Kimpton Tres Rios is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and live entertainment, although some guests believe certain areas appear outdated. The resort's cleanliness and well-maintained rooms are often commended, nestled in a location praised for its natural beauty and tranquility. While the array of amenities, including family activities and nature tours, receives positive recognition, some visitors have raised concerns about the value, citing hidden costs and pricey services.
The attentive and professional staff consistently earns acclaim, even though occasional service inconsistencies are noted. Despite ongoing renovations, the construction noise is generally not seen as a significant disruption to the guest experience.

Detailed Reviews
This resort was wonderful. This hotel was beautiful and eco friendly. They are fully organic and all left over buffet food goes into a compost. I would suggest this place more for families and older people. They have a wonderful selection of activities to do on the resort and have transportation and available activities to leave the resort. The food was very kid friendly. The reason I would not suggest this as a couples getaway is that there is not much to do after 9/9:30 p.m. and the bars on the resort all close at 11 p.m. Room service is also limited. They are very far from the hotel zone where all the bars are and only offer one trip in the evening to coco bongo. No nearby public transportation like around the hotel zone. And personally I rather the surrounding bars around coco bongo. And I was not very fond of the animals around the resting areas. However it was cool to see some different regional animals.

It's my second year at Hacienda Tres Rios and both experiences exceeded my expectations. I came with Herencia time share owners and the level of service and attention to detail by the staff really showed as a result. Last year was pretty tough for the resort as they had to shut down for several months and operate in a reduced staffing level. I knew that going into Cancun just four days after they reopened. I expected things to be < 100% peak operating quality due to the fact that they were just trying things out to see if it would work. Some things were rough but we got past it and towards the end of the week they really shined. These were minor things that did not affect the overall quality of the stay so I really do commend them for trying their best.
The accommodations were magnificent. We booked a 3 bedroom suite that was extremely spacious with views that overlooked the ocean. The rooms were stocked daily with beverages, snacks, fresh fruit and coffee. The house keeping staff came by daily to change out linens and made special designs on the duvet covers. The walk in shower is huge and the bathroom was stocked with hand sanitizer, toiletries such as toothbrush, lotion and body wash. All rooms had a 70" TV with apple TV hooked up so you can mirror your phone.
This year all 6 restaurants were open so we made sure to have dinner reservations at each of them. The most memorable restaurant was Portobello where the finest dining is to be enjoyed. Be sure to dress nice for this one because the place is intimate and great for pictures. The food never disappointed and even during the pandemic the resort chefs continued to cook the most delicious and visually appealing dishes that you can imagine. This includes the lobster specialty dinner which requires prior reservations. The second favorite was Hacienda grill for their ceviche, seafood soup and beef kabobs. When I need a pick me up I would visit the dessert shop and get an espresso. I could live here forever and not leave.
When we're not at the restaurants enjoying the fine dining, the memory makers (Ana, Isaac, Roberto) were the ones keep us active whether it's at the pool for aqua gym, on a segway for a tour of the resort, mid day workouts, or beach volleyball. They're the ones that kept us in shape the entire week by being enthusiastic and motivational. Thanks for all your hard work in making our stay magical.

We truly loved it from beginning to end.
The cenotes and soft water streams allowed us to swim daily in clear water with several types of fish. We therefore did not feel the need to spend on tours to out-of-the resort cenotes.
The 132 acres allows it to be perfectly quiet, no noise from the road or nearby attractions.
Guides are friendly and competent.
We especially appreciated Jimmy, our guide for the bike tour to the mangrove and cenotes. Having worked in the jungle for National Geographic, he knows plenty about the jungle, fauna and flora. Look for him.
Raul was our Hobby Cat captain on the water, we liked him.
Food was truly excellent in the buffet, with much diversity.
I liked the fact that the specialty restaurants did not need reservations, the food was OK in these.
The personnel was generally very friendly.
Really, everything we needed, from beginning to end.
Would come back!

I stayed at Tres Rios for a week with friends. This was not my first visit. The grounds are beautiful with the lovely jungle atmosphere. For an all-inclusive, the food was great. The best items were the poblano soup and the tortilla soup. The rooms are well appointed and well maintained. The staff was mostly helpful. COVID-19 practices were reassuring. Now for the except. The only location to get beach towels was at least a quarter mile from the rooms, down by the lower pool area. While designating one pool as adults only is a very attractive amenity, there was no shady area by it at all. There is no quiet place around any of the poo,s during the day. The music from the lower pool could be heard even In the rooms. The all inclusive rate of $80 per day is steep. Add to that a $7 per day sanitation fee which is uncalled for. Owner services told us it did not include the day we were leaving. Upon check out at 11 AM the desk clerk told us we had all inclusive until 3:00. Since we were leaving at 11:30, that did us no good and we left without having breakfast. We were delivered a complementary plate of fruit, chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of champagne but not until two days before we were to depart. We planned to have the strawberries and champagne the next night. But housekeeping removed the strawberries from our room the day after they were delivered. The worst thing was the adult beverages. Apparently, they use sugar substitute on the simple syrup and drink mixes. That made most of the drinks completely un-drinkable. Not to mention how bad those chemicals are for humans to consume. Tres Rios deserves a 4 or 5 rating, but with so many small deficiencies piled upon each other, even a 2 rating is a stretch.

We went during covid and had a great experience.
pros:
1. Entertainment Crew, Ana, Diego, Alex, Raul, Manual did an amazing job keeping our family of 5 active and involved. Ana always went out of her way to make sure we had fun. Alex took us on a bike tour and made sure our 11 year old was safe because bikes were big for him. Raul took them on a segway tour. Diego took us kayaking and yoga/stretching and manual also did yoga.
2. Room service, my kids ordered several times a day and always had hot food within 30 minutes.
3. Pizza Place one of my family’s favorite go-to for a quick bite
4. Pool Bar was amazing with Eduardo and Ekum who always remembered our drinks or gave us great ones to try. Ekum moved to room service during our stay. He is a very hard worker but we missed him at the bar.
5. Maid service was perfect, quick, and efficient.
6. we took a snorkel tour in caribbean sea $50 per person that was well worth it. Pato took us to reefs and helped us find lobster, eel, tons of fish and sea urchents. We bought his photos and aren’t disappointed.
7. we booked ATV/Zipline/Cenote trip with Mayan Adventure that was spectacular.
8. food was decent but thrilled my picky kids tried new things and found some favorites to satisfy them. I loved that even though all restaurants aren’t open, they changed the menu every night so it was new choices.
9. super clean and never worried about covid.
cons:
1. at another resort we stayed at last year had a VIP option where you could order top shelf alcohol. maybe offer an upgrade per person package and make some extra $ for the resort while pleasing customers
2. ordering dinner snafu with waiters using a device that was tricky. put barcodes on the menu and the waiter can scan the barcode with quick and no errors. They worked so hard but ordering using spanish side of the menu was easier. even if you mispronounce it, they help you learn.
3. gym was closed (Mexico rule during covid) but we took advantage of yoga and aerobics etc.
TIP TIP TIP. They have been out of work during covid and many are alternating weeks to give others a chance to work during the 30% capacity. they work very hard and if you can afford to travel during a pandemic, give extra to those less fortunate that are helping you have the best time possible.

Another memorable vacation at Hacienda Tres Rios. We were spoiled by Mauricio and Janelly who handled any request, made reservations for us and met every need. Also, we got special attention from Andy and Isabel as well as Patricia, all experienced Concierges.
We so enjoy the many restaurants, all of which have efficient, friendly servers, and the food never disappoints. Juan at Portobello was excellent and took time to answer questions about menu selections and also very knowledgeable about Mexican wine which we prefer; also the supervisor over the servers was extremely good at is job (we don't know his name), but he went out of his way to make Portobello a favorite experience. Luis at Alebrije was so nice and served us a delicious dinner, and Melody, the hostess, was an added delight. Miguel and Beatrice at Hacienda Grill made lobster night so enjoyable; they are efficient and friendly, making a special meal better than even expected. Nataly, Joachim and Antonio at the Pizzeria were familiar faces and always friendly and helpful. The hostesses and servers at Casa Las Islas are All Top-Notch at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We also enjoyed seeing Ishmael again at the Grill for breakfast as he seems to know what we want..
It was great seeing Filberto and Santiago at the beach and poolside, always working hard to serve drinks; also David and Jorge were onboard too. David, the aqua aerobics instructor, was really good and pushed us just enough, but not over the top. Also, Absalom at the Terrace Bar, took good care of us in late afternoon and at happy hour.
Everyone works so diligently in housekeeping, and Darvelia did an excellent job keeping our suite immaculate.
Getting a wonderful massage by Alina was so enjoyable and relaxing. We got to meet Erick, Capt. of the porters, and we expressed to him our appreciation for their services.
This is our sixth year at HTR, and we have nothing but good things to say about this beautiful resort and all the outstanding staff and personnel at all levels!

Overall we enjoyed first our stay at Hacienda Tres Rios Resort. The secluded location of the resort and being surrounded by a beautiful nature landscape made for much relaxation and enjoyment for us. The housekeeping staff was by far the best we’ve ever experienced. They kept our room impeccably clean and well stocked with drinks and fresh linens. Thank you so much Estella! The restaurant and room service staff were wonderful as well. There are many different varieties to cater to all types of taste. Thank you Berenice and Gilberto for all your friendly service! Thankfully we were able to participate in taking our girls once on the river kayak tour, even though we nearly missed out due to unaccommodating concierge staff. Thank you Beto and Chris for a fun and enjoyable ride!
With all of that said there are some things to consider when staying here:
(1.) Children under under the age of 4 are not able to participate in any of the exploration activities. They do not even have bikes available for most average size kids under 12 to use as well.
(2.) They seem to highly favor the resort owners to an extent we have never experienced before. Getting an available spot to book any of the activities was a big struggle. They stated they reserve nearly all the spots for owners and even if you reserve a spot it can be taken away if an owner decides they want your spot.
(3.) Most of the staff at the Concierge and Front Desk are very rude and very unaccommodating which makes activities during your stay challenging. They would also try to leverage activities that are included in the all inclusive stay to bribe you to take the tour.
(4.) The main beach on the property is not usable due to an overload of seaweed that smells terribly and they do not clean. Over the bridge there is a smaller beach that they do clean but under non covid circumstances it seems it may only be open to owners.
(5) The rooms stay on the warmer side. The AC is locked so you can’t lower the temperature and there are no fans.
It isn’t likely that we would stay here again but we tried to make the most of our family vacation and we left satisfied overall.

We loved our week at Hacienda Tres Rios, our family enjoyed the beautiful grounds, wild animals and activities. The staff was friendly, check in was quick and easy. The kids enjoyed playing in the clear rivers and exploring the natural grounds. A few of the outstanding staff that deserve mentioning are Raul from water sports, Jeorge, beach wait staff and Alma at Cafe Paris. The food was good, the restaurants do not require reservation - which made the vacation much more relaxing not having to rush the kids from their activities to make a dinner reservation. And the free 24 hour room service was an amazing perk! The resort was at 100% capacity but didn't feel crowded, there were always beach chairs and pool chairs available and wait times were short at the restaurants.

When we stay at a resort, or a hotel for that matter, we look for accommodations that are clean, quiet, and comfortable. La Hacienda Tres Rios fits the bill in all regards. Our suite was spacious with all amenities you need. For those that don’t like to live out of their suitcase, closet space was ample with dresser drawers throughout the bedroom.
This wasn’t our first time at the resort. The pandemic has placed some restrictions on the buffet choices but provides a reasonable selection. For noting, the Japanese Restaurant (Kotori) menu has substantially improved with a better selection of rolls, sashimi, and negeri. They have also added a hibachi which seats 10 people which was entertaining. The Mexican Restaurant (Alebrije) has an improved menu with great chicken mole and many more items to choose from. One of the more intimate restaurant atmospheres is in the Italian cuisine, Portobello. Francisco is a top notch server, always friendly and accommodating.
The resort offers activities beyond the typical pool games which we took advantage of such as a tour of their nursery, bike tour of the resort, Segway tour, and our favorite, snorkeling in one of the many cenotes and along one of the three small rivers/creeks that lead to the beach.
The staff was very friendly and willing to fulfill our requests. In particular, Christian did a fabulous job leading us on our nursery tour. He was informative and able to answer all my questions about the various plantings throughout the resort. Giberto from Room Service provided anything we requested in a timely manner, and of course Mireya from Café Paris who made sure my stomach was always filled with my favorite treats: ice cream and arroz con leche. The café was our favorite hangout after a fabulous nightly show in the resort’s amply sized theater. The café has a variety of cookies, pastries and gelato to choose from.
Luis and Edgar, who shuttling our drink requests at the pool, were exceptionally friendly and always willing to stop and chat with us. All waiters at the restaurants were friendly, but worth noting are Berenice, Ishmael, and Concepcion. The staff was consistently trying very hard to please us and get us anything we desired.
The concierge, specifically, Janelly, Daniel, and Gabriel were highly accommodating and helpful. They were always available to tend to our every need and answer any questions, in addition to arranging the mandatory Covid test that is needed in order to fly back to the States. Additionally, restaurant reservations, airline reservations, shuttle services and reserving pool or beach lounges were just another sample of their abilities to make us feel comfortable and at ease.
In summary, Hacienda Tres Rios is a resort that covers all of your needs and then some. It is an eco-friendly place to relax, decompress and refuel.

This was our first visit to Hacienda tres Rios with our family of 4 (6 year olds and 2 yo) and 2 friends. We used RCI timeshare swap.
Pros:
The 2 bedroom suite is spacious and well set up for families. The master bathroom area is huge and easily accommodates a crib in a dark area. Worked great for our 2 yo.
Staff is wonderful, kind, accommodating, friendly. Especially appreciated Anna who gave us wonderful biking and kayaking tours of the nature park on the grounds. Filberto is Excellent and goes out of his way to be attentive at the pool. Jessica, Alfonso, and Miguel were our favorite waiters.
We loved the far side of the beach which had calm warm and clear water. As others have said the closer side of the beach is full of seaweed but still nice.
Food overall was excellent and better than expected for an all inclusive. Especially enjoyed the churrascaria night at the grille. Skip the pizza (we are New Yorkers so admittedly the bar is high). Cocktails are decent but generally overly sweet.
Cons:
There could be more activities for the kids. Daniela does a wonderful job with ceramics but it’s fairly pricey and there aren’t other arts and crafts available. Would also be great to have more sports activities for the kids. Mini golf is a bit run down and no other organized sports.
Would be helpful if lunch started at 11:30 and dinner 5:30 as 12 pm and 6 pm were a little late for our kids.
The wine is quite terrible and only beer available is Corona.
Overall we found this to be a great spot for a family vacation. The resort is immaculate and kept up by the wonderful staff who go out of their way to create a lovely vacation experience.
