Nestled in a scenic spot near the marina and downtown, Hacienda Encantada Resort & Residences captivates many travelers with its vibrant atmosphere and ocean views, perfect for whale watching. While the rooms earn compliments for their cleanliness and spaciousness, some guests suggest they could benefit from updates. Although the resort's cleanliness and service generally receive high marks, with staff being commended for their dedication, the value of the all-inclusive package is debated due to perceived hidden costs and limited offerings. Additionally, while amenities are appreciated, there's a call for better entertainment and extended pool hours.

We went to Hacienda Encantada in early January for a belated honeymoon. We found and booked it through a vacation club that we belong to, but had little other info about it. The resort's location is ideal - set far off the highway, overlooking a rocky bay where whales regularly come to feed. The units are sizable and well-equipped (even our small studio had a nice little kitchenette), and the staff were friendly and helpful.

My caution is this: we were not made aware that it is primarily a fractional ownership property, so we were immediately funneled into a pipeline of people to talk to who promised us incentives for our time, and no two people seemed to have the same information. In the end, we opted to do the tour, which took well over the 90-minutes we were promised (as we were passed through about 15 different people), but it was nice enough to tour the property and they did offer us some appealing enough perks in exchange. We did the all-inclusive for two days, which was enough time to sample some restaurants and drink in the pool; after that, we had a lot more fun venturing to restaurants off the beaten path and making meals out of a mix of takeout and groceries in our unit.

They have some nice activities, such as a bike tour around the property (be prepared to go on gravel and sand, though) and pickleball courts that always seemed to have activity on them. We especially enjoyed the Temazcal sweat ceremony, which is hosted on site by a couple who teach you all about the cultural significance of the ritual and its many elements. We did that on our last day and it was a really special way to cap off the experience.

We'd absolutely go back - especially if we could arrange to stay in a larger unit with family or friends - but we'll go back with our eyes a bit more wide open about what to expect, what not to do, and what to do.

Every time we go, we look for Oscar Gutierrez. His meteoric rise from manager of customer service at Hacienda Encantada to the big boss at Vista Encantada is well deserved. He remembers owners and takes the time to converse. His leadership style is a reflection of his management team: compassionate, friendly, strategic and smart. Oscar is the reason we come each year.

Comfort, Food and People
BTW, the mattress & pillows in El Encanto are so comfortable. The food at El Patio is exceptional; check out the Tropical Salad and the Governor's Tacos. Alex, the only bartender at El Encanto is a multi-tasking czar -- doing five things at once-- tending to two restaurants and customers every single moment. Alex needs help and a raise. Shout-out to Giselle Montoya, Reservations. Giselle is always responsive, and accommodating to our reservation requests and Bill was able to meet with her face-to-face. The concierge, front-end sales staff, maid service, gardeners are great. Our butlers Clemente & Fani helped with dinner reservations. You may also meet new friends. Thank you all for a memorable vacation.

Eli was the driver that picked us up from the airport, what a great way to start our trip. He was amazing!

Upon arrival to El Encanto we were served margaritas while the bellmen gathered our bags for us and kept them safe until our rooms were ready. It felt like top notch service from the start.

But the service is very slow at the pool, swim up bars and also at the restaurants. Unless you are blessed to have Veronica, Daniel, Carlos or Isabel they were exceptional!

There was golf cart service that drive you around throughout the resort. Every single driver was so helpful, friendly and prompt. By the end of the week we knew them by name and we miss them now that we are back home. Joel, Fernando and Felipe (I Think) were wonderful and we felt very safe with them driving us around.

The resort is gorgeous, clean and safe

Make sure to keep track of your room key and pool cards as they will try and charge you $25 for each missing card upon checkout. Also, if you make a reservation and plans change, be sure to cancel your reservation or you will charged for that as well. Time share sales people are a little aggressive at first, but aren’t they all?

Overall, I would definitely return!

I never write hotel reviews, but I wanted to voice caution of staying here due to deceptive marketing and pressure tactics. The stays are offered with $100 resort credit on their website, but buried in the fine print is those costs are broken down across spa services, room service and activities, and capped individually. Even though I had a massage and a room service meal that cost more than $100, my credit was only $80 because I didn't book an activity.

There is also a timeshare/membership site at this property. At check in, you will be ushered to a separate desk where a salesperson will pressure you about becoming a member, using the same deceptive resort credits as bait, and will not take no for an answer. I had to tell this guy no at least ten times, and he just made it more uncomfortable the more I resisted.

Finally, if you're like me and like to swim in the ocean at these beach properties, they have swells on site, leaving a tiny, bad pool to swim in, definitely the worst pool I've seen at a nice hotel. This property has a terrible location anyway, so I recommend something closer to San Jose del Cabo, which has actual beachside hotels.

First the Good. Beautiful resort, beautiful coastline, wonderful working staff on the service side and beautiful chapel with a great priest f0r Sunday service.

The not so good. We purchased a two Bedroom unit jointly with another couple two years before it opened! Although the accommodations were always great, every single time we made a rez all communication regarding it went to our joint owner, not to us, even though we were going in the heat of the summer and they were going in the winter. So, try as we might, they could never get our names on the reservation and all communication went to our joint owner who had to the forward it to us. It took about 5 years to get it right. For the second bedroom, it took and act of congress to get them on a separate bill even though their room number was distinctly different than ours, In all our visits I tried to correct this with Maria, their Owner's Manager and only found her in the office one time in all our years.

The final blow: This last August/September We booked 2 weeks, All Inclusive. The 1st for Hacienda Phase 1 and the 2nd for the New Vista at an increased price. I am Handicapped and move in an electric Mobility Scooter. The resort knows that and I reiterate it each time we go there. The Phase 1 building elevator has a dreadful history of mechanical problems and has been shut down for days before. Every year I have called almost every week to reiterate my need for an entry level suite so I would have access if the elevator was no working. So we get there and our suite is on the top floor at the end of building!

It gets worse. We were shocked to discover that 2 of the best restaurants were not open and the the real shocker was the Vista, a beautiful resort w/in the resort was totally closed. The rooftop pool had been leaking and was boarded off. The best restaurant was closed. There was no entertainment. We had paid and they had billed us extra for this resort and at a much higher AI fee. We complained as the management had known all this when we made our reservation and took our payment w/o telling us; They offered other accommodations but non of which came close to our wish and expectations. When I questioned the reservation person I have worked with several years and trusted, he simply explained that he "Told us what he was told to tell us!" We immediately cancelled our second week and found another resort in the Cabo area.

This is the ownership and management of The Grand Hotels. We and our partners have cancelled our ownership at Hacienda Encantada.

The place is very pretty and quite spread out. They have golf carts to get you around. That was awesome.

There are LOTS of kids which surprised us. Even though kids are allowed it is supposed to be a higher end resort. They did have an adults only section and it was great!!

The resort is very different than other all inclusive. It actually is not unlimited.. we didn't get anything but beer, Coke and water in our room fridge. Room service costs you too.
And they don't replenish when your room is cleaned. You have to sign off on bills and can only run a tab for about 30 min. It's very confusing.

Check out is 10 am and our shuttle did not come until 12:20. We were told at check out we can enjoy all amenities in our all inclusive until we leave. NOT TRUE!
We went to the piano bar in the lobby and unless I wanted to pay more,I could not get a drink. They said ee only had until 11 am.
I went to the front desk, they said we had until 12. Still they would not serve us. SCAM! Get you sh*t together and be consistent.

The room was OK..
Our bathroom sink was plugged and the shower had water all over the bathroom floor because there isn't a ledge.
The room had holes in the wall from doors before they put stoppers on and didn't fix it.
When they cleaned they only replenished the two bath towels each time. We had to constantly phone for wash cloths and water and it took forever with multiple calls.

We spent our time at the adults only pool. David was great and we met some amazing people. Everyone was really great there actually.

There is no entertainment at this resort. By 8 or 9 pm it is pretty much shut down.

Overall, for what is supposed to be a luxury resort, I was expecting it to be comparable to the Excellence but they are far from.

Beware this is a time share property! We were hounded at every turn, even at the pool! One of the time share reps even found me at 2 different pools twice in one day! We did not want to ask any of the employees for help and opted not to go to the spa because of it. It was so bad even one of the servers at the pool joked with us about selling us a time share! We opted not to have the all-inclusive package because we wanted to enjoy some of the wonderful restaurants Cabo has to offer. The food we ate at the resort was eh and overpriced. They charge $3 for a bottle of water, with no free options available. We got room service, it came in a to go box with no forks for our salads. Dirty dishes someone had set out from room service sat out on the table by the elevator for days at a time! We asked the concierge to make us reservations at a nearby restaurant but they never got back to us (although we got another time share pitch while we were there). We did not have soap in our room for the first 2 days. At the adult only pool, the infinity pool was a hot as a jacuzzi and the hot tub was cold! The shuttle to town runs once every 2 hours and is $15 per person round trip, or $7.50 or $8.00 one way, depending on who you talk to. A taxi is $32 to town. Although Ubers aren't allowed on the property, we learned at their downtown location where the shuttle drops you off that they can drive on the property to drop you off. So we opted to take a taxi into town and Uber back which was about the same price in the end and much more convenient. When we made our reservation we booked round-trip private transportation for the airport, but it was a bait and switch. (There was not a one-way option when we booked) The receipt we received only showed that we purchased one way to the resort. We tried contacting the transportation company with no response. We overheard several other people in the lobby realize this problem too as they were leaving for the airport. We just cut the loss and took a taxi to the airport ($90) instead of trying to talk to a hotel rep to get it rectified and get pitched a time share again! And as a last ditch effort when they hunted me down at the pool the last day, they tried to get us to schedule a 20 minute review of our bill and hear about the timeshare. The only reason I gave this property 2 stars instead of one is it was a beautiful property, the room was nice, the maid service was decent with towel service every night and some of the bar servers were very friendly (albeit slow most times).

This resort has an incredible location on the cliffs above the ocean, with stunning views. Food was generally okay at most of the bars and small restaurants, and the restaurant staff and bell staff were very friendly and helpful.

However, some of the dining I’d consider “poor” at best, and would’ve been very unhappy with, had we paid out of pocket for the dining (it was included in our “all-inclusive plan,” a term I’d use pretty loosely at this resort). One example: the food at Mestizo was reported to be incredible (and was included in the premium plan we purchased), but the food, service, and overall experience were lackluster and disappointing. Menu items weren’t available, steaks were undercooked (severely), and the desserts were almost inedible.

The biggest complaint however, was the inconsistent service and false promises from the staff. We paid over $70/night more for the premium all-inclusive plan, with the promise of premium food and alcohol, 24/7 room service, and a free bottle of wine to our room. Over the course of our 4 day stay, room service was not available even ONCE, and the wine was never sent, even after multiple requests to the front desk and concierge. Upon checkout, we were only offered a free taxi to the airport as compensation (a nice gesture, but did not even begin to cover what we paid for).

It’s not the worst place, but I’d choose just about any other resort before visiting here again.

My family and I just returned from a week at this resort. Net net, it was a wonderful time. The accommodations were clean and our 2BR unit had 3 full baths. It was cleaned everyday and all I can say is that housekeeping is 5 Star. Even after we left the premises, housekeeping showed how great they are by finding my son's wallet after we had left and turning it into lost and found so we were able to call and get it shipped back. Our family is very active and we had the best activities director. Jose was professional and gave us honest advise. The excursions were great from the ATV's to the private boat for whale watching as well as golf tee times. The restaurant suggestions were spot on from Flora Farms to Los Tres Gallos in the marina area, he was great. The valet staff was quick to assist you in meeting your tour or getting you a cab. The check in and check out process was very smooth. You have the option of taking the sales tour and I understand they offered some very good monetary incentives if you took them up on their offer.

I would advise you to stay away from the rooftop pool. It is overseen by Assistant Manager Ernesto, he is the most unprofessional, rude and disrespectful manager I have ever encountered in my 50 years of traveling. I personally observed him beratting multiple guests when they attempted to move a chair out of its standard position. There were 100 other ways for him to handle the situation but he took the most aggressive stance. He must have a relative in a fairly high position because he is a perfect example of a person who has risen to the level of his incompetence. After the initial interaction, he remained on the "floor" and made everyone feel very uncomfortable. My family and 3 other families left the pool area and I felt very bad for the wait staff that lost out on business. I suggest some customer relations retraining.

I would 100 percent recommend this resort. The location is very central and the grounds very well kept. I didn't do the all inclusive plan so I can't comment on the value, but we did eat in some of the restaurants and the food was delicious. I hope this was helpful.

Day 1
Got our room floor 2 Building 3, bedding was so damp, walls were running with sweat from humidity. Room smelled moldy. We asked for another room they obliged with floor 3 building 3. Still had a musty smell. In the bathroom toilet paper holder was broken from wall. It appeared it was like this for quite time.
No complete set of towels, hand, and wash etc., lock on patio door was broken, hair dryer didn’t work. Pools were clean, however missing tiles all over. Not at all what we expected for an elite property through Interval.
Day 2-7
Service was very hit and miss at bars and restaurants. Example: breakfast in their nicer restaurant, ordered a mimosa right when we sat down, proceeded to get our omelet and other breakfast items. Came back to table asked where our drinks were, they never came. We asked on our way out. The bartender made them and we had them in clear plastic cups to go.

Found almost everywhere service was extremely slow.
At the adult pool bar ordered a couple beers, waiter took our room number needless to say we never got them. We had to go in the pool and had to get from the bartender in pool.
From the beginning all they wanted to do at the resort was listen to their presentation.
My take was they didn’t care about the guests there, only selling more properties.

Unfortunately they can’t take care of what they have. In my opinion this property barely makes the gold standard for an Interval trade.

On the good side; food choices at the resort, golden zone, and premium drinks were excellent.

We always use Transcabo. You can depart the airport, walk straight by the bar and then usually see a team with Transcabo orange shirts. They can arrange a ride for you in about 10 minutes.

I 100% agree with Robbre B. The resort is very accommodating. I’m sure if you contacted them now about your concerns they would be happy to answer question and be prepared for your visit. The menus at the restaurants we dined in all had gluten free options. Tre marketplace had many choices, as well. Lots of fresh options. You will not be disappointed.

No you cannot walk anywhere just around the complex. If you want to go somewhere you can get a taxi to the Marina where there are shops and restaurants. Depending on traffic takes about 30 mins.
