and for inviting me to join you on the deck in the evenings. I thoroughly enjoyed your company. Thanks again.

We stayed here for one night as part of our driving tour of Nova Scotia and PEI. We chose The Boathouse based on TA reviews, availability at the time vis-Ã -vis cost and the beautiful views that previous guests raved about. This place is worthy of an Excellent rating minus one somewhat glaring detail that stuck with us. The 'premium' bedroom is - not too surprisingly - the master bedroom and that of the owners, and it feels like it too. There were pictures around and other personal items / touches that made us feel just a bit too awkward. There is a fine line of a feeling at home at a B&B versus actually feeling like your sleeping in someone else's bedroom - which we all like to conveniently put out of our minds and avoid thinking about when staying anywhere other than our own homes. Sadly, this tarnished our otherwise pleasant experience with this home and the helpful owners.
Likes:
- Breakfast
- Ease of driving to/from downtown Charlottetown, just off a major highway.
- Helpful, informative and responsive owners - they even followed up months later with a photo that they had taken of us. A nice touch and something we've rarely seen done by other B&B operators / owners.
- Good view of the lake and the town across the water, along with a peaceful setting.
Dislikes:
- Bedroom was not psychologically 'sterile' enough for our tastes, see above.

Apologies for the delay in this response due to being away for a couple of months but we wish to thank you for the TA review of your stay with us at The Boathouse B&B. Your positive comments are most appreciated. However, we were very sorry to hear that you felt the Master Suite was not 'sterile' enough for your taste and made you feel awkward. The Boathouse is run as a B&B for 5 months and for the remainder of the year it is, indeed, our home. The difference between a B&B and a hotel or motel is the very fact that a B&B is usually the owner's homes and therefore will quite likely will have personal things on display. The couple of pictures you referred to are of our four sons, when the were very young and guests have often commented on them and said they enjoyed seeing them and that it made them feel more at home. We are very sorry that you did not have the same experience. We have seriously considered your comments and have decided to survey our guests this summer before taking a decision to remove the pictures from the room, during the B&B season. Thank you again for taking the time to write the review.

We arrived at this B&B during a rainstorm -- No big shingle outside announcing this B&B in the neighborhood. Very unassuming from the front! Dave gave us a tour first of our room (WOW), and then the rest of the house. No details have been spared. The Master's Suite is fabulous... The whole place is gorgeous, with a view of Charlottetown across the water with many Great Blue Herons hanging out in between. Shirley and Dave presented a most delectable breakfast both days. Loved everything about this place. Highly recommend it!

Great hosts! Nothing negative to say about this place. Our stay was wonderful. Dave and Shirley give you the run of their beautiful b & b including their rec room. It looks small on the outside from the pictures but this place is georgous and goes on forever once you enter. Beautifully decorated inside. Pride of ownership definitely shows in this place. Shirley's breakfasts were beautifully presented, gourmet quality and soooo delicious! Beautiful view of Charlottetown, it backs onto the river and only 10 min drive but away from the city. The sunsets were amazing at night. We had booked the Cruise View room which gave us our own balcony to enjoy our coffee before breakfast in the morning. There was a Mr. Coffiee maker for guest use, which was great as we are early risers and like to have a cup of coffee before breakfast. Shower was quite large and very spa like. The Crews lent us there park pass and had large luxurious beach towels for our use as well. When I mentioned about finding a place to do a load of laundry before our next stop Shirley generously offered hers. They are an amazing couple, we enjoyed talking to them about their trip to Egypt. Would highly recommend this b & b. Good things come in small packages and this was a rare find. On an added note....when we booked on line Dave and Shirley were in England and Dave called us from there to confirm our reservation. Talk about customer service.

My wife and I stayed two nights in boathouse b&b when we visited PEI last July. It is clean and the location is great. The breakfast is the best among all the b&b I stayed across Canada.

We heard about this wonderful B&B from a couple Swiss ladies we met in Digby. When they heard we were traveling to PEI they highly recommended the Boathouse B&B, which is in Stratford (part of Charlottetown). This is a first class property - from the linens and furnishings to the view and the amazing 4-course breakfasts. Our hosts have gone above and beyond to accommodate and make us welcome. The pictures cannot accurately capture the luxury and tasteful decorating of this beautiful home.
