Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes Golf and Spa earns high marks for its cleanliness, with guests consistently impressed by the pristine conditions of both the rooms and grounds. Nestled in a secluded and picturesque area, the hotel offers a tranquil atmosphere ideal for families, complete with an array of activities and well-received amenities, though some guests note there are additional costs.
While the spacious, well-equipped rooms are a hit, some travelers feel the dining and activities are somewhat overpriced. The service, however, is frequently applauded, with the staff's warmth and professionalism often highlighted.

Solmar Resorts Pacific Dunes is a high-end resort on the Pacific side of the Baja Peninsula. We stayed in a well-appointed, luxurious 1-BR suite on the fourth floor overlooking the various swimming pools and activities of the resort below, with the Pacific Ocean in the background. The weather was in the 70's but the wind on this side of the peninsula was considerably stronger than Cabo facilities on the Sea of Cortez side of the peninsula - which created an unexpected wind chill factor. Food and service at the Anica restaurant were outstanding, and a half dozen smaller snack bars provided less expensive (but still delicious) fast food options. The highlight of our stay, however, was the beach that stretched for miles, with crashing breakers all along the way. Swimming is impossible given the strong under tows of the ocean so very few tourists ventured out to the beach. We ran (sometimes walked) close to an hour every day, several days not encountering another soul -- and it was literally a spiritual experience. If you are a jogger/runner (and your calves can tolerate running in the sand), then Pacific Dunes is a resort to consider.

Your own private paradise! My wife and I are frequent visitors to Cabo, but usually stay in San Jose or Cabo San Lucas. This property/area was new to us, but highly recommended for kids. The resort itself is beautiful, a little windy, but well-manicured grounds and stunning views of the ocean. The lagoon area is perfect for the kids and the slides were absolutely amazing! From the moment we arrived till when we left, our kids played non-stop.
I wanted to personally thank the Solmar team for making our accommodations amazing. We felt like we were home away from home.
I wanted to recognize several of the team members that truly provided amazing hospitality throughout our stay. We felt part of the Solmar family as soon as we entered the property.
• Sebastian & Ramon – Always ready to get the kids a smoothie or the adults a cocktail. Their service, welcoming attitude and just being at our service truly created a special experience.
• Alexis – We had the opportunity to reserve a lagoon bungalow and had Alexis as our person concierge. He was always on hand to offer drinks and snacks, ensuring that my family never had to leave our location. Amazing service! I also wanted to recognize the activity staff. All the activities planned for each day were so much fun, always new, and filled with laughter. The movie, bag toss, bingo – amazing.
We look forward to visiting the property again.
Thanks team!
Thank You, Mike & Stefanie Scherenberg

I recently spent a week at the Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes last week and my stay was amazing!! It was a trip I truly needed for rest and relaxation and that is truly what I did. I spent much of my time at the adult pool at the Sunset Bar and the bar team of Abi, Dany, and El Tio took such great care of me and my friends. The service they provided each day was exceptional!! Every day we came down, they had our towels ready on our pool chairs or in the cabana and knew what we were going to order for drinks pretty much and just provided great conversation and service. There was nothing we needed that we didn’t receive. The entire resort prides itself on providing a level of service that is unmatched. They are quick to resolve any issues and follow up to ensure everything was serviced to our satisfaction. From the front desk staff to the bellman, to the restaurant staff, and housekeeping, you are made to feel welcomed. The food at the various restaurants is tasty and filling. We had a penthouse unit and listening to the waves crashing at night definitely helps your body fall asleep in their cushy beds. I loved this resort and I can honestly say, I can’t wait to come back!

This is a resort I will never return to. There are only 2 restaurants on site, and the location is a 30-45 minute drive to downtown, where most restaurants are in Cabo. Keep that in mind if you plan to make dinner reservations off property… the 30-45 min drive each way got old after several days of doing it.
After 24 hours on property we requested to switch resorts to the sister property closer to downtown. We were denied. Nothing like keeping us in a place we expressed we were unhappy with.
Maybe if we had children this would be a great place, as there is a large lagoon style pool geared towards a “kid friendly” vibe. For us, this was an awkwardly boring place to be most of the time.
The music playing around the resort and pools (if any) can closely be compared to that which is playing in a funeral home. It’s soft, dreary, and simply unappealing.
We saw they offer an “all inclusive package” but with rooms having a full kitchen… it just didn’t make sense. We went to Costco and got booze, food, & snacks. If we bought the all inclusive package we would have been extremely upset… it’s just not worth it. We went off site most of our 7 day for dinners.
We also looked at the menu’s of the 2 restaurants and they looked to be different versions of the same thing. We wanted to be off property as much as possible because it was so boring and the restaurants just didn’t fit what we usually look for.
Pro’s
- Rooms are very spacious and offer a full kitchen
- Beds and accommodations in the room were very comfortable.
Con’s
- Location
- For being so far from anything else, there are only 2 restaurants on site. Neither was worth a dime.
- Awkwardly quiet pools… peace and tranquility is nice, but after several days it’s also nice to have options with different vibes considering there are so many pools.
- Spa is unbelievably overpriced. $500+ for a 110 minute massage.

This was a beautiful hotel. Family friendly and extra security, but with a cost. Stayed in the penthouse that had a large kitchen and common area that was great for the family reunion we had. This was our first time to Cabo and we learned that Cabo is greatly expensive. Side note: I am from San Diego and I would say that Cabo is more expensive then home. If you are expecting Mexico pricing, then do not visit Cabo.
Cons: -it’s far from everything and pricey to get a ride out of there. It would be a $20-30 US one way fee to the grocery store. They do not allow Uber (which is A LOT cheaper) to pick you up because of the security, but you can take Uber on your return trip to the hotel - marketplace was expensive so you need to go to the grocery store which was 15-20 minutes away -the food was decent but you eventually get sick of it. Also it was expensive. Each dish was around $18-30 at the pool and room service -they have a kid activity center that comes with a fee of $30 an hour. The activity center you can leave your child 5-12 years for one hour. You are not allowed to go with your child and hang out. It’s a really nice and fun center, but I’m surprise there is a fee. From my understanding these things are usually included at resorts - our bathtub’s running water was yellow -swimming at the beach is not safe and not recommended Pros: -everyone is friendly and helpful -safe -the kids area at the pool has a lot of kid friendly things such as: slides, beach, water activity area, art’s & craft area -our family really enjoyed ourselves :)

The resort makes a very good first impression when you drive down the extremely long road to get to the entrance. We knew that its' location was outside the action and were looking forward to relaxing by the pool, playing golf, and getting in some spa time. We were not prepared for the state of the beach (far away and filled with sand piles and construction apparatus). Another big negative for us was the noise!! Kids running and jumping in the adult pools, people reserving lounge chairs at 8AM, People ignoring the being considerate of your fellow vacationers by yelling from their balconies, across the pools, across the restaurants. I never once saw an employee say something to any guest nor report it to a supervisor. My husband and I complained several times. I even had to endure a baby crying while getting a massage at the ocean spa. Now for our Grand Studio room. It was anything but grand. It was worn, furniture had major stains, balcony was a joke (small, view of tower, and no cushions on 2 small chairs). Kitchen had everything you needed, but was tiny and dated. Refrigerator froze all our food before we realized it was set to cold. And the noise barrier between rooms was non-existent!!!! We heard every word that our neighbors said: yelling, cursing, fighting, and intimate talk too. We had to turn up the TV loud or put in our noise cancelling headphones to cancel it out. And how many people are allowed in a room? One side had 7 at one point in time. Music was really too loud in some resort locations all day, everyday. The one area where we were very happy was the maid service. They came everyday while we were out and did a great job with what was there to work with. They even replaced the towels I had placed over the stains on the couch and chairs with clean ones. They gave us enough towels, toiletries, toilet paper, and cleaned any dishes we left after cooking. They only slipped up our last day there and forgot bath towels and tissues. We showed them our appreciation with a nice tip. We will not be returning to Grand Solmar Rancho San Lucas again, but not because of the maid service. One last note: we agreed to take the tour and speak with an agent about a timeshare at the resort, but a promise of only taking 90 minutes of our precious vacation time turned into 3 hours and 10 minutes. A round of golf and $100. off at Picaro restaurant is not worth that much time. And after we said no for the hundredth time, the agent got pretty nasty. Hasta la Vista Rancho.........

Dear Guest Ms Blue Good afternoon, on behalf of the Staff that make up the Grand Solmar Rancho San Lucas, we greatly appreciate your visit and comments that you let us know. I want to respectfully respond to that letter sent from your comments so that we can improve in all our aspects, since we like to face continuous improvement and do the best for our guests. With respect to the entrance distance from the road to the Hotel, this area is very beautiful and is a great natural reserve where an area of villas and Real Estate in Growth converge, our spectacular Golf course and our beloved Resort in 776 Acres, which which few places in the Cabos have this size. Our beach is private and has an area of Dunes which is natural and above all allows protection from the Waves since this part of the Pacific is usually Waves and strong current, in times of rain and moonlight the sea can get closer, it is because of that is, a barrier of 100 linear meters separates us from the coast for safety, however we have a beautiful beach 1.5 miles long. Our Development will have 600 Villas and Suites of different sizes in the future, today we have 145. Units. Our concept is a family hotel where all the Staff do their best so that all our guests are happy. I am sorry that I did not meet your expectations in this part, perhaps due to the noise and proximity of the activities area. I want to tell you that we did take your comments into account and we spoke with the guests and families close to your room, requesting that the noise of the children be contained as much as possible, as was reported by security. I understand that we had a failure near the Adults area and I will review this personally so as not to incur more failures, we will continue to reinforce that our guests do not set aside lounge chairs since there is a notice on each umbrella and we have enough spaces for everyone, we have more 500 pieces for the comfort of all guests. I will look at the sales issue right away and we offer you a sincere apology for the part that the Sales area took for your tour, this should not have been. If you decide to give us a try again next year, we will be happy to turn your experience around and will gladly offer booking assistance and personal service. Thank you for your nice comments about our Housekeeping Chambermaid. Once again, I appreciate her visit and I remain at her command, hoping to have the pleasure of receiving her beautiful family again. Sincerely Alexander Ruiz General manager

Rooms were well appointed, property was beautiful, and location with its vast sand dunes felt like we were in a distant, otherworldly location. staff was super accommodating - making my husband French fries one night when they were t on the menu at Bacari. Had a blast with Jorge from the entertainment staff doing lagoonside Zumba and water aerobics. My son won the chess tournament! Such a relaxing vacay. Looking forward to returning!

When you look at this place on the map relative to most other resorts, you may be taken aback. All of the comments about it being a bit remote are legitimate, including the 5+ minute drive from the main highway/resort gate to the hotel itself, but we consider that one of the benefits. The drive to the Cabo Marina is only 25-30 minutes, and a free shuttle is offered to their sister property in downtown Cabo (although the hours didn’t allow us to use it for early excursions). Once you are at the hotel, it is an oasis of calm and quiet with an essentially private beach for as long as we cared to walk in either direction. The drop off is steep with a dramatic surf break so it is not a safe place to swim, but fantastic for wave and whale watching and sunrise/sunset walks. The rooms are immaculate, spacious and well appointed, including a full kitchenette if you want a break from the expensive restaurant scene in the area. We did dine at several of the on-site restaurants, which were all excellent with typical (high) prices. Breakfast at Anica was particularly good. There are many options for pools, hot tubs, and various outdoor seating areas. The whole complex is so large that we never felt crowded or like we were competing for spots at restaurants or along the pool. Similarly, children are allowed, but never felt intrusive. We barely noticed them because they have their own large area to have fun. There is a bit of orientation required the first day or so due to the resort size and multiple levels (it is built on a hill). This is a particularly good resort if you plan to spend most of your time here rather than doing offsite dining or adventures. You could easily just settle in here for four or five days, especially if you golf or take advantage of the daytime or evening activities offered (we did not). Birdwatching along the shore and up the hill was pretty good, including resident great horned owls, and we saw many whales right from the beach. About the only thing we didn’t like was the sales pitch to attend a session about buying a residence/timeshare there, which came right after check in. This pressure was not what we needed at the end of a long day getting there, setting a bad tone which fortunately was easy to recover from. Overall a very relaxing and luxurious experience. We would definitely go back.

We love this place! A family friendly location in a safe and secluded area. Lots of daily activities and a wonderful Entertainment team. Diego and Sammy spent hours playing and having fun with our kids (ages 5yr & 7yrs). These two gentleman are phenomenal with positivity and energy. Yes there is a kids club, but no we didn’t try it.
There are two water slides, a splash pad area, a rope swing into a salt water lagoon and other swimming pools - water activities for every age. Very attentive pool wait staff can bring food/beverages directly to your lounge area.
Anika is the main restaurant we dined at. Except for 1 slow experience, it has been wonderful. Breakfast is our favorite there!! Some items to try: French toast with coconut sauce, scrambled eggs with ranchero sauce on fresh tortillas, Yucatán lime soup and the braised short ribs with garlic mashed potatoes. If by the pool, the grilled shrimp tacos and guacamole are delicious!
Rooms are well decorated and very comfortable. The Murphy bed could use a bit thicker mattress. Good water pressure in showers! Blow dryer and safe provided.
Beach is white sand - a little rocky in spots but can sit and watch the waves roll in. Bring a kite if you have room in your suitcase - a light breeze and lots of fun.
Such a great location for relaxing and fun vacation! Highly recommended!

We had a great stay at Grand Solmar Rancho San Lucas-- we were pleasantly surprised to find it very popular with families with younger children and our girls (ages 3 & 5) were thrilled to make friends and play together in the pools. We stayed in a master suite (33404) and found our room to be beautiful aesthetically with plenty of storage for our things and very spacious. We were very happy with our room and location. Our girls loved the pools and slides and the small play structure that was right outside our room. They enjoyed the kids programming at the pool with Esmerelda and Nirvana, especially. My one and only complaint, if you can even call it that, is the lack of food options. We did the meal plan and while I definitely think it was well worth the cost, with only two restaurants and only one for breakfast by the end of our stay we were becoming a little bored with the options. The pool bar menus are also pretty repetitive and mirror the room service menu so just not many options at all. I was also surprised to find that no champagne or prosecco was included with the meal plan, and neither is ice cream. All of that said we had wonderful service at Anica from Mari, Brenda and Alfredo, at Bacari from Kenya and from Nohemy at Tide Bar and all of the servers at the main pool were wonderful. You do need to have patience though as things are definetely done on "vacation-time" the deli/cafe was especially slow. We highly recommend the La Kermes night at Bacari as it was by far our favorite dinner of the week. The resort as a whole is very quiet at night and unlike many of the Mexico resorts or Caribbean places we have traveled there is no bar, live music or any nightlife at this resort. The beach and some of the pools could be very very windy and chilly so pack accordingly. We found the main pool to be the warmest as the buildings seemed to block the strong winds. We used the resort shuttle to visit Lands End one day, and walked to the marina, it was fine to break up the stay and get a change of scenery but we overall felt the Rancho San Lucas property was much nicer and a better fit for our family.
