Our family, two children 5 and 8, traveled to the JW Marriott Cancun Resort August 2019. The JW property is beautiful, very clean and well kept.
Our room was a Grand Ocean Suite. It was a perfect set up for our family. The room provided a septerate room & bath for our girls and a seperate room for my husband and me. The renovated rooms are well appointed and the nicest rooms in which we have ever stayed at a JW Marriott. The master bathroom is simply spectacular as is the view to the ocean. Housekeeping did a wonderful job each day and night. My girls loved coming back to the room before bed and finding chocolates on their pillows and their stuffed animals cutely placed on their pull out bed.
The highlight of our trip and what made our experience five stars at the JW Marriott Cancun was the access to the Club 91. The staff at Club 91 were exceptional, kind, sincere and helpful. The team in Club 91 truly made us feel like valued Marriott guests. They treated our children with the same love and respect as they did my husband and me. In addition to the outstanding customer service in Club 91 we were very pleased with the food and beverage choices. We travel frequently to the Cancun area and after our experience with the dedicated team in Club 91 it would be hard to look at other options. They made our experience top notch and we can't wait to go back.
A big thank you to Kimderly from Club 91. You and your team are truly amazing and we can't wait to come back and see you soon.

This hotel is probably one of the best I’ve ever stayed at. I’ve never stayed at a JW before, and my experience here makes me always want to choose JW over the other Marriott brands. Every single employee working within this location is extremely professional, courteous, and very friendly. Having talked to many of them, they’ve all been there for a long time and are very happy working there - this shows in the level of service that they provide. They always greet you with a smile, and cater to your every need. Aside from the service, the hotel itself is posh, luxurious, and maintained very well. I have stayed at a lot of hotels during this pandemic, and the level of cleanliness at this hotel is next level. They wipe everything down, they sanitize everything and every employee wore their mask in a manner that covered both their nose and their mouth. It’s these little things that make a huge difference. The rooms are spacious, maintained well, and also kept clean. The only complaint I have is that the strength of the WiFi was relatively low in room 431 - the bathroom was a dead zone. I also noticed that they didn’t offer complimentary upgrades even if you are a Bonvoy member. Upgrades are offered, but they aren’t complimentary. If upgrades aren’t complimentary, I almost find no purpose in being a Bonvoy member. I get that the hospitality sector lost a ton of money over the past year, but it makes no sense to not offer complimentary upgrades. Lastly, going towards the end of May is the Sargassum season - the beaches have so much seaweed on them that they’ll ruin all your pictures, as well as your beach experience. A tractor comes around to clean up the beach, but it almost makes no difference. The water is also filled with seaweed during this time, and you’ll have to swim about 15 feet past the shore to get to clear water. But alas, Mother Nature is in control of these factors, and there’s nothing you can do about it. This isn’t specific to one hotel obviously; the whole shoreline gets affected.

We are very loyal to Marriott and were happy to be able to travel again. (We previously had covid and recovered) Now it was time to jet set off on a warm Cancun vacation. The rate at the time of booking was excellent. Likely not typical so we had to take advantage of it. Upon arrival I felt all covid safety precautions were taken. Masks were properly worn by guests and staff in public areas. Sanitizer was readily available . As Platinum members we used suite night awards and could not be happier with our room. We had to wait 30 mins but did arrive before official check in time. The Caribbean Suite was a perfect space for two adults and two teens. We never saw hskping but they did a nice job cleaning and replenishing. We ate most meals on PROPERTY either at the JW or regular Marriott. Door and pool staff were all very friendly. The resort was really empty so there were times when we were the only ones in an entire area. The JW loungers are thick and comfortable. Bring your headphones since they do not have or allow music. Their beach is very well maintained and easily accessible. We did not experience anything negative on our 5 day trip and would recommend this location for your Cancun vacation.

We stayed the week of Feb. 17th. During our stay, the hotel was a mix of families with small kids and various conference/convention groups. The pools were overrun with screaming kids, who spilled food into the pools and hot tubs. Gross! The adults only pool was tiny in comparison to the others, and would have been great, had the hotel not kept closing it early to set up for convention events. One group consisted of over 250 landscapers who were treated to an "all inclusive" experience (who knew the JW was all-inclusive?) by their host. This group dominated wherever the screaming kids didn't, including the adults only pool and beach. Many were drunk and obnoxious due to being over served as part of their "all-inclusive" deal.
Every night, either the beach or central courtyard was setup with live bands for these conventions entertainment, playing until 11 pm. The music was so loud the walls in the room were vibrating!
Yazmyn the concierge was useless and clueless when dealing with guests needs, beyond making dinner reservations.
Housekeeping starts at 8 am, so we were awakened to an apocalypse over our heads each day. Floors were not cleaned well and our sofa had unidentified sticky patches on it (bodily fluids maybe?)
Overall, if you are traveling as a couple and are looking for a relaxing hotel, steer clear of the JW Marriott Cancun! And although Daniel Aguirre and/or Daniela Hernandez will respond to this review with generic babble, ours was a true experience of the JW Marriott Cancun.

I in general like Marriotts and if this had been for business, it would have been good enough. This place in no way should be mistaken for a 5 star resort. We went as 3 friends to enjoy some beach time. The rooms are clean and the only redeeming point about this place is the spacious bathrooms. Our first day there, my 2 friends ordered margaritas on the beach that was so watered down that we realized it’s not worth having a drink at our hotel. We ordered lunch on the beach and the guacamole had gone bad and was quite sour and the waiter made it clear that he was doing us a favor removing it from our bill. After that experience and the state of their breakfast buffet we decided we would only eat outside and not try any of the restaurants for dinner. It is very easy to get taxis from the hotel to almost any type of very excellent set of restaurants. The waiters at the breakfast buffet were very attentive. The area for the buffet food was very tiny with long lines. The place has 2 pools, an adult pool that is tiny and just good enough to stand at the bar, but not for swimming. The main pool is not very big and much smaller than most resorts. What’s very sad is that in a country that has labor so readily available, nobody is cleaning. At the pool, there’s dirty empty cups scattered everywhere, the bathrooms around the pool are shamefully dirty and the lounge chairs look like they have never been cleaned. Our worst experience was with checkout. We checked out the night before to make sure we could leave without getting hassled. Checkout took almost an hour and then the next day when we asked for a cab and gave our room number and said we had already checked out, we were treated like people who were trying to skip town. We were told we had not checked out and we would have to stand in line to check out again. It turned out the incompetent person the night before after taking an hour of our time, had forgotten to charge us foe the last night. I asked to speak to a manager and the staff refused to call the manager for us. We were very delayed because of their incompetence and barely had time to make it through checkin and immigration at the airport.

Just returned on Friday after 6 days, it was a wonderful trip. Everybody we met since arrival was super friendly and helpful, Christopher at the front door to Jazmine our housekeeper always smiling and helpful. The hotel is big and very clean, the chairs at the pool area had plenty of empties we always found a place to sit, down by the water was also the same plenty of chairs. We only ate at the resort once which was by the pool just had tenders and a salad both good, along with the mango daiquiri. You need to try the mezcal margarita popsicle when the ice cream man is in the pool area, to die for on a hot day... We did try the margarita's in the lobby they were very good we did ask that they use half of the simple syrup not so sweet then and very tasty. We went across the street most days for breakfast Marina Sunrise Café 4$ for a full meal can't beat it and also tacogrillo was good too and very inexpensive. Most other places you do have to take a bus to but for 12 peso you cant beat it, we never felt unsafe even at night.
We had a wonderful chill time and will be back for sure, no problems at all.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful both inside and out. Rooms are large and the bathrooms are designed so 2 people could be getting ready at the sinks, 1 could be in the amazing shower with overhead faucet and a 4 th could have privacy on the toilet. The view off our balcony of the ocean and the grounds couldn’t be beat. There is an infinity pool and a separate pool for adults only. Everything is spotless and staff is so friendly- perfect touch to have our beds turned down with a chocolate every night. 150 Margarita bar has amazing options. Would highly recommend staying here-can’t wait to go back!!

We literally booked this the morning of our arrival due to delayed COVID PCR test results for a different location altogether which we were unable to get to. Remembering reading all the amazing reviews we changed our plans to here and we were so glad we did. The staff makes this property 5 stars. Every single person goes above and beyond for each guest. Service was exceptional. The hotel was recently remodeled and the rooms were great. We stayed on the 14th floor where I believe the rooms are slightly larger. We originally booked the Club 91for our entire stay but then canceled it half way through. Most days our kids did not want to go upstairs for lunch. Also due how busy they were I don’t believe they had enough time to deliver a great quality of food. The food was much better at the restaurants. We did not see the value but based on other reviews maybe at slower times they are able to deliver a better product. Every place we dined we never had to worry about our kids food allergies. They were so attentive and always asked if there were any food allergies. We also felt very safe. The staff really makes the resort. Service is delivered with a smile. This has to be one of the best run Marriott properties we have ever been to and we have been to every level from The Ritz to St. Regis to Courtyards.

Arrived at the hotel around 1 p.m. and didn't expect to be able to get into a room, but to my surprise, a room was available immediately. The room is large in size, with a king sized bed, multiple chairs, and a type of day bed/lounge.

Nice closet size with robes and hangers. Safe and very tempting mini bar and fridge.

LOTS of chargers and electricity plugs in the room, desk, and bathroom.

The bathroom was fabulous, with a toilet behind a closed door, separate shower with rainforest shower head, soaking tub, and two sinks. Very nice amenities including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, multiple soaps, lotion, shaving kit, toothpaste kit, bath salts, comb, shower cap, and more.

The balcony had a side view of the water and two chairs and table, but is not a place I could envision myself spending any length of time.

Housekeeping did an excellent job...even did turndown service.

The Beachwalk restaurant is good, as far as pool food goes, and the pool side service is good and friendly. I liked the quesadilla, tacos, and Acapulco shrimp cocktail.

Sedona Grill breakfast buffet is a dream...maybe a bit pricey, but worth every penny. Made to order omelettes, eggs, seafood, cold salads, fruits, sweet breads, waffles, cereals, bacon, and so much more. There are maybe 5 different juices; I loved the cantaloupe water. Again, friendly, quick and attentive service.

People put towels on beach chairs EARLY...I learned this the hard way. Wish there was a better way to monitor this, but I don't know what the hotel can do.

Good ice cream in the store!

I appreciated the amenities with the resort fee, the coffee, snacks, and we even did the wine tasting. Guacamole in the lobby bar was also a nice touch.

COVID test for return to the US was easy to schedule and results arrived quickly.

Highly recommend!

It is not an option any longer. The Marriott restaurants are for their guests only. We did venture over to ask. There are actually signs now that say entry from JW to Marriott is not permitted unless you are a convention guest. The sports bar has now been converted to an arcade restaurant with Nintendo etc. very different than before. There are great restaurants right across the boulevard. Highly recommend Carrillo.
