We loved this place - there are just two studio rooms available in a building outside this family home with views of the mountains. We enjoyed sitting outside and watching the alpacas and chickens. The accommodation is traditional rather than modern but we were very comfortable. Springfield was nice to walk round with its doughnut feature in the park and information boards about the history of the town. There is a very useful shop attached to the petrol station. The only cafe closes at 5pm so we had a good lunch en route in Oxford and brought bread, cheese and cold meats from the supermarket there. This was one of the most memorable stays of our roadtrip around NZ.

Clean and Cosy Rooms. Everything you need to have a good stay. Wonderful helpful hosts. Rooms have heat pumps which keep them toasty Stunning views of the mountains and to top it all off a hot tub after a days skiing. What more could you ask for! We will be back 😊

After 2 days being stranded in Haast and missed my flight back to Malaysia due to very bad weather and road closure, I drove all the way from Haast together with my mom and found this motel by chance. I instantly love this beautiful motel! The view is so spectacular, with the distant snow-capped mountains in the background, horses, a few white alpacas (or llama?) and chickens. It is located right next to the Tranz Alpine train line. The motel owner, Louise, is a very friendly and kind-hearted person. The room is very cozy and exceed my expectation. Too bad I can only spend one night at this wonderful accommodation. If I've got a chance to visit NZ again, I will surely stopped by this place. Recommended!

Bahara is best described as a farm stay within the town of Springfield, with three adjacent units set on a property running alpacas, chickens and several children. It offers great views of the distant mountains and being located right next to the train line provides the opportunity for some occasional train spotting, not something you see many of on the South Island. Louise is a very friendly host in the tradition of Kiwi hospitality. Although there is no guest laundry as such, she offered to let me use her washing machine even when she was out. Next thing I knew she was bringing the basket over to hang my clothes out to dry, which of course I couldn’t stand by and let her do. The town itself is prone to blackouts and during a big storm one night the power went out then straight after, there’s Louise at the door with extra torches. The room was compact and clean and is within walking distance of the train station cafe / museum and local store. The town itself is quite small but is well located for local ski fields, and Darfield is not far away for more dining out options. Recommended!

My Wife and I had a very friendly welcome from the owner Louise with babe in arms, who showed us to our unit, which was small with a touch of coziness, clean and well maintained. The only problem was we could clearly hear the people next door but it didn't spoil our stay. The highlight were the Alpacas in the field next door.

Our recent April 2016 stay at Bahara Accommodations by far exceeded our expectations. Lousie and Rik are gracious hosts. The spa pool is a great way to relax after a day of hiking, biking and/or skiing. The accommodations met all of our needs and then some. The view of the mountains, along with the sunrise and sunset, set amongst the alpacas and chickens was exquisite. The wifi access was exceptional which is so important when traveling. Thank you.

With just 3 units run by a local family, it offers an intimate setting on a quiet farm just off the main highway. One of the owners grew up locally & have experience in the hospitality industry. The units are tastefully decorated, with all of the essentials for self catering, & VERY warm. I was the only one staying on a Saturday night so it was very quiet. The toilet was not flushing properly but it was not too bad. The shower was a bit tricky as I stayed in the accessible room with 1 queen bed so after you shower, the whole floor was wet. That's about the only thing that was a bit different. Other than that, I had a good experience.

We were travelling toward Arthur's Pass and looking for a place to stay. There were no rooms available between Christchurch and Springfield. At Springfield we were directed to Bahara by staff at another accommodation. What a lovely find. The room was spotless. The view out the front patio door was a pasture with Alpacas and a chicken coop with Chickens and a Rooster. The wifi was excellent. Louise was very accommodating and helpful.

On our way to Arthur's Pass we wanted to search for a nice accomodation for one night... and how lucky we were when we arrived at the Station 73 Café & Springfield Visitor Information. We learned one thing during our 5 weeks in New Zealand and that is to visit first the i-Site or local Visitor Centre to get the best information concerning local accomodation. We were welcomed by a very friendly and lovely lady and she called Louise of the Bahara Motel to make a reservation. It was the best accomodation we could find on our way to Arthur's Pass. When Louise welcomed us, we decided immediately that we would stay 2 days because we felt immediately at home. Louise also gave us some tips concerning nice walks in the neighbourhood and we even could use her washing-machine to wash our clothes... What is so nice about Bahara is that it is the most relaxing and close-to-nature accomodation we found... combined with the wonderful room we could use. Everything there is just perfect to make your overnight stay one never to forget ... It's a pitty that we live in Belgium and maybe will never have the chance to got back, otherwise I would go there more than once ... so, I can only recommend this excellent motel.

I can't understand the other review - saying everything was very nice and how how helpful Louise was and then only giving it three-stars. We left Christchurch looking for something in the foothills of Arthur's Pass - Springfield is a stop on the way somewhere, not a destination. We stopped at a motel that was full and they told us about Bahara, a further five miles down the road. (They even rang ahead and checked there was a vacancy.) Bahara is a small motel (four rooms?) off the main road and surrounded by fields (one with a horse, one with five alpacas) and the railway line (I think there was one goods train early in the morning, but it didn't bother us). There is a wonderful view of the mountains. The room was great new and clean. The facilities were fine. Louise was very friendly. If you are planning to drive over Arthur's Pass, then this is the ideal starting or ending point (depending which direction you are travelling). PS: I didn't mention that is also excellent value for money ...
