Nestled in a tranquil, secluded setting, Waldorf Astoria Cancun receives accolades for its sophisticated and luxurious atmosphere. Guests are enchanted by the spacious and opulent rooms, although a few have mentioned minor issues such as leaks and odors. The service stands out as a highlight, with many guests commending the professional and personalized attention they receive.
Despite its pristine cleanliness and indulgent amenities like the pools and spa, some travelers feel the steep prices do not always equate to value, particularly when it comes to dining. The hotel's isolated location offers privacy but requires travel for local exploration.

The hotel is in a great location, reasonably close to the airport, but far from the hustle and bustle of the hotel zone. Although there are other hotels that share the same beach, we rarely saw anyone from other hotels, so we felt secluded - in a very good way. If you are looking to walk to nightlife and lots of other restaurants, this is not your place. From what we could tell, guests (like us) seemed very content to stay on campus, taking the occasional taxi either down the coast to Puerto Morelos (where we went and had a nice dinner) or up to Cancun. Another thing - because the hotel is somewhat isolated, it can be tough to get a ride to where you want to go. We wanted to take an Uber or Didi to Playa del Carmen for an afternoon, but there were no drivers willing to pick us up and take us there. But we went to Puerto Morelos one afternoon and Cancun another and most definitely enjoyed it. The facilities are world-class, some of the best we have seen in a while. Everything is clean, new and impeccably maintained. Even the beach is raked with some frequency to remove seaweed. Our room (more in a bit) was amazing and well-stocked with water and coffee. The fitness center was great and the common areas very pleasant. The food was much better than I had anticipated (I give it a 9 out of 10). We had dinner the first night in Malpeque and had an excellent grilled fish with some outstanding sides and starters. We had dinner at Ja'o the second night and the experience was, although not perfect, very pleasant. I had the pork belly tacos which were outstanding. My wife had the flor de calabaza tacos which were not great. But she mentioned that to the manager of the restaurant, who apologized profusely, explaining it was a new menu item, and took that charge off of the bill - something she didn't have to do and something we did not ask for. Breakfast every morning was very good and the service was, like everywhere else on the property, world class. Which brings me to the part of a hotel stay that can make or break a vacation - the people. And the Waldorf really stood out there. Everyone was exceptionally helpful and kind and happy to go the extra mile to make our stay better. Bravo Waldorf. We checked in and were not overjoyed with our room, but were moved to an amazing one, which was the icing on the cake for an extremely memorable (but brief - 4 night) stay. The front desk handled this perfectly and it was incredibly appreciated. One thing I will mention: an "ocean front" room is more like an "ocean view" room in most hotels. You can see the ocean, but it is not straight-on and you are mostly going to be looking over pools and bars to see it...unless you get a corner suite, which has a full-on in-your-face view of the ocean, along with a kitchen, dining room, living room and pool table. That is the room we will book next time - and there will be a next time. So once again - Bravo Waldorf-Astoria Cancun for a job extremely well done!

First time at this resort...it truly has a luxurious atmosphere from the moment you pull up. The property is stunning. The lobby was still decorated for Christmas - it all took my breath away.
Our corner suite was large and super impressive. It had a king master suite and a separate living room area with a full kitchen and pool table, plus a connecting 2-queen suite. For our family of 5, it made our stay extra fun and relaxing. I highly recommend this option for larger families. The rooms were ultra clean - I'd like to note that the housekeeping staff did a fabulous job during our stay and was at a different level of professionalism than we've witnessed at other high-end resorts.
From setting up our chairs at the pool to drink/food service, the service staff went above and beyond to take care of us - two names I'd like to draw attention to: Armando in the lobby bar and Luus (I think that's how he spelled it) at the pool. They both really stood out to us as they worked hard, made us feel extra special and had great, engaging personalities! With that said, we had incredible experiences with every staff member. No complaints - service was top notch!
Reasons for 4 stars instead of 5: location - it's too isolated for our liking, the pool was cold with not a lot of areas for sunning around the pool (too many trees shading the area), and the beach - it was much smaller than what we've experienced at other Cancun locations.

We had a relaxing trip to the Cancun Waldorf Astoria. Having previously stayed at the Conrad in Tulum, we returned to the WA for its convenient proximity to the airport. The hotel is architecturally stunning and impeccably maintained, but it’s the staff that truly made our stay exceptional. Every team member was warm, attentive, and professional.
Notably, the staff at Chaya and the lobby bar provided outstanding service.
We also took two of Astor’s fitness classes—yin yoga/meditation and mat Pilates—both of which were excellent. Astor skillfully adapted movements to accommodate individual physical limitations, ensuring a personalized and inclusive experience. The calm I felt after the yoga/meditation session lasted all day. I took the mat class twice, and each session was completely unique. I regret not taking advantage of these classes during our previous visit—perhaps better promotion about the availability of exercise and other activities would be helpful.
Ruben and the concierge team were incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and helpful throughout our stay.
Note to self: Plan a snorkeling trip early in the week, as wind-related cancellations disrupted our plans twice.
Our room was spotless and a joy to return to each day, thanks to Paula’s meticulous attention to detail.
The bellmen were also outstanding—helpful, professional, and even checking the van and taxi after unloading to ensure we hadn’t left anything behind. Antonio, in particular, brought laughter to every interaction.
I hope to return.

We stayed at this hotel with our family of three last month. The location felt isolated—about 10 minutes from the gate to the main lobby and an hour to Playa del Carmen, where you can shop, dine, and take a ferry to Cozumel.
While all rooms face the ocean, the hotel upgraded us to a room with the ocean view on a higher floor (6th) with the same room size, aligning with my diamond status. However, I'm not sure how this was considered an upgrade since all rooms face the ocean. The room had a small plunge pool on the balcony, but it had a sewer smell, so we didn’t use it. It also took over 10 minutes for hot water, and we noticed a leak at the balcony door during a rainy day. I called three times, but received no answer, so my husband went to the lobby to report the issue. In the end, we decided to stay in the room since it was already bedtime.
We had dinner and breakfast at Chaya. As many have noted, the prices are on the higher side, but the dinner was decent—perhaps my expectations were low after reading many negative reviews. The breakfast was fine the first day, but I felt the menu options were limited on the second day. Juan, our server for breakfast on the first day, was witty and friendly. We also enjoyed a couple’s massage, with excellent service from Alehandra. Special thanks to bellmen Manuel and Antonio for their efficient and friendly service.

My husband and I just completed a 4 day stay at the new Waldorf Astoria. There were many great things about this hotel. First, many thanks to Frank, the pool concierge for always being helpful throughout our stay. He always made us feel welcome at the pool, and made sure all of our needs were met. In addition, he also ensured we had 2 perfect seats while watching the Chiefs playoff last night. Alahondra, the welcome manager, for following up throughout our stay to make sure everything was perfect. Enrique in Chaya restaurant at our first dinner arriving at the report, making sure every dish was perfect and water glasses never empty. Lastly, I do not have the name of the gentleman who went out of his way to get make up brushes from an outside store since I forgot all of mine.
Here are the pros of this hotel: 1. Attentive service-every since person is eager is please, and if they do not have something at the moment, they will find it for you 2. Well appointed rooms-We had a suite with 2 bathrooms, 8 table top dining room, walk in closet, and an outdoor bathtub/hot tub. Very comfortable beds 3. Pool was heated, and faced the ocean 4. Spa-massages were amazing, the outdoor space with pool, hot tub, lounge chairs was very relaxing. I would recommend going several hours before your massage
Cons: 1. Sargrassum is very abundant. The staff works very hard to clean it throughout the day, and the hotel has placed netting out in the ocean to minimize it. Although the hotel can not control what mother nature produces, there are other locations in MX that have much better water front. 2. 3 restaurants. This could be ok, however, 2 of them have the same menu for lunch and dinner. We only stayed 3 nights, so it was perfect for us, however, I could see the menu becoming redundant if staying for a full week. Also, this is a new hotel, so maybe it is limited due to making sure all food is prepared perfectly?
Overall great resort, but taking one star off due to lack of beach/nice water, and lack of variety of food options for those who stay for a week long vacation. For those who enjoy the pools, attentive service, and spectacular rooms, this is a wonderful choice!!

We decided to spend the weekend at this hotel, drawn by its recent opening and attractive architectural design. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of our expectations. Despite being an expensive hotel, the services and facilities are nowhere near what one would expect from a luxury experience.
We encountered torn towels, a jacuzzi with a non-functional hot water system, and worn-out, uncomfortable beach loungers. The beach itself is very small and not ideal for enjoying the surroundings. The dining options were very limited, with little variety or noteworthy quality.
This hotel is also not suitable for families with children. It lacks a kids’ club and doesn’t offer activities or entertainment options for children, especially on cloudy days when staying in the room becomes particularly challenging. On top of that, there is a construction site next to the hotel, and the constant noise made it impossible to relax or rest properly.
In summary, while the architectural design has potential, the lack of attention to detail, poor service, and overall disappointing experience do not justify the high cost. We wouldn’t recommend it.

From the moment my wife and I arrived at the Waldorf Astoria Cancun, we were captivated by its striking architecture and inviting design. It’s easy to see why the designer and staff refer to it as the “kingdom of the seas,” as every curve and detail of the property radiates luxury, seamlessly blending contemporary elegance with the natural beauty of the Caribbean coast. This meticulous craftsmanship extends throughout the resort, creating a sanctuary that immediately put us at ease.
Adding to the idyllic ambiance is the staff’s genuine hospitality. Javier greeted us at our car like a long-lost family friend, instantly setting the tone for a memorable stay. Emilio provided an effortless check-in experience, showcasing impressive knowledge of the property while making us feel right at home. And every morning, we eagerly looked forward to breakfast thanks to Louis’s friendly smile and exceptional service.
One of the true delights of staying at the Waldorf Astoria Cancun is its peaceful location outside the bustling hotel zone. If you don’t feel like hopping in a car, the property’s natural surroundings are all you need. Enjoy a leisurely stroll on the pristine, beautifully walkable beach, or wander through the on-site mangrove nature preserve where you might spot foxes, turkey vultures, and even monkeys on an amazing morning walk. This immersive experience perfectly complements the resort’s calming atmosphere.
After countless vacations, my wife and I can honestly say this was the most relaxed and comfortable we’ve ever felt. The only minor downside? If you plan to cuddle on the balcony under the stars, be sure to pack some mosquito spray. Despite that small detail, the Waldorf Astoria Cancun truly earns its moniker as the “kingdom of the seas”—a luxurious oasis we can’t wait to revisit.

My wife and are on the flight home after spending eight blissful days at the new Waldorf Astoria Cancun. We were originally scheduled for seven nights but it was so wonderful, and our schedules allowed so we extended an extra night. From the moment we arrived Guest Experience Manager Alejandra Vela made certain our every need was attended to. The hotel is stunningly beautiful, and the staff could not be more friendly. The service was five stars in every department. While the hotel had a few new opening hiccups, everything was addressed promptly and professionally.
We originally booked an ocean front room and were upgraded to a room with a swim up pool. The rooms with the swim up pools are in the shade at this time of year and do not have a view so we opted to upgrade to an ocean front suite which was stunning. The terrace with soaking tub and walkthrough shower is breathtaking. One night after dinner at Malpeque, housekeeping decorated our room with rose petals and had drawn a rose petal bubble bath in the outdoor soaking tub. I recommend the ocean front rooms and if I had known, I would have requested a room in the high 20’s as we were above the pool which meant the terrace could be loud and with less privacy at times.
We dined at all the restaurants, including in room dining for dinner, and did not have a bad meal. Dinner at Malpeque was outstanding and Chaya was wonderful for easy, good meals for as many days as we were there. Pool staff Franco, Isabella, and Ezekiel were so kind and thoughtful. Manuel at Chaya provided top notch breakfast service. Our favorite bartender at the Jao Pool Bar introduced me to the Bandarita, a customary Mexican cocktail I’d never had. There were also a few evening wine socials in the gorgeous lobby with live music.
We did not exit the property for eight days and found the food and beverage selection more than sufficient. The gym has very good quality and selection of equipment and was not crowded. That said, the hotel was also at limited capacity since it just opened in November. Although the hotel is connected to and offers day-passes to the Hilton Cancun, it was at full capacity, and we had no reason to leave the property.
Although there were a lot of babies and toddlers there, I would not consider the hotel necessarily kid friendly as there are not a lot of activities for older children. My wife and I needed to just relax for a week and this property was the perfect place to do it.
All in, the hotel is stunningly gorgeous, the staff are friendly, prompt, and professional, the food is delicious, and the setting could not be better! We will return!

Our family of 5 (kids age 4, 8, and 11) spent 3 nights in September to celebrate my 40th birthday. The hotel is beautiful, and the service was excellent. The concierge reached out before we arrived to gather some info and preferences, and we felt well cared for the whole time.
The property is isolated from the busy part of Cancun, and there’s a few km drive through a nature reserve of sorts to get to the hotel, which is next door to the Hilton AI, but still feels separate and quiet.
Upon arrival we felt immediately welcomed, and enjoyed drinks in the impressive lobby and then took a tour of the property. When we arrived at our room we found balloons and beautiful treats prepared for my birthday, plus activity books and treats for the kids.
The included breakfast was excellent, starting our day with a plate of mixed pastries and a plate of mixed fruit, followed by delicious juevos rancheros or other really well prepared egg dishes or pancakes.. we looked forward to this breakfast to order each morning! Our son’s food allergies were noted by the concierge so whenever we gave our room number at a restaurant, they already knew that we had allergies to accommodate. This was a huge comfort. For lunch and dinner the food at the restaurants was pricy, but this is to be expected, and we mostly shared nachos and such from the pool bar.
The pools were beautiful and the kids could have stayed in all day. We didn’t go in the ocean but spent some time building a sandcastle in the soft white sand. The staff at the pools and beach area were attentive and always around to help in any way.
Overall a really lovely getaway, and the staff from bell services to restaurant staff to concierge were all so warm and helpful, they ensured our stay was perfect.

We just returned from a long trip to Mexico, during this time we actually stayed at 3 different hotels. We have also been to this part of Mexico many times before and stayed at different places so I really feel I have a good grasp on what to expect. While the Waldorf isn’t the worst place you can stay it certainly isn’t the best, especially for the price.
Pros: - For the most part the service is good. The concierge team does a great job of communicating with you tia text for anything you need. There are also some really stand out employees working at the restaurants. Luis, Andy and Eric from the pool are amazing. As well as the manager of maplique, I forget his name but he was also great. Also the entire concierge team is fantastic! - The design of the hotel is very beautiful and clean. - The complimentary breakfast included when you book via Amex is very good. - The food is pretty good at all the restaurants on property.
Cons: - Upon arrival we were appointed a room that was so musty and damp and smelled like mold. I honestly wanted to sleep in the hallway that night. Mind you we were also traveling with our 4 month old baby. The next day after being told there was no where we could move to. I insisted on being moved and we were moved into a room that was much better. - while the new room didn’t smell it had a door to the bathroom that had fallen off a track and there was also a constant dripping sound coming from the bathroom. But it didn’t smell like mold and at this point my standards had lowered so we were fine. - housekeeping didn’t come at all one day. I had to call them and they finally came when we were at dinner. - the first day we tried to go to the pool was a disaster. Apparently this hotel allows people to just hold chairs all day, so when we went down there was nowhere for us to sit in the shade. And we needed shade because we have a tiny baby. The staff had zero interest in helping us find a seat, one employee actually told me there were no more umbrellas then proceeded to find an umbrella for a group of young girls and set it up for them 2 minutes later. It wasn’t till a manager stepped in and helped us find a seat. I think that kind of seat holding nonsense is only something that happens on a cheap cruise ship not the Waldorf. lol - everything is SOOOOOO overpriced, it’s actually comical. - we sent out for laundry to wash some baby bibs and got hit with a $40 laundry bill at the end. Which is just insane, also insane considering they literally put us in one room that smelled like mold and another that has the doors falling off. - the hotel is very secluded so once you try the 4 restaurants on property you are kinda trapped. So 3 nights was more than enough for us.
All in all I don’t think we would come back and I probably wouldn’t recommend. If you have the cash your better off at Rosewood or Esensia but if you are using your Hilton points it’s a good choice for that obviously.

We had 6 Glass water bottle in the room and asked for another 6 from housekeeper. Water is free.
I would say smaller bill to tip bellman, housekeeper, front desk if you wish. The restaurants you can charge to the room.
The upper level are complementary. The lower level closer to the ocean are for rent! You’re gonna love this resort!!! We got to know many of the staff. They are endearing.
There are more places to choose from in the Cancun area.
