I had stayed the night at the Waiau Motorcamp (highly recommended) and stopped off here on the way through to Christchurch in the morning for my breakfast. Sat outside on the picnic bench and had a reasonably priced and very tasty eggs and bacon on toast with a coffee. Friendly staff and other customers stopping for a chat, just much nicer than facing the bustle in one of the towns. I'll stop here again.

19 of us stayed the night in a variety of room types, which were all comfortable and cosy. We all enjoyed delicious meals for dinner and breakfast. The staff were friendly and very accommodating to our group. We highly recommend Rotherham Hotel, whether its for a meal or to stay the night

Gorgeous old bar and restaurant. Fabulous friendly hospitality and a beautiful breakfast made this the perfect stop on our journey across to the West Coast. Nothing was too much trouble from making milkshakes in the morning to adapting a menu item to gluten free. Thank you!

We decided to go for a meal, the restaurant is overpriced, the wine glasses were dirty when I pointed it out the person behind the bar she told me they were fine and poured my wine into it anyway. The customer service was poor. We didn’t stay for a meal so I can not comment on the food but if it is anything like the service????

On a wet Tuesday pulling up to the Rotherham Hotel to find such a choice of good old fashioned food was a real find. We opted for the whitebait fritters and blue cod burger and our meals were served quickly by our lovely waitress. Great food and service at reasonable prices. Highly recommend

I have spent two nights here in the past and unless you have to stay in Rotherham it is not a recommendation I would make. However if you are after a good filling country style meal then this is the place, the meals are large some would say enormous, the quality is good without being gourmet after all it is in the first place a pub, that has a dinning room.

My wife and I were traveling up to Hamner Springs and decided to explore the inland route, where we stopped at Rotherham. It was a sunny afternoon and we ordered some food and sat in the beer garden. The staff were friendly and the meals were huge and delicious. The local publican Keith had been running the place for 28 years and grows all his own produce and takes great pride in his gardens. We would recommend this hidden gem.

This is a lovely rural hotel with a great bar a dining room and a mini pool table.
Had the giant burger and it had everything in it, two meat patties, egg, onion, tomato , pineapple+ more. Washed down with some Speights gold medal and a tuatara hazy.
Really enjoyed my visit.

Very friendly and hospitable staff. Great to sample local delicacy of whitebait fritters before hitting overpriced Hanmer. Generous cheese and ham toastie. Long black coffee surprisingly good. Tea cafe out with extra hot water, milk and honey to create your cuppa to your liking. Staff more than happy to oblige.

This place was the only place available near hanmer at short notice. For $125 for a outdoor cabin was definitely not worth that price. Also with two small children there were no en-suite bathrooms or keys or locks on doors which luckily we left all gear in car when we went to get dinner from culverden. And made for a restless sleep as no lock on door?!?! Not good enough
