La Casa de Mama is a really great hotel. It's well designed, wrapped around a central patio with a pool. It is a modern building but has a colonial look and above all it has a really good feel to it. The staff were all really welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. There aren't many hotels in San Cristobal that have pools, and this one - though small - is wonderful, not least because it is heated. The highlight of every day was getting back and diving into the pool to wash off the heat and dust. They kept it open and heated even though our stay was during ultra-low season and there were very few other guests. Our room was very comfortable, with great beds. The only weakness lay in the restaurant, where the breakfasts were ok but the evening meal we tried was a bit disappointing. Having taken a disappointing trip to the Sumidero canyon, they fixed us up with a trusted taxi driver called Rafael and we organised our own day trip to Chiapa de Corzo - much better. I really recommend this hotel as a base in San Cristobal and for exploring the surrounding region.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. Very close walking distance from the main square. The rooms were clean but bathroom was a bit too small. The owner MARIA helped and although she could not speak the language she chatted with google translation. Eric at the reception was very helpful with booking of private taxi for a day to El Chifflon. Diego speaks excellent English. The day we left there was a huge carnival and all the roads were blocked. Diego helped us to find a taxi. Maria has given a persona touch to the family run hotel with beautiful garden and pool. Everything is so well manicured and maintained. We could hear water gurgling at night which lulls you to peaceful sleep. It got very cold at night so when i requested a small heater they immediately provided one.

Back in March 2019, my husband and I stayed in La Casa de Mama in San Cristobal de las Casas for 7 nights. The hotel layout resembles an hacienda like, with a nice pool and beautiful garden located in the center of the hotel. Unfortunately, I have this big problem of being a light sleeper and our room was in very close proximity to the pool and it was very loud even when the pool was empty. Every little sound echoed to our room. We really liked the hotel, it's nicely decorated, very clean, great service from the front desk, very safe (they have a big metal gate to control unwanted access and a security guard by the gate). Also the hotel is centrally located. We'll definitely stay there again if we were to stay at a more secluded room, away from the pool and garden. They do have another wing of rooms aways from the pool so that would be our choice. Thank you.

The hotel was charming enough but the service was very uneven: while they did allow us to store items in their refrigerator (the rooms did not have refrigerators), they charged me again for the room even though I had prepaid. Only when I showed them proof that I had prepaid, did they reverse the charge. Additionally, and most importantly, they refused to help us make a reservation at a local restaurant because they said they had their own restaurant. I have traveled all over the world, and NEVER had a hotel tell me that ! As to the rooms, they were clean and the beds were comfortable but the bathrooms were claustrophobic. Also, despite the hotel being somewhat out of the center of town, the rooms were very noisy. Finally, as to location, the hotel is about a 10 minute walk form the center of town, so a little out of the way. The trade-off should be that the area was quieter but we did not find this to be these case and had to use a white noise app on our phones to drown out the nighttime noise.

This is a very nice hotel, but the weakness is the cleanest, I requested a change of bed covers when I got the room, the restaurant is quite slow but delicious. If the hotel improve the cleanest I will back again definitely.
