Detailed Reviews
This small, privately-owned lodge is in an idyllic setting within beautiful gardens, surrounded by farmland. The room had attractive, quality furnishings, the bed and pillows were very comfortable and the bathroom clean and modern. Breakfast was included and cooked to order by Renee, the owner, and served as though guests are a part of the family, which also offered a great opportunity to get tips and suggestions for activities while in the area from the owners. We loved our two nights staying at Summit Lodge and highly recommend it to other travellers.

My husband and I treated ourselves to an overnight stay for our 40th wedding anniversary.
We had the accessible room due to my physical disability and found it very good. The bathroom worked very well and having the wet area shower just makes life so much easier, lovely fluffy towels too. The bed was very comfortable and having the heat pump kept the room lovely and cool overnight. The food was outstanding, we had a most enjoyable evening meal with two other guests and our delightful hosts Jim and Tracey. I thoroughly enjoyed the continental breakfast, including delicious homemade muesli. My husband very much enjoyed the cooked breakfast. Great coffee too. We spent time in the spa which was very nice.
Tracey and Jim were wonderful hosts, they made us feel very welcome. We had a very enjoyable stay and have recommended it to our family and friends. We certainly hope to return at some stage

My wife and I stayed in the lodge for a night to celebrate my wife's birthday. We enjoyed the peacefulness of Gladstone area and the lodge. Unfortunately we could not use the spa since it was shut due to COVID. Having said that, there were plenty of relaxing leisurely activities in the gardens (including the Lamas) that time flew so fast. The host booked us a seat in Gladstone Inn with complimentary transport. The hosts were welcoming and very sociable. The rooms were tidy and inviting.
I would recommend anyone who has not been to Gladstone area to pay a visit and stay in this lovely place.

The lodge owners made you feel welcomed and the room with en-suite was very pleasant. The owners were very helpful making a booking for dinner at the local Gladstone pub. Breakfast was great, providing an opportunity to meet the other guests. Recommend as a great place to unwind within a rural setting.

We had a wonderful time at Summit Lodge. Our room was very quiet, clean and comfortable. We loved all the animals that were very welcoming. Tracey and Jim were great hosts. Jim loaned my husband his golf clubs to go golfing with. Tracey is an excellent cook - all our meals we had there were too good. I would totally recommend this wonderful place to stay.

Our family travelled up to the Masterton area for the 2017 balloon festival and because it kept getting rained on we needed to extend our stay. Most everything was booked but I found the Summit searching on my cellphone and started to make a reservation punching in a room for "2 adults + 2 children". Upon having trouble with my phone I instead called them directly to book for 2 nights and they didn't ask nor mention that they only allowed 2 people and no children.
Upon arrival we were told their rooms were for 2 people maximum. We arrived late afternoon and they allowed us to stay for 1 of our 2 nights that we booked. Tracy was polite about this but Jim called me into the kitchen to "discuss the matter". His manner was angry and right off the bat he said "you have put us in a bad predicament - you can only stay here tonight, we don't want you here tomorrow night - actually i don't want you here at all". I deeply apologized that we came with our children & told him we would keep the boys inside our room (which we did, they never came out and they were quiet). They had found us another place to stay the next night which we did appreciate. But - I was completely stressed the entire time we were there and it was unfortunate because the place is very nice & quite expensive (we offered to have our breakfast early the next morning so the other guests didn't see us) and then we left early. We have travelled around the world and stayed at dozens of "5 star" accomodations and have never been treated like this. I almost started crying after being told "I don't want you here" in Jim's angry voice.
What I would have expected was for them to gently explain their policy, offer a complete refund and send us on our way. I now wish we had not stayed there at all.

I am sorry you didn't enjoy your stay and that you felt stressed. However, on our website and on all the websites we are listed on it is very clear that we do not cater for children. I was very surprised when you arrived to see two seven year old boys with you. When you phoned, a few hours prior to your arrival, you had clearly asked for 'A' room, not two or three and you had also specified a king size bed as against twin, at no point did you mention there were four of you wishing to share one double room. You even said, when you arrived, that you were aware of our child-free policy but you didn't mention your sons when booking. As we had four other guests in residents - all expecting a quiet, relaxing, child-free stay it did put us in a very difficult situation - this was not a win-win place to be. Either we agree to you and your children staying OR we compromise the stay and experience of our other guests. We are not actually set-up to cater for 8 guests for breakfast either as our maximum occupancy is 6! I agree, Jim did get agitated - delivering on his promise is very important to him, as is honesty. Both of these values, he felt, were compromised. As I told you, in 8 years you are the first to show up with children not expected. in cases where it is discussed in advance we do offer guests with children the option of booking the wing. I thought we had found a compromise in agreeing to accommodate you one night (there being nothing else available in the area due to the Balloon Festival and the fact that you didn't arrive until around 5.30pm), refunding the second night and finding you alternative accommodation for the second night. Believe me, you were not the only ones to have been stressed by this. You will see from all our other reviews that guests generally have a great stay. Tracey

Our hosts Tracey and Jim were fantastic and their lodge very comfortable, modern and well appointed. We had a great stay in a nice room, with separate ensuite and view out to lovely gardens. The location of this property is in amongst a now developed piece of rural land that our hosts have spent considerable time planting with a variety of fruit trees, making a very pleasant environment. Breakfast was offered both continental and cooked. Good amenities and service all round. We topped off our stay with a visit to a nearby paddock, to feed Alpaca's located on the property. Highly recommend this property!
