Camino Real Polanco is unique architectural concept, created by highly-regarded architect Ricardo Legorreta. This space is considered a Hotel-Museum for its beauty and art collection. It opened its doors to the public on July 25, 1968, combining modern features with shapes clearly reminiscent of Prehispanic pyramids, the elements of which merge together to create a wonderful architectural work. Camino Real Polanco has hosted two soccer World Cups and the Olympic Games, as well as over 210 official visits from presidents and kings from all over the world. Category 5 Stars / 4 Diamonds

Camino Real Polanco Mexico is praised for its prime location near shopping and cultural hotspots, with many guests appreciating the hotel's cleanliness and spacious rooms. However, opinions are split on the service and atmosphere, with some visitors finding the staff welcoming and the modern vibe appealing, whereas others report unprofessional service and a noisy bar scene. The hotel's value and amenities receive mixed reviews, with some guests enjoying the pool and gardens, but others disappointed by dated room decor and missing complimentary features.

Mexico City: the huge, teeming, pulsing, humming, mariachi-ing and feasting city of 21.2 million scattered across a plateau that is 7,350 ft above sea level at an average in the City center, and rises to over 8,000 ft along hillsides that support more than half the local population. This location has been the focal point of thousands of years of evolutionary / culinary history, as successive civilizations have fought for dominance and controlled the nation from this vantage point, and left their mark.

For our first time here, we decided to splurge on a good hotel. The earlier part of this trip to Mexico had been on an invitation from a friend, so accommodation was in a private home… which meant we could afford a bit of luxury for the two nights in Mexico City.

Polanco is the better part of Mexico City. A lot of embassies, cultural missions, international corporations, etc. are based in this neighborhood, which makes it safe and attractive for a first time visit. Mexico has a lot of very interesting and beautiful architecture, mixed in with the old archaeological sites and today’s architectural creations by world famous architects.

The hotel is boldly designed, and dramatic. From the street façade, to the entrance lobby featuring a dramatic, churning fountain, to the lobby and thence to the public spaces and guestrooms, each space is beautifully and dramatically laid out and luxuriously fitted. Water is a theme element in the interior spaces on the public floors: pools and cascades surprise the eye as you walk through these spaces, and lead from one vista to another within the building. It is a dividing and uniting feature that imparts spatial and audible continuity to the public spaces on the lower floors.

The guestrooms, in particular, have every convenience a guest could require, and if anything should be lacking, the management is happy to make it happen immediately…. But ! The rooms are large, spacious, and generously proportioned. No small cubby-hole European style rooms here: the City had lots of space to build, and the builders did their best to use it all.. almost. The furnishings are of the best available materials, with primary and earthy colors, fabrics, finishes and fittings everywhere, from walls to ceilings to floors. A visual delight.

One sour note ~ the baths are very well designed with floor to ceiling marble walls and counters, etc., but failed in a practical sense: the shower drain didn’t quite keep up with the flow from the shower and clogged. I did complain to the management, but they were unable to do anything about it, as it was still happening on our second morning. And, they didn’t offer to change our room. A bit disappointing, for such an excellent establishment.

We stayed at this hotel for the recent Zona Maco art fair. We had previously booked one of the cute boutique hotels in Polanco but when we saw this hotel we moved immediately. First of all, it is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous, art-filled spaces. The location is excellent, in walking distance of the best museums and a short car ride (except in Mexico City's horrific rush hour traffic) of the good restaurants in Roma and La Condesa. The original rooms are spacious and stunning, with great bathrooms and lovely details like original wood closets. Ours looked out over a lovely courtyard with a pool that people were actually swimming laps in every morning. I recommend spending a little extra for the Club level rooms (about $60 USD) and having breakfast included in the 5th floor VIP lounge. I could go on about what is great at this hotel, but the best, by far, was the service. The staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating, even though we checked in at the last minute and it was during a busy art fair week. The concierge is open until 11 PM. Check out is at a very reasonable 1 PM and they let us stay an extra half hour with no problem. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants an easy, relaxed stay.

The hotel has an interesting history also. It was originally designed as a hospital, but converted to a hotel during the 1968 Olympics. Read about it, it's a great story.

We just got back from our first trip to Mexico City and luckily, at the last minute we changed our hotel to the Camino Real. And boy, are we glad we did. From a practical point of view, the hotels location is ideal, close enough to all the major sites and museums, but with just enough distance to be an oasis at the end of the day. My wife especially enjoyed the (heated) pool. while my 16 yr old son hit the gym every day. They have several restaurants and bars on sight, to be honest, we ate out most of the time, but I really enjoyed the breakfast buffet the one time we ate there. I had the Mexican dishes which were really good. My son thought the more traditional US food was so so. We were not pleased with our first room choice. We mentioned this right away and we were quickly given other rooms to choose from. We selected the third floor with a garden view. Throughout our stay the staff couldn't have been more professional and accommodating. They were especially helpful with restaurant reservations, even calling us on our cells to confirm so we didn't have to stand around the hotel waiting for a conformation. Now, lastly, the hotel itself. The architecture is stunning. i know there have been some changes from the original 1968 design, but not enough to take away from its core form, which is beautiful. And the furniture was spectacular, most seemed to be Knoll.
Is the Hotel showing some signs of age? Sure. But the (very) few faults I could mention to me are minor at best.
The bottom line is that Camino Real is a stylish, well located, and reasonably priced Hotel that makes for a great place to stay in Mexico City.
We will be back.

This may not be one of the swishy expensive hotels in Polanco , but it was perfectly good for us. It is modern , rooms good size, bathrooms very adequately supplied, and clean . If you want ice you will have to call housekeeping . Uber drivers were never far away, and rides around the city very affordable. The hotel is very particular about which taxis they will let you take. There are 2 entrances, if you go to the other entrance( no Uber’s drop off ) you will find a street full of stores. We did not eat at the hotel, but the staff were polite, helpful and caring . I left my iPad in my room, it was taken to housekeeping and I retrieved it 2 days later!

We did not engage a single employee here that was not friendly and helpful. Everyone mentions the art here, but it was lost on me. The hotel was clean, our room comfortable. The bathroom layout was odd, but nice shower with plenty of hot water and good toiletries. Several restaurants if you don't want to go out. We appreciated La Huerta with buffet or table service. Great location--across from entrance to Chapultapec Park with its variety of museums, lakes, zoo, and Chapultapec Castle. Lots of places to walk or run in the Park and around the hotel there are many shops, restaurants and convenience stores like Circle K where bottled water, soft drinks and snacks are cheap.

Our stay at this hotel kicked off a wonderful adventure week in Mexico. Hotel, staff and food were great, service was quick and efficient. Our group of six was treated very well throughout our two stays (one 2 day at the beginning of the tour, one 1 day at the end) during the overall excursion to the Monarch Butterfly overwintering sites.

91 pesos for an orange juice was my first awe at this nice place with huge gardens, a heated open pool, and a 5 minute walk to my huge hotel room. The floor lamp didn’t work and the toilet is super noisy. The bed, linens, pillows and black out curtains and resuced noise coming from the outside were the most positive aspects of my stay. Will return with my family some day.

The staff is welcoming and Gustavo made sure we were taken care of from start to finish, including arranging in-room covid tests for our return to the US. We also had lunch and breakfast in La Huerta - It may look like a buffet but it is well beyond this! Many many dishes from around Mexico and the wait staff are more than happy to guide you to these delicacies - it is well worth a try. We stayed in a courtyard room facing the pool. It is a lovely view and the rooms were spotless and kept to the late 60's vibe that makes this place a design destination. We splurged on in room coffee and fruit and the service was also prompt and elegant. Cannot wait to return.

Our party of 9 booked several rooms at the Camino Real Polanco and we were all very happy that we had chosen this property for our 5-day visit to CDMX. First, the architecture is stunning and who can complain about the amazing artwork by Rufino Tamayo in the lobby? Our rooms were all renovated and the Mexican hospitality we received from most of the staff....rooms attendants, porters, front door staff...was beyond gracious. Only the front desk check in staff were not very friendly, perhaps because this hotel is primarily a business hotel and our group was there on vacation. All meals we had, whether room service or in one of the restaurants, were excellent. The concierge was excellent, able to arrange for in-room massages within one hour! Finally, the location could not be beat. We could walk to the shopping in Polanco as well as to the main museums such as the Museo de Antropólogia. Overall, an excellent experience and great value.

I did not expect that I would enjoy our stay so much. From the moment we walked in, everyone was so friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcomed. The 60’s decor was so atmospheric, and it is wonderful that the hotel kept their original look from the time it was build tor the 1968 Olympic Games. Even the elevator music fit the vibe. The room is very large and comfortable. The beds were wonderful and the sheets were changed daily. The shower was great. Breakfast was served in the 5th floor lounge and the selection was plentiful. We also enjoyed the pool. I also want to mention that the concierge Jorge was so helpful and friendly and helped us arrange for a car and driver to Puebla. Oh, and when we needed a COVID test, someone was up in our room in 20 minutes (we were probably just lucky that the lab was there at that time, but still). It was a fantastic stay all around!

I am not aware of such service. There is very plentiful taxi service. Contract such service at one of kiosks at airport. You can pay with credit card and in exchange you get a receipt to give to drive. At kiosk they will tell you what door number to find your taxi. Ride is about 30 minutes over some poorly maintained roads . Do not dispair. You will be pleasantly surprised when you pull up to CR. Fare is $20 to $30 —— can not remember. A fiver tip appreciated when you complete ride.
