We had what sounded a splendid room booked but when we got there we were told that was no longer to be let and we just were to have a normal one. There was no mention of a refund. The room was spacious and had all the amenities but was tatty and in need of some TLC. Lightbulbs were missing , the shower dripped all the time and the furniture was tatty. However the tv had multi channels and all the cooking facilities worked. We had two bedrooms too. We were there more than one night and to their credit, when they made up the room they did some of our washing up that we had left. The new owner seemed to be wanting to move things in the right direction.
Just stayed one night to break up a long trip. I stayed in a gorgeous little unit attached to the office. Had everything i needed and was clean which is my biggest priority. Stayed new years eve and even then it was quiet. The lady at reception was lovely, very friendly and helpful.
Just before 2am a stranger knocked on my window and said “hey, I got the money” I just told whoever it was they had the wrong room and they left (I suspect this was drug related) I packed my things and left as I did not feel safe. I left the motel key in the room. I drove to Napier airport to thinking this would be the most secure car park and slept for a few hours before driving to my next destination.
Was in town for the International Indigenous Film Festival. Very helpful reception and accommodating staff. They were attentive to my needs before I even asked. Room was clean and tidy with well appointed linen even though décor was rustic.
Booked last minute for work. Lady was very friendly on the phone and in person. Very clean. A bit old, but everything worked great. Very cheap. Water pressure and temp in the shower was excellent. Good wifi.
Due to a last minute car problem, we urgently needed somewhere to stay for the night. Wairoa Motel was the only place that had the patience over the phone and face to face to arrange a booking. We were shown our room, and to us was awesome. Money's worth! Clean, tidy and warm! The only positive to our hectic day already. Awesome shower pressure. Cosy little kitchen and room. On the day of check out, our car still wasn't sorted. The friendly reception staff, allowed us to have our room until 1pm. And change the radiator on site 😂 (Funny, yes I know) Thank you so much for relieving the stress off our whanau/family.
Let’s start with the good. Great water pressure, friendly and helpful lady at reception and milk in an actual glass bottle. That’s all I can think of. Our room was small, sparcely furnished with an antique shower and kitchenette. The cover on the bed has seen lots of action but no laundry for some lengthy period. You’re right, we hated it. Recommendation pass through Wairoa as quickly as possible, the motel reflects the down at heal nature of the town. It’s only an hour and a half to Gisbourne or Napier and for an extra $30 you can get a room in a nice motel.
The room size is good, but it is not very clean. Main bed sheets were not ironed. Single beds in other room was clean. Found a mouldy plate of food in the microwave, The stove top needed cleaning, lots of food/fat splatters and the oven was rather grotty. Crockery and cutlery did not look and feel clean. It has a swimming pool and play area, but the gardens needs a lot of attention. This place is one of the oldest motels in Waiora, but not a great place to stay.
I should have realised when I tried to call 5x, leaving two messages with no returned phone call that this accommodation had a low standard. On arrival, staff were pleasant and helpful however the room was well below standard and dirty. I knew by other Tripadvisor reviews that the facilites were older but clean. On arrival, there was only sheets on the bed, no blankets, and the sheet was too small for the bed and had a number of ink stains. There was mould in the shower, dirt along the skirting boards in the toilet (not a big deal) but the kitchen was just awful. The oven looked like it had not been cleaned since it was purchased which caused it to smell terribly and there was cooking stains up and down the wall beside the oven. The stovetop was just as bad and pots had dirty prints on them that needed to be washed before using. All in all, I would look for anywhere else in town to stay and if nowhere is available (as happened in our case), change your plans for when other accommodation is.…
A handy spot to drop for the night. Immaculately clean and well presented. Very comfortable bed and nicely appointed kitchen space with a hot plate if you wanted to self-cater but it was a bit late for us. We were extremely grateful for the owners working in with us and leaving the key for us so we could retrieve it well after check in time.
