The hostel is centrally located, close to the bus eateries, the kitchen is clean and well stokes with spices, oils and rice. I took part in several activities such as marshmallow roasting, tortilla making, taco and tamale night. Awesome staff and place I would recommend

We got an absolute bargain on a private room at La Abuelita and we had a fantastic stay. San Cristobal is small so hard to go wrong with location but this hostel was also close to the bus station which was like winning the lottery after a long and sickly overnight journey. The lovely man in reception gave us towels and let us use the shared showers to freshen up before we went exploring. He was very helpful booking tours and was pretty straight talking which we liked. Coffee is provided every morning but the filters were kept in a secret spot so wasn't really on demand. There are, however, two big fridges and plenty of cupboard space so you can have your own food and supplies to use. San Cristobal is cheap to eat out so I'd enjoy it here and then scrimp a little more in Palenque, Merida or Cancun if you're on a budget. We did tours to the canyon and Palenque, and actually stayed in Palenque making our journey to Cancun less painful.

I have visited many hostels but none have provided such good service as was the case with La Abuelita Hostal. Before our stay I had contact with them about tours and transport for me and nine friends. They always responded very quickly and have arranged everything during our stay. Also when they actually did not offer something we wanted (like salsa lessons and cooking workshop) they did their research and provided us with options. The hostel itself is very clean and located well in the city centre. Unfortunately there is no breakfast, but a well equiped kitchen is present and we have been told they want to introduce breakfast soon. Nice extra feature is that the beds in our dorm were made every day, something I have never experienced while staying in hostels. To conclude, one of the best hostels I have stayed and therefore highly recommended when visiting San Cristobal!
