We had what sounded a splendid room booked but when we got there we were told that was no longer to be let and we just were to have a normal one. There was no mention of a refund. The room was spacious and had all the amenities but was tatty and in need of some TLC. Lightbulbs were missing , the shower dripped all the time and the furniture was tatty. However the tv had multi channels and all the cooking facilities worked. We had two bedrooms too. We were there more than one night and to their credit, when they made up the room they did some of our washing up that we had left. The new owner seemed to be wanting to move things in the right direction.

Just stayed one night to break up a long trip. I stayed in a gorgeous little unit attached to the office. Had everything i needed and was clean which is my biggest priority. Stayed new years eve and even then it was quiet. The lady at reception was lovely, very friendly and helpful.

The host of this place, Reuben, was super friendly and helpful. He was very laid back and nothing was any trouble.
The unit was basic - what you'd expect for the price. It was very clean. It was warm and cosy - great heater!

Stayed here last week, it's nothing special, coffee and tea selection provided is almost non existent, there wasn't a news channel on the sky tv in the room which surprised me, the tv was also too high up on the wall to watch it from anywhere other than the bed, the stove is under a cabinet with no extractor fan, so if you boil anything it causes condensation on the cupboards, the shower is low so if you're anything over 5ft 3 and want to wash your hair then be prepared to bend. I was also disappointed at the need for the police to turn up on the night I stayed after a girl was screaming at the person who checked me in. I don't know the details, but it concerned me somewhat whatever they were. However, the room seemed clean, if very worn and dated.

We stayed here by chance only as it was Art Deco Festival in Napier that week and rooms in the Hawk's bay area were as scarce as hens teeth. I know now that we couldn't have picked a better place anyway. We were greeted by Reuben and right away I could tell he was good people. Our room was the farther-est from the office and he told us if there was a problem with wifi to let him know. No problem and very good connection. The room was comfortable as was the bed. Nice linens and towels and everything you needed was there. The pool looked inviting but since the weather was not the best we passed on that but thoroughly enjoyed the spa. We were also offered bike's to use while there. Reuben is dedicated to making this older property something to envy and he's done a damn good job so far. When we checked out the next morning he went out of his way to help us with phone calls that we couldn't complete with the cheesy little phone I bought at the airport. I will say that this was the best accommodations for the money spent on our six week trip. My rating it as average only applies to the age and perception. I recommend that you give it a try...you wont be sorry. If only more Hoteliers were like him. One more thing, when booking go online and google Wiaora Motel "offiicial". This allows you to book direct and not have to use one of those third party outfits.

Reuben, I looked up the review you mentioned that had upset you. Don't worry, reasonable people can see right through the kind of person who expects to stay at Trump Tower for 100 bucks a night!

Just before 2am a stranger knocked on my window and said “hey, I got the money”

I just told whoever it was they had the wrong room and they left (I suspect this was drug related)

I packed my things and left as I did not feel safe. I left the motel key in the room.
I drove to Napier airport to thinking this would be the most secure car park and slept for a few hours before driving to my next destination.

Due to a last minute car problem, we urgently needed somewhere to stay for the night. Wairoa Motel was the only place that had the patience over the phone and face to face to arrange a booking.

We were shown our room, and to us was awesome. Money's worth! Clean, tidy and warm! The only positive to our hectic day already. Awesome shower pressure. Cosy little kitchen and room.

On the day of check out, our car still wasn't sorted. The friendly reception staff, allowed us to have our room until 1pm. And change the radiator on site 😂 (Funny, yes I know)

Thank you so much for relieving the stress off our whanau/family.

Answer from Reuben W
Hi! Pets ‘are’ allowed at Wairoa Motel. We recently changed the note to say “available on request” so that we could express a few requirements. These are, that if any pet is kept within room/unit it must be kept refined in an appropriate pet-cage. This is purely to restrict the animal from doing any damage inside your unit. This includes shedding of pet-hair on carpets and bedspreads. Animals must also be kept on a lead at all times, and any excrement must be bagged and disposed of immediately. If you require a water-bowl for your pet we can provide this for you. We do not allow any dogs listed in Schedule 4 of the Dog Animal Control Act 1996 as menacing or dangerous breeds (ie. American Pitbull Terrier). Finally, if any damage/extra cleaning costs are incurred these will be passed onto guest. I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions. Regards, Reuben (Wairoa Motel)
