We had a super relaxing week at Coral Mar Resort in Cancun. Be aware that the resort is on a lagoon, not the beach like the big hotels in the Hotel zone, but this is what we were looking for. We stayed in a 1 bedroom third floor condo, super clean and comfortable. Our unit faced the water so we watched the sunrise every morning while eating breakfast. Most of our meals we ate were in the Los Chefs restaurant, which is on site. Jonas, Alex and head chef Nora made us feel like family serving us drinks and custom meals daily, we will return to Coral Mar because of their fantastic customer service. The resort also has a tour company onsite, Raul the manager made booking tours very easy. All taxi roundtrips into Cancun will cost about $20 USD so a rental car would be helpful, parking is free at Coral Mar. If your idea of a Cancun vacation is hanging around a pool, reading and enjoying drinks without kids running around then Coral Mar is the ideal place to be.

Coral Mar is a beautiful small resort. We were very comfortable in our 2 bedroom 2 bath unit (see attached photos). We were in unit 51 which was first floor with a patio and a beautiful view. Erika our housekeeper kept our unit spotless all week and made birds out of the towels. All of the staff are exceptionally friendly and will help in any way. We set up three tours through Raul. We loved the Chichen Itza and Xcaret! trips. The catamaran trip to Isla de Mujeres was okay but snorkeling was murky and we just weren’t impressed with the island. Just not for us.
The restaurant is open 12 to 8. We had 3 meals there and the food was very good. We enjoyed a few happy hours which are every day 12-2 and 5-7. Two drinks are 105 pesos - quite the deal!
It was very convenient having the mini mart with reasonable prices next door. We did one grocery shopping trip to Selecto which is a huge well stocked store. Make sure you tip the baggers who are senior citizens who don’t get paid an hourly wage. The taxi to Selecto costs 170 pesos each way. The Coral Mar staff will give you a list of what taxi prices should be from Coral Mar which is very helpful. You can also walk about a mile through a nice residential neighborhood and catch the city bus for 12 pesos.
We enjoyed the heated pool and relaxing on the beach chairs in the sand. There were always plenty of lounge chairs available.
It was a pleasure coming back to Coral Mar each evening. It was so peaceful it felt like we were coming home.

As a WIVC member for many years, we have always booked vacations at the Puerto,Vallarta properties. This was our first experience in Cancun since our last visit to the city in the early 80’s. First and foremost, Coral Mar is a wonderfully maintained, quiet complex far from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Our unit 32 was a one bedroom with close access to the pool and a grand view of the lagoon. We were excited to have a restaurant on site after reading all the great reviews. Unfortunately, the restaurant is now run by new management! The menu is limited, service very sloooow, closes at 5 PM, and the alcoholic drinks are not very good. It is very unfortunate since the location of the resort has a captive audience since no other restaurants are in the immediate area. A convenient fully stocked mini market is great for immediate needs. The travel agency on site is fantastic. All excursions can be booked through it and transportation available from door to door. I would definitely suggest booking airport transportation through them at $99 for round trip service for up to four people. A taxi one way is $85! As for taxi service, forget about it! Uber is the way to go with considerably cheaper fares and great service. You can always depend on the young ladies in reception who have great restaurant recommendations. We really enjoyed El Fish Fritanga…great location on the water and amazing menu. A fantastic excursion was the Columbus dinner cruise. Delicious food, unlimited drinks, great entertainment, and exceptional crew. We were glad to experience the resort, and Cancún, in general, but we are back to Puerto Vallarta next time!

This was one of the best stays I have had. The staff was so amazing. I had the very best view of the bay and city across the bay. It was quiet and cozy. The room was very comfy and spacious. Their cafe on the premises was divine because the staff there was so into organic and sustainable living. They serve only local and organic foods , therefore, they let you know that NOTHING comes out very fast, as they make it as you order and only keep enough food on the premises from day to day so they have no food go bad as well as keep freshness for you. Coral Mar also offered adventure tours in which I would have never done had they not offered such a great deal to partake in. They helped you to find your own personal tours as well. They were very supportive in helping you arrange taxis and other services. Raul is the best manager ever! The staff was awesome. The chefs of the cafe and bar were super fantastic all around. I will be back to them more and more

Cheers,
Isabella Lynnette . :-)

I'm not sure what the rates are , since I was a guest for someone who had a timeshare. But the stay was very nice. The staff at the front desk was excellent at all hours. They weren't TOO pushy when it came to selling their 'packages' it was optional to attend a 'meeting to save money on things to do.'

It wasn't crazy loud or anything. They had a pool table for free use.

My only complaint would be the wifi was not great - after a long day I just wanted to relax and watch something on my fire stick, but I couldn't due to the bad internet. And another which is getting picky was that the lighting on the pool table area was not great at night. Or rather non-existant. There was light from the nearby restroom if you open the door, but that's about it.

It is what it is. Exactly as their description says. A couple of things to note.

This is not a resort. It’s a timeshare condominium with a pool and a restaurant which is operated separately from the restaurant. (The restaurant owners are very nice.) As such, there are really no resort like amenities.

There is a first day orientation which I recommend skipping unless you want to use the travel service for excursions.

They offer a “free” museum and tequila tasting excursion. I recommend skipping it since it really is a way to get tequila in you in the hopes of selling you tequila and jewelry is a fairly pressured environment.

You are an easy taxi ride away from either central Cancun for a more local flair or the hotel zone which is very active. Costs fluctuate during the day from $15 one way for a car to $50 one way for a van in the evening.

One very negative. Checkout is 10 and they mean 10 before 10. An extraordinarily odd checkout time and zero chance for a late checkout even with a fee.

So bottom line. You have a room, pool, bar(maybe), and a great view. The most positive element is the staff who are all extremely nice.

I knew this resort would be quiet and off the beaten path going in - but it was much more isolated than I expected. It's in a residential area by a golf course and takes about 25 minutes to walk to the main road and there's not much near there without walking further or taking a bus or taxi. I would have been happy staying at the resort to eat and drink, but the bartender, while very sweet, is the world's slowest (or forgets your drink altogether) and basic snack food like fish tacos and nachos was both slow to arrive and terrible. In addition, if you wanted to eat breakfast or dinner you had to order 24 hours in advance. The bar plays "yacht rock" (80's classics) on an endless loop. It was fun the first day, but got old quickly.

I'm not usually one to complain about wifi while on vacation, but the wifi speed was one of the worst I've seen in years, so made researching the area extremely time consuming (I tested it, it was 1-2 MBPS, practically a dial-up modem speed).

I will say the front desk staff were outstanding, the resort itself was very clean and they took very good precautions against Covid. However, my bed was hard as a rock and the buzz of the air conditioners at night outside my window made it very difficult to sleep at night.

The lagoon view was very nice, but again I missed being so far from the actual beach. There were no amenities other than a pool and the beach chairs facing the lagoon.

I would not stay at this resort again.

We had a really fantastic stay at Coral Mar! We were here for a full week and the whole process was really smooth. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, and there was someone there 24 hours a day to help. All of them also speak very good English, which is great for international travelers like us. Our room was ready on time, very spacious and clean. When we had some issues with the bathrooms we were assisted promptly. The grounds and common areas were very clean and well-kempt. We loved the pool and beach areas, and especially the staff at Los Chefs! Jonas welcomed us to the resort on our first day and we loved chatting with him each day. The food at the restaurant was delicious (and convenient), and we loved being able to walk down for a drink or bite to eat whenever we needed. The market next door is also SUPER convenient, and parking was ample and easy. We loved our stay!! Would definitely recommend.

We have traveled a lot through our relationship with RCI, but Coral Mar, and their tour and transportation personnel, as well as the Coral Mar site personnel themselves made our stay one of the best ever. Very friendly, helpful, to name only a few, Erika, Raul, Carlos* and Nora* from the onsite restaurant (Rest. Los Chefs) really helped us feel "connected" on our first trip to Mexico and Cancun in particular. Definitely hoping to be able to return to this wonderful location. Tom & Ellen NYC, NY
