Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Calcot & Spa delights many with its beautiful rooms and overall great atmosphere, although some guests would prefer a quieter setting. The hotel's spa and child-friendly amenities are popular, but there have been mentions of lengthy waits for children's meals and minor upkeep issues. Service quality varies, with commendations for attentiveness contrasting occasional reports of neglect.
Despite the rooms being praised for cleanliness and aesthetics, concerns about noise and the need for updates surface. Travelers frequently criticize the value, pointing to steep prices and less satisfying experiences.

Myself and my daughter have just had a half day spa experience and what a fantastic time we had.
From our arrival, being greeted by super genuinely friendly staff. An informative introduction to the spa and our planned activities and a informal guided tour of the spa.
The premises were absolutely immaculate throughout. (soooo much nicer than Thermae Bath Spa which is absolutely disgustingly run down and in desperate need of a thorough overhaul)
The changing rooms were huge, spotless and the vanity areas contained several hair driers, Ghd straighteners, various hair products, body lotions and even deodorant (very handy for us both!)
The entire spa was not at all overcrowded, we had most facilities to ourselves and there was absolutely no waiting to go into the various areas.
The sauna and steam room were amazing, as was the shower next to these.
The external hot tub was AMAZING!
We were actively encouraged to change our robes and towels each time they were wet and the towels on all of the loungers were changed every time they were sat on.
There were immaculate hydration stations all around the spa and these were constantly maintained. Empty glasses (plastic for safety reasons) were cleared up and mysteriously none of this was generally noticed by us as customers.
The services were seamless and beyond professional.
We both commented that we felt totally relaxed in our surroundings.
My massage and facial by Bliss was “bliss”!… she made me feel so relaxed even before the treatment began. She was informative and gave suggestions specifically tailored to my skin needs but was not at all pushy in recommending products that the spa sell.
We then went into The Gumstool Inn for our inclusive 2 course meal, drinks were extra but this was expected. We chose 2 courses from the ample spa menu but were advised we could choose any other meal from the main menu and pay a supplement.
We added a couple of starter “nibbles”… sourdough bread with a balsamic and olive oil dip and a bowl of olives…. These were stunning… so simple but so nicely done and we have never seen olives so big!!
The rest of the meal was Absolutely fantastic from beginning to end, our mackerel pate was fabulous and so well presented as was the lemon posset and crème brûlée with honeycomb and rum soaked raisins.
The staff were friendly and attentive but not overly so.
All together a fabulous experience that I will be booking again with my partner in the not so distant future.
Well done to the team at Calcot and Spa, you gave both of us memories we will treasure as my daughter heads off to university in a few weeks!!… we thoroughly enjoyed our Mum/Daughter time with you all.

Myself and a friend stayed here recently (York Room). This is the third hotel I’ve stayed in Cotswolds over last few years and it’s definitely the best. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. We had dinner in Conservatory on 2 nights of our 3 night stay and food was lovely. It would be nice to have a few more vegetarian/vegan options but I believe the menu is limited at present due to current situation so that maybe why. I was very impressed that they had a full Cocktail menu and a very experienced/friendly barman who was happy to explain the ingredients of the cocktails to us when we weren’t sure which one to choose. Beds extremely comfortable and I think I’d ask for York Room again as it was tucked away and so quiet. Loved the walk-in shower in bathroom too! Hotel is just outside Tetbury so we took the opportunity to do the Royal Gardens Tour at Highgrove (has to be booked in advance), which was very enjoyable.
My friend used the indoor pool every evening and enjoyed it. The expansive grounds are also impressive and everything is very well kept. All guests wore masks in the public corridors. Lots of hand sanitisers around for people to use. The measures put in place certainly made us feel everything had been done to make things as safe as possible.
2 bits of constructive feedback but I’m not going to deduct any points off the score as they’re easily rectified:
The whole place, communal areas and our room was extremely clean, apart from skirting boards had been missed in our room. I’ve got a thing about skirting boards as they do seem to be a frequently missed area when cleaning, not even just in hotels …… everywhere. I don’t know what issue is with this area. Maybe people don’t want to get down to floor level but I ran a wipe along them in a couple of areas and they were dirty. So some attention needed in that area.
Second point, I was a bit disappointed they didn’t have a full (veggie) English Breakfast i.e. Veggie sausages instead of the meat, tomatoes, mushrooms, eggs, beans etc. That’s always something I look for on a hotel menu.
So all in all, brilliant stay and I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit the Cotswolds. I’d definitely like to stay here again.

Hello there This is such great feedback! We strive to deliver a warm and friendly service and to make all of our guests feel welcome; so it is just so nice to know when our guests have been very impressed! Constructive feedback from our valued guests is so important to us and incredibly helpful - it helps us to fine tune our offering and just keep making everything that little bit better! I have already spoken with our Housekeeping team about the skirting boards so a keen eye will be kept on those from now on. We are using decontamination units in the rooms at the moment as an extra cleaning precaution, although they remove any bacteria on surfaces they sadly don't do the dusting! I'm so sorry that the full vegetarian breakfast isn't listed on the menu at the moment but if requested, the Chef is more than happy to whip one together for you - next time you book to stay with us just let us know and we will ensure that a wonderful vegetarian breakfast is waiting for you every morning! I can't wait to share your compliments with all the teams, I know they will all be thrilled with your comments, especially the bar team! We look forward to seeing you again soon. Best wishes Tamsyn

We stayed at Calcot manor last weekend and were fortunate enough to have good weather. The service was so professional, staff were always at hand and nothing was too much for them. We stayed in a comfortable room which was the perfect size for 2 people. Accommodation was spotlessly clean if you required housekeeping you had to notify reception in advance. We enjoyed breakfast outside that was delivered to our table in a socially distanced way and our evening meal outside facing the lawn was of top standard. The spa amenities were well organised with set booking times and we were able to enjoy the hot tub pool at our own leisure.
I wouldn’t hesitate to book this hotel and we hope to return soon in the near future!

Despite the restrictions imposed by COVID, Calcot & Spa provided a super base for my wife & I to tour the Cotswolds, it is well placed and very comfortable with excellent facilities. Our room was super spacious and well furnished. The bathroom and accoutrements was lovely, a wonderful bath and super large separate shower with twin sinks.
Our large comfy bed was great and the efficient seating area topped the bedroom off beautifully. Because of COVID, room service was very correctly limited, but our room was properly serviced by mutual and effective arrangements.
The restaurant food, once again slightly limited by the restrictions placed by the pandemic was super, we also ate in the Pub which was part of the hotel, with the same menu, but it was very relaxed and great fun, both venues with super staff.
The hotel grounds are superb with lovely walks and areas to explore. A nice touch being the open air wood burner which was very welcome in the unseasonable cool weather.
Breakfast taken in the main dining room was equally lovely, although once again restricted owing to the current coronavirus problems with no buffet, having said that it did not restrict or diminish our enjoyment or selection of food.
All in all a very good stay that we might repeat in the future.

First things first, this hotel charges a lot for a 4 star hotel. The Spa is really the only thing that would make us come back. It is just lovely, not too busy and the service at the spa was incredible. Friendly, reasonable and just what we need to make the stresses of life fade away. I would challenge anyone to not be relaxed after going to the spa at Calcot!
The room was decent size but not if you are more than 5 foot 5 inches the bed was comfy and it was clean. The products in the room were a nice touch as were the chocolates. The facilities around the hotel were good and it is well catered for families and children.
Cons:
We stayed in a ‘glorious’ room at the top end of the rooms they offer. However the greatest let down was the lack of a shower. Nowhere in any of the communications were we told of the lack of a shower. The bath took an age to fill up and thus when we are trying to get ready to go out we have to go to the spa with our shower bag for a shower. If we were at a camp site then I can appreciate it however at a top end hotel, traipsing around with a towel and our wash bags is ridiculous.
The food and service at the restaurant was really bit very good at all. The service was slow and without one smile in view. Stern and grumpy servers made our expensive dinner fairly unpalatable. We ordered the chateaubriand which came with no steak knives and the cheesy veg came without a serving spoon which then took a further five minutes to come making the steak a bit cold. All in all a pretty disappointing dinner.
Breakfast was not much better. The selection was decent but the cooked breakfast that came out of the kitchen was diabolical. The sausages were dry and over cooked as was the bacon. The poached eggs were hard and over cooked and all of it was cold. Seemed like it had been left out for a good while before it came to the table. The servers again were grumpy and didn’t really speak which was a bit weird. Service was incredibly slow.

Dear Alistair Thank you for your review following your stay with us and your comments about our incredible spa team – it certainly is a super relaxing environment to make the stresses of life fade away. I’m ever so sorry you weren’t aware that you were booked into one of our Generous Bedrooms with a bath tub only. I see you made your reservation through booking.com, which is why your communication directly from the hotel would have been limited. We would always encourage guests to book directly with us, so we can provide as much information as possible about the bedroom that has been booked and information about the hotel. I can only apologise that your breakfast and dinner experience is certainly not up to the high standards that we pride ourselves in here at Calcot. I have passed your feedback over to both the Restaurant Manager & Executive Head Chef. As a hotel we have made the decision to continue wearing face masks to protect our guests, but also our team members. I apologise if the face masks left you with the impression the team were stern and grumpy, please let me reassure you that this is not the case. Kind Regards Katie

We had a fantastic staycation at the calcot & spa from start to finish. The room itself lived up to its description of “generous” and was equipped with everything you might need (hairdryer, iron, fridge, kettle, coffeemaker, large flatscreen). We particularly liked the bathroom which had both a power shower and a luxurious freestanding bath as well as nice toiletries. The grounds are beautifully kept and we went for an evening stroll along the “trim trail”, the outdoor pool is lovely size and temperature (although slightly shallow). The spa was undoubtedly the highlight of the trip and we enjoyed all the facilities which were in top condition, the outdoor jacuzzi being a firm favourite. Dinner was good but abit limited if you are vegetarian. Breakfast was excellent and had plenty of options! Finally, I couldn’t write this review without saying how wonderful the staff were in particular Izabela and Emma at the spa and Ivanna at the restaurant who went above and beyond for us!

We visited Calcot last week (21st - 24th July 2020). We wanted a couples only break before baby number 2 joins us in September but this has to have been our 6th or 7th visit and we have been with family and children in the past.
We were incredibly impressed with how the Hotel continued to function in a Covid secure manner. The staff continued to be exceptionally warm, helpful and welcoming. Nothing was ever too much. It is their attention to detail that sets them apart. They remembered/ kept a record of food intolerances. In the afternoon we commented on how delicious the truffles were, and were treated to a plate of these at bed time with our room service order!
The food was delicious as always! To keep Covid secure the gumstool and conservatory are serving one menu and this is also the same for lunch and dinner. You would think after 2 lunches and 3 dinners, we would be bored of the menu, but this wasn’t the case at all. We were first introduced to Calcot manor through Calcot kitchens who catered for our wedding in 2014, we have always been incredibly impressed by the food created.
We visited before the pool or gym re-opened, but Calcot made sure there were still lots to do, for example exercise equipment outside, yoga/Zumba classes outside, bike loans etc. We did book in for treatments, the staff wore visors but this did not taint the experience, which was also amazing!
We felt safe throughout and I feel well rested before baby number 2 arrives. We will be returning in November with the family in tow and cannot wait.
Thank you Calcot for another exceptional visit

What an absolutely incredible experience. I was kindly gifted vouchers for a few nights away at Calcot for my 30th birthday and my partner and I were excited to have our first trip away with our newborn son and we couldn’t have enjoyed it more.
The reception team who arranged the vouchers with my family were superb, answering all their questions so my family knew that the hotel would be baby friendly and we’d be well looked after.
On booking our stay, we exchanged several emails with the reservations team ensuring that the room would be big enough for a cot and they couldn’t have been more helpful, ensuring that the room was set up with the cot, a baby bath and microwave on our arrival, taking all the stress away from travelling with a baby. Check in was super speedy and informal as well.
The customer service was exceptional, I’ve never known such a family friendly hotel, everything was thought of. We were always seated somewhere where we could have our son in his car seat next to us, they always made a fuss of him and we were consistently asked if we needed anything.
On our final night we were even given complimentary Prosecco for my birthday (a really nice touch!) whilst having dinner in the conservatory, where the food was exceptional, both for dinner and breakfast.
The indoor pool was warm enough for us to take our son for his first swim and the changing rooms are well equipped with baby change facilities making the whole thing super easy.
I also had 2 spa treatments whilst there and both therapists were brilliant, I can’t wait to go back for more!
The restaurants had ample amounts of childrens plates, cups etc and the playbarn looked fantastic.
Overall a brilliant stay where lots of memories were created. Thank you for such a memorable stay and for the superb customer service, we’ll definitely be back!

This was our first stay away from home since Covid 19 restrictions and lockdown. Quite simply this hotel is special in every single way. The staff were wonderful and helpful and it can’t have been easy for them coping with never ending changes and wearing masks non stop. We felt so welcomed. There was a relaxed atmosphere for guests despite the restrictions too and they were on the ball with distancing rules and hand sanitising etc which was appreciated. Our room was lovely and clean and we all slept well (family room). The food was just fantastic and hands down beat a hotel and restaurant famous for its food that we visited recently too. This is a lovely hotel for couples, families and friends. We look forward to returning.

We have just returned from a one night stay at the Calcot Spa. This was a present from our daughter who had purchased a B and B voucher in one of the generous rooms. This was meant to be a real treat for us both but turned out to be very disappointing! Yes the room / bathroom was very large, clean and had all the extras one would expect but the restaurant opening times meant that eating in the conservatory was the only option in the evening on site.
We had booked a table at 19:15 and enjoyed a drink in the bar area. Once we had placed our order we were seated between two parties with only 2 feet between us. This made us feel uncomfortable as we felt part of their conversation. When we asked for a different table on the opposite side the manager informed us the restaurant was fully booked despite there being plenty of alternative tables for 2 the other side. In hindsight we should have just cancelled our reservation and gone elsewhere. We were then informed we could sit in the bar at a table so chose to do this as we were still looking forward to what we perceived would be a lovely meal. We ordered the whitebait special for starter and my husband chose a burger whilst I had the veg curry. The food when it arrived was nothing short of ok as the whitebait was tasteless and mains overpriced. I accept costs have increased and really don’t mind paying for food it is if exceptional standard but this was definitely not coupled with the lack of any atmosphere left us both feeling very let down by the overall experience.
The breakfast however was good in the morning.
The spa is lovely and staff friendly but we came away feeling totally underwhelmed by what should have been a real luxurious treat.
