Hondaafushi is located in the Northern Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The island measures about 500m at its widest point and has an approximately 2km long sandy beach. The lagoon in front of the beach is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Water sports enthusiasts will feel like a fish in water at Hondaafushi. Within a walking distance, the jetty on the west side of the island allows an easy entry to the house reef. A shuttle service of a special kind will be our boat shuttle to the approximately 25 different dive spots besides the house reef. This service is available for a small service fee. Night dives and early morning dives at the house reef are daily possible.

We visited Hondaafushi as a family group booked through Voyage Prive, which was easy and smooth so will definitely use them again. A long journey which we were prepared for with a great boat ride to the island, exhilarating! The rooms were spacious and clean and the room boy did a great job daily for us. The food, buffet style was lovely and the chefs even told us they would cook anything else we fancied. The island is large, we have been to the Maldives 7 times all to different islands and this was the largest, personally we prefer the smaller islands. The sand and sea are lovely. Very windy by the pool but some lovely sunsets. Snorkelling not good and unfortunately we did have some bad weather for about 5 days, just be prepared for this if you travel in wet season. We feel the island would benefit from having another bar on the island it's big enough, the shop very small so take plenty of suntan cream and insect repellent. We wouldn't go back to the island we would always go to a different one. The price was very good.

This is a lovely island and only slightly spoiled by a few things. Very special thanks to Rasheed (room attendant) and Choion (restaurant waiter) who were exemplary and wonderful at their jobs! Fantastic beach, lovely bungalow (104), Thila bar was great (fabulous drinks and staff) although 800m from the dining room (electric buggy on call though. The restaurant had very good selection, quality and variation at all meals (except the diabolical chicken/beef Bacon - even the fish wouldn't touch it). We would love to return sometime soon!! Negatives - there is no living coral around the island, and a significant quantity of dead coral on some parts of the beach (easily cleaned up) and could be sharp if stood on. There were sometimes a fair bit of rubbish/plastics washed up on the beach areas near the Thila bar. I think most guests had a lot of bites (on legs mostly) although there were very few mosquitoes, and unfortunately, that detracted quite a bit from the overall experience for us.

My husband and I went to Hondaafushi in May as a long-awaited getaway. The Maldives has always been on our bucket list. We got an all-inclusive package for such a great price, it was hard to say no. The Good: The island is gorgeous. White sand beaches, turquoise sea - it was picture perfect. The bar area is great, with a pool that is amazing for cooling off in. The restaurant was nice, and the view from the restaurant was great. The food was great too. All meals (breakfast, lunch and supper) are buffet style, and the different options catered for everyone. I'm vegetarian and didn't struggle to find things to eat. The staff are so friendly too. We rented bicycles to cycle from the restaurant to the bar (which is a long distance away) and it was great fun, with lots of giggles on the way. For the people that don't want to walk or cycle, they have a buggy that will take you back and forth as needed. The sea is warm and so clear, and there are baby blacktip sharks that swim close to the pier and the corals reef. The Snorkling was amazing at the reef on the bar side of the island - so many fish around the rocks. If you do plan on snorkling, take your own masks, and fins, as well as seashoes - there is a lot of coral on that side, and it will hurt your feet. (On the side of the island where the accommodation is, the sand is soft and you can walk in). There is free wifi in the rooms, the restaurant and the bar area. The Bad: The excursions are very expensive (US$70 for 30 mins of paddleboarding as an example). We wanted to splurge out and hire a catamaran, but the catamaran was broken, and they were waiting for parts. The restaurant should look at covering the pastries and bread section - to stop flies from landing on it. Small Improvements: Our neighbours sunbeds broke, due to wear and tear. The staff were quick to replace them, but it was more about maintaining them. Same thing with the beach umbrellas - some werent working as expected and needed to be replaced. The units are great, but a bit out dated. The resort is scheduled for an updgrade sometime in 2023. The bar had cocktails, but were missing the 'regular' cocktails (EG: Strawberry daquiries, Mango daquiries - they had pina colada's on the menu but it was US$7 - which is expensive, it would be great if that was included in the all-inclusive price. The Pier/Jetty on the otherside of the island (where you get the best snorkeling) is damaged about 30 meters in, and that needs to be fixed. All in all, we had an incredible time. We met the most amazing couple, that will become lifelong friends. This holiday will always have such a special place in our hearts! If you are looking for an affordable holiday to an island that shouts paradise, and you don't sweat the small things, then I would definitely recommend this resort.

We stayed at Hondaafushi for 21 nights as a group of 4 adults and 2 kids in 2 deluxe rooms, it was superb! For my wife and I, this was our 7th trip to the maldives, each time on a different island. We had read some varying reviews before travelling about a few things, but I can assure you they are wrong. We found the food to be great, we never struggled to find a tasty meal and dessert at any meal time. The waiter and chefs were all very accommodating, friendly and great with our 2 young kids. Please don't be put off by the bad reviews of the food, I think some people just like whinging. And we were there for 21 nights! The only thing I can think is that those bad reviews came from people that usually go to cheaper destinations, then travelling to the Maldives to an island that is actually very reasonably priced for there, but perhaps more than they would usually spend, maybe expected that 5 star once in a lifetime luxury and service.. but you need to be spending 3 to 4 times as much for that in the maldives. There is a dive shop and water sports centre. My wife and I are divers but didn't make use of the centre as there wasn't babysitting services available on the resort, but having spoken to OT, the Dive instructor, and some people who were doing lots of diving, there are some great dives in the area. The snorkelling was good, not a big lush house reef like we've seen before but there are some bits of coral and a reasonable amount of fish. We saw a few types of ray, black tip reef sharks, nurse sharks, turtles and lots of small fish, mostly snorkelling from the long jetty by the dive centre. Accommodation was spacious and was cleaned and re-stocked very well each day. Very good access directly to the beach on the sunrise side of the island. The bar and pool area was great, very good staff, and our kids really liked the pool. Our youngest, Ralph, (1 year old) really enjoyed working with the staff on the bar, the bar staff were incredible with our kids and really made a difference to our stay. We went on the lucky dolphin trip and saw lots of dolphins. We really loved the wild nature of the island, dense jungle and the gardeners are making a superb job of the rooms and walk ways. The trade off of such a wild and natural island was the mosquitos and sand flies. We were all bitten each day, we think mainly by sand flies. We all used jungle formula max, so perhaps a different brand would be better. For us, it didn't take anything away from the holiday and would rather have the natural island rather than the stripped and sterile nature of other islands we have been to. To summarise, my wife and I have been to much more expensive islands, and cheaper.. on that basis we have stayed on islands that had better and worse of everything... which is to be expected having stayed on 3*, 4* and 5* islands. We found that we really loved this island because it was still so natural, much less driven by the "instagram" type of experience they all seem to be striving for now. We would highly recommend Hondaafushi to all types of visitors and thank all of the staff for a fantastic stay.

Just returned from a 10 night stay, there are lots of positives but unfortunately also negatives that I wish I knew before going. Positives: •The island is beautiful, the beaches and sea are stunning, the whitest sand and azure blue sea that took my breath away every single time I saw it for my entire stay, it never got old! • The staff are mainly wonderful, attentive, can not do enough for you, will always try to meet your requests. Also should point out that they are currently understaffed due to covid so are working without days off to compensate, so credit where due. • rooms are spacious, clean and the outdoor shower is a great touch, looked forward to grabbing that post beach sunset shower. • room air conditioning is highly effective and much appreciated. • communal area including toilets are always very clean and well looked after • it’s not over developed, it’s draw for us was that it’s not a mini Dubai built on a small island like most of the islands, although I believe unfortunately that is going to change which will be very unfortunate so visit before it is ruined!! •Fresh fruit cut up daily by a lovely lady at every meal. • breakfast was decent with wonderful staff making fresh pancakes and waffles and eggs and omelettes to order. Negatives: • The food. For the first 4-5 days it’s was acceptable, we could find SOMETHING at each meal to eat, but it’s definitely not good. The final few days were most definitely a struggle and we ate only for substance. Lunchtime was especially tricky to find something decent. Some days the salad bar was unsatisfactory, with a few wilted lettuce leaves and cabbage. Potatoes were frequently undercooked to the point they were crunchy in whatever form they took. The best meal we found was the Maldivian night, lovely food and we ate well that night, would be nice to see more food that was from the region. I was dreading mealtimes other than breakfast each day in the end. Deserts again were pretty dire, mousses, cake and a hot pudding, none of which were good. • The trips, don’t bother with either the snorkelling trip or the dolphin trip. The snorkelling trip was just utter rubbish, there is much more aquatic life at the jetty by the dive centre! All the coral was dead and therefore no fish to see! Save your money and give it to the staff for tips! Also, we went with children and they don’t have life jackets on board the boat for children to use when snorkelling, we requested one when getting into the water and was told we should have asked for one before leaving for the trip! In other snorkelling trips elsewhere children are automatically given life jackets. It meant that my child and therefore myself couldn’t get in the water to snorkel!! Dolphins can also be seen from the island, so no need to pay to go out on a boat for 2 hours to see them. • no shop on island. Bring everything with you! • no snacks available except at sunset at the Thila bar. Nothing! So if you miss a meal you will go hungry. With children it was a nightmare! After swimming all day they were always hungry! We brought our own snacks, but they soon ran out. •The rubbish around the island. I feel there is a real lack of care away from the main walked parts of the island about litter, lots of bottles thrown into the vegetation by maintenance staff it appears as it was often accompanied by tools or other work equipment. Very depressing to see. Overall would I return? Probably not, mainly because of the food and snack situation which is such a shame because it could be so easily sorted

What a beautiful island. Snorkelling in the house reef was amazing when you enter from the jetty. Lunch and dinner were great, different themed dinner every night. Cocktail menu on all inclusive a bit limited but still good enough. An amazing holiday all around

This was our 4th visit to the Maldives, different resort each time. We went to this island for a rest and to enjoy some sunshine and warmth. The room - deluxe room 102. Clean, spacious, with aircon and privacy Food - plenty of choice, quality OK, no problems or reactions Thila Bar - good range of drinks and fair price alternatives to the all inclusive list Trips - turtle snorkelling was very good, saw three. Snorkelling safari was poor Dive shop - Oti and Moss very helpful. We didn't dive, our friends did and said it was very good at a fair price. What we would have liked - a bar at the restaurant for pre and post dinner drinks. Now the important bit. Some of the staff are Maldivians, but quite a few are from Bangladesh. These are people working to support their families back home. Just consider that the Maldives has lost billions in the last two years from Covid restrictions. This includes these hard working people and their jobs. So we are a bit mystified with criticism. This is an industry trying to recover, so give them a chance. OK, the transfer takes time from Male, but a bit of preliminary checking would tell you that. Did we come home rested, absolutely, with a tan and put on weight! The owners of the resort AAA are intending to redevelop the island from 2023 This is part of the pattern in the Maldives to cater for more visitors. A new terminal is being built at Male airport. So if you want a quiet island , go soon. Overall - worth the cost, got what we expected

Another belated review ! We arrived here on the 19th November and stayed for a week. Having stayed in Dubai for a couple of days, we took a flight to Male for another smaller plane to Hanimaadhoo and then a small fast boat to the island. When we arrived, we were told that we didn’t have to wear the dreaded masks as everyone on the island was vaccinated and COVID free. We were allocated bungalows 107 & 108 which were quite close to the reception and dining room. The front of the beautiful bungalows are entered from a sandy road and at the rear is a small balcony area and a sandy path about 20 yards in length leading straight onto the beach. The bungalows have a very spacious bedroom / living room which has brilliant air conditioning. A doorway in the hall leads to a toilet and a fabulous outdoor shower. Cleaning and fresh towels every day. The beach is beautiful. The sea is great for swimming and snorkelling. Many beautiful fish can be seen plus the occasional small basking shark. The dining was a bit hit and miss with not a great choice but was adequate. We were allocated the same table for the duration of the stay and looked after by Hassan. The bar managed very skilfully by the jovial Rocky was at the other end of the island. This was about a 15 minute stroll or if you were feeling lazy or tired, a buggy could be summoned to take you there. A beautiful relaxing holiday on a paradise island. I would have given 5 stars but for the boat transits which are arranged by the resort. We were told to check out at 0330 for a boat leaving the jetty at 0400. We then sat at the tiny mosquito infested Hanimaadhoo airport for over 2 hours which wasn’t much fun. A later boat departure would make the difference here. Apart from the departure, this truly is a beautiful place with when we stayed had approximately 100 people including the staff. With this in mind, you can have a lot of quiet beach to yourself.

This was our 5th time of going to the Maldives and so I am comparing to previous Islands. Advertised as having house reef which you would expect to be live ,house reef dead, only live section was under the Jetty. We always look for house reef due to our love of snorkelling. Reception staff insisted that the reef was along side the arrival Jetty. No live reef that we could find. was informed of a snorkelling excursion but that wasn't what we had booked the island for. This was the biggest disappointment of the holiday. Restaurant and bar at opposite ends of island, no bar or eating areas in between and a long walk in the hot sun . Do have a golf buggy shuttle that you request to take you from one place to another but may wait a long while for it. Dive centre is run down and looks like it hasn't been looked after for years. Only 2 people on site and they were very mater of fact about not having a team running the centre. I wouldn't have booked nothing there as it looked very unprofessional and out dated. Restaurant was very well presented and the staff were very attentive and within days would remember what drinks you liked with which meal, they deserve 100% praise and respect. The fruit station was manned by a lovely lady who always had a smile and took time to have a chat. Food was fine if a little repetitive in as much as the salads were only different with small adjustments to what was added . There was always plenty of choice of other foods but most of the time the food was only tepid and not hot for lunch and dinner. First island I have stayed at that didn't offer ice cream for dessert )( I love ice cream so probably being too negative)and desserts were the most repetitive of all the food offered lots of mousse and cake, Don't go for the little eclairs they are like bullets. Our room was lovely, bright and spacious. We were All inclusive so had a soft drink mini bar that was replenished every day along side tea and coffee . Room was kept clean by the young boy daily. Clean towels and toiletries provided when needed. No entertainment at all in the evening to while away the hours. Would have been nice to have something to look forward to a couple of times a week. The disco dosent really hit the spot for older visitors. Take something to keep you entertained, books, Ipad (We found that the wi fi was very good in the room as well as in other areas), cards The island was fogged every couple of nights for mossies after some rain fall it was done nightly but despite this and using repellent we were quite badly bitten. This island could offer so much if the owners put some effort and time into reading the reviews and acting upon them. Shame because this island is big enough to offer more. Sadly I would not return to this island , I know I can get more elsewhere for the same price we paid for this Island stay. If I have learned one thing from this particular island is always go for a seaplane transfer if possible, avoid the internal domestic flight, absolute logistical nightmare.

Well first the positives, Hondaafushi is truly a hidden gem, a beautiful unspoilt island, no commercialism here, thankfully. All of the staff are genuinely happy to see you and are eager to please. The food is great The beauty is everywhere. We have been here a week now and still have a week to go. Negatives, trust me there are None, only that at some time we will have to regretfully leave this beautiful island, but we will return soon.
