We were a party of 6 celebrating (belatedly, thanks COVID 🙄) our wedding anniversary.
I can’t recommend Casa Joya highly enough. The location is stunning, surrounded by rolling hills dotted with olive and almond trees. The views from the pool area are just beautiful.
Mary is a delight, friendly, attentive without being intrusive and nothing is too much trouble. She makes an excellent jug of tinto de verano and kept us happily supplied with these whilst we lazed around the pool.
The rooms are spotless, huge and beautifully decorated, each being different.
The food is sublime, beautifully presented and tastes as good as it looks. We had trouble making a decision from the menu choices as they all sounded so delicious. In the end our party had, tempura prawns, smoked haddock fish cakes and stuffed mushrooms. Followed by lamb, Galician beef and seabass and ended with plum crumble, apricot creme brûlée, almond & amaretto tart and chocolate baileys mousse. Every course surpassed expectations. James the chef, came out of the kitchen to chat with us too.
Due to current restrictions, there was only our party here. Something I could get used to, having our own private hotel and dining experience!
Both Mary & James were using masks and gloves and respected the social distancing guidelines. At no point did we feel concerned about the health aspect of our stay.
We had a fantastic stay and came away with full bellies, relaxed and already wondering when we can return.
Thank you Mary & James for looking after us so well. xx

Casa Joya has been, and continues to be, my favourite restaurant in the world since the day we first visited more than 14 years ago. The food and ambience is incomparable to any other restaurant. The food is prepared with expert care and attention to detail by the chef James. We have recommended well over 100 people and all of whom are now regular customers.
In accordance with the current restrictions, due to coronavirus, Mary, who looks after the front of house, is fastidious is ensuring a safe and spotlessly clean restaurant.
I have no hesitation in recommending Casa Joya as a great place to dine or stay. It had to be our first place to dine after the lockdown!

We spent 4 days at Casa Joya with family all the way from Zimbabwe, celebrating a birthday. We were warmly welcomed by James and Mary. It was perfect for both the adults and the kids. Absolutely breathtaking surroundings.
Easy access to walking and biking trails. After walking you can cool off at the pool and enjoy a drink from the bar. James was amazing at making personlised drinks.
We had food cooked by James' gourmet restaurant, my personal favourite was slow-cooked braised Ox Cheeks served with potatoe and veg. The best Spanish omelette served with salad grown onsite.
We also enjoyed Almeria's astonishing beaches and coves, which were an easy drive from Casa Joya.
The apartments were clean, beautifully decorated and well equiped if u wish to self-cater. Would also be perfect for a romantic getaway, so definately coming back. Thank you Mary and James

We visited here as we had heard the food was outstanding and we have to say, it was.
We booked to stay overnight in their accommodation, which was extremely basic. We were not expecting 5 stars and were surprised to find no tea & coffee in the rooms.
I went for a shower & there was no hot water at all.
On arrival, the host didn't greet us warmly or smile & told us, "You'll have to sit & wait." Next, we had "ID" barked at us.
We apologised for being 15 mins early for check-in & said we were happy to wait. We were made to feel very uncomfortable.
When I mentioned the water issue, there was no apology & another very unhappy face. She came to our room after our evening meal & at that time there was hot water.
Again, no apology. We were told, "It's on a timer & must have gone off, we'll alter the time, or another excuse that was given was that everyone had showers at that time & drained the tank.
There were signs all over the building / garden telling you what you couldn't do. Perhaps a sign advising when you could shower would have been helpful !
We also tried to sit in the garden by the pool, but as they hadn't put any of the chair or lounger cushions away in the rain, they were all soaking.
Overall, it was an unpleasant stay which we wouldn't recommend but amazing food !

I arranged a birthday surprise for my partner and Mary & James simply could not have done more to make our 2 day stay better. 10 of us were treated like royalty with food fit for kings, it wasn't my first visit there, and certainly won't be my last... The food is always cooked to perfection by James and Mary at front of house is both friendly and welcoming.
If you have never been I can't suggest strongly enough you should go. Lovely surroundings, beautiful swimming pool with great places to sit around and relax.

We visited again on Sunday with my parents to celebrate Father’s Day. As always, everyone had a fantastic time. We all received a very warm welcome, the food was superb and the scenery there is stunning. Visiting Casa Joya is truly a unique experience. There is nowhere like it. It is definitely our favourite restaurant in the world!

We have visited Casa Joya on many occasions, alone and with friends and family, for celebrations and just because we wanted to be spoiled. Casa Joya never disappoints. We live around 40 minutes drive away, but it is soooooo worth the journey. Last year a special menu was made for two of our girls visiting from the UK as they are both vegetarian … with around 15 options available … stunning. We have neighbours who took their small grandchildren there two weeks' ago, and the boys were made really welcome and given their own special menu. The food is always brilliant, the ambience is always warm and welcoming, and the surroundings are both quirky and beautiful. You can't ask for more.

I mentioned to Mary, when making our reservation, that it was my friends birthday, and without prompting she arranged balloons and bunting as a surprise around out table. The food was fabulous, 25 euro for 3 haute cuisine courses is a bargain. We have a place in Mojacar, one friend had not visited for 12 years and the other had never been. Throughout the week we took them to various restaurants on the playa, and had great food, but all week they said Casa Joya was by far the best and worth the hour each ways car ride. The setting is fabulous, Mary is a marvellous host, and the ambience is wonderful. Every time I visit i always wish we visited more often. I have promised my friends that next time we will stay over for the evening, which we did some time ago and can thoroughly recommend. Whatever you do, make the effort and drive to this place in the middle of nowhere, you will not regret it!! Cannot praise enough the love so wonderfully prepared by James, Mary's husband, who worked at Langhams and for Michael Caine I believe. Thankyou Mare and James for a fabulous afternoon.

Once again James and Mary excel with a fantastic menu and great service. The food is amazing and for a very reasonable price. The restaurant may be a little off the beaten track but that is part of the charm. Thanks
