Hotel's Favourite
My husband and I have stayed at this property probably nearly a dozen times. And we will hope we can stay at Casa Cupula a dozen more times. To us, Casa Cupula feels like home away from home. The crew at the hotel is the perfect blend of fun and professional. And the pool parties couldn’t be more entertaining. We love Jean “Papi”, Miguel, Felix, Saul, Jose, and the rest of the Pool Club team and reception staff for ensuring everyone is having a good time and taken care of. We have seen Casa Cupula evolve over the years, and it keeps getting better and better

After visiting PV off and on since 2011, I decided to take the opportunity to work their over the summer. I had always wanted to stay at an all LGBT resort, but was always too chicken. During this solo trip I finally mustered up the courage and booked a weekend stay at Casa Cupula.
What was supposed to be a weekend retreat during my time spent working remotely in PV, turned into a four week adventure at Casa Cupula.
I had originally booked a weekend stay at Casa Cupula, but after 2 nights at the resort I had to extend my stay!
The Rooms
Since I stayed around 4 weeks at the hotel I moved between rooms based on availability. Staying in a Queen, a King, and my favorite the Frida Suite. No matter the room, they were all up to date with comfy beds, smart decorating, amazing bathrooms, and perfect views of the ocean and Romantic Zone down below.
The Staff
Everyone one from the front desk attendants, Angel the driver/doorman, to the kind house keeping staff, the entire staff we’re always greeting with a smile and asking if I needed anything.
Dog Friendly
As a solo traveler traveling with two pups, finding a resort that is pet friendly is a hard find. Not only is Casa Cupula dog friendly, but dogs are treated like royalty. During our stay my two pups had their own spa day with baths and cute bandanas to show off. The hotel even provided a dog package at an additional cost of $75, which included their food! The pups were welcome in all common areas, including the pool club. This was amazing as I could finally enjoy my trip with my pups tagging along!
Pool Club
This is what really made my trip! As a solo traveler the pool club was the best place to meet new friends and companions for going out in the evenings. The pool club was a melting pot of guys of all types and super welcoming to all. The pool parties held on the weekends also brought non-resort guests to the meet and befriend. They’ve also recently remodeled this area which is amazing!
All in all, out of the 2 month stay I had in Puerto Vallarta; Casa Cupula was the highlight of my trip. Casa Cupula is the FIRST place I look when searching for accommodations before looking at AirBnB. I went back to PV for Halloween weekend recently and the only reason I didn’t book Cupula, is because they were fully booked (not surprisingly).

With everything that is going on world wide , I ventured on taking a weakened gate away and. As soon as I got to Casa Cupula I realized that they have the “ Fase Cero” government stamp ( this mean that they audited the place and the they follow all sanitary regulations) which helped me to be at ease.
The room was amazing, it has a great view over the vegetation and it made it feel cozy also it was few steps away from one of the 3 pools on the hotel
Facility wise it has great facilities the gym is fully equipped. The variety of pools it’s refreshing loved the view from the infinity pool ! People from staff are great since I arrived I felt welcomed and every interaction I had with any team member they made sure I was having a good time .

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this great review. On behalf of all our staff, we want to grateful you for your nice words, we are happy to know your charming experience in Casa Cupula. Since COVID-19 came into our lives we applied protocols and measures to provide a safe vacation to all our customers, this new reality requires us to watch over the small details. We enjoy knowing about how comfortable your room and pools were, every room has its own touch, all of them are completely different. We can’t wait to welcome you back. Sunny greetings from Casa Cupula. Sincerely Gustavo Silva Operations Manager

First the good:
The staff is amazing and nice. The location is great; if you are LGBT, you're right in the heart and walking distance to everything. The rooms are kinda trendy, modern and cool. As in the title, I'd rate the first visit 4 stars and it only lacked 5 that time due to the wifi just simply being so unreliable that I was fearful of a business call.
The bad:
On this second visit, we found the wifi situation was 10x worse. In my business, I'm never 100% off, even on vacation. I need to be able to make a wifi call, adjust some spreadsheets and do a little bit of work. This was just simply not in the cards at all. It did not matter where I went in the resort, I had little to no access, or very slow if at all. Secondly, if you have been to this property, you know you're in walking distance to so much. But when you come back from the romantic zone (the area is called that), you have a stiff uphill. There is a gate on the road that cuts you out of having to haul uphill all the way around the property to enter, but the card access gate would simply not work. We had fellow travelers trying as well repeatedly, so it was not just us. We had to give up if nobody answered on call box and do the uphill.
I honestly answered their onsite survey that I'd likely not stay again. But here is the thing I think others should know. If you are doing a trip and have a job ( or not at all) where you can afford to really disconnect, this is an AWESOME place for the gay traveler or gay couple. The staff is top notch, good restaurant (it's called Theresa), good gym, lots to do in area.
In summary, I really wish and was hoping this would be my perpetual return venue. But in my work, I simply cannot afford the risk.

Hi clark Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review, We take your feedback and comments very serious here at Casa Cupula, as you mentioned our staff always try to talk to our guest and see if is anything we can do to make your stay memorable, during this time we did not realize you had a business phonecall, Thank this review I would like to share some new updates: We check personally all the rooms during this week specifically room 101 to monitor the Internet, We realize that in this room we have an issue of interference of the near internet wifi which is the restaurant, we update here a new system that allows us to control the connections and avoid the interference of wifi, during this 4 weeks I have been asking different guest that they stayed in this room and even myself stay in the room for two nights working there and making phone calls, and I´m glad to inform you that this major problem is fixed. Our property is located in a Hill, but we are happy to share our complimentary transportation around the area, some of our guests enjoy walking to town from our property other don't, we are constantly monitoring the door access to verify that everything it is working perfectly for our guest. Sometimes receptions are not in the desk to open the door while they go away for no more than 10 minutes to help another guest, but we always give our guest our Manager business card to text him or call him anytime for any help of recommendation. Please we recommend to all the travelers that if you ever stay with us and something is happening during your vacations, let us know, we are very well know as a hotel with excellent service and we are, we do the best we can to make our guest feel in home away from home, do not hold your complaint till the end of your stay, let us know, we will do our best to fix it as soon as possible all the time. Thank you. Gustavo Silva Operations Manager Casa Cupula

Now having stayed at Casa Cupula, I have a better understanding of why most guests love their experience and the few whom do not.
The key is getting the room and location on the property which meets or exceeds your expectations. I wanted none of the party atmosphere and more tranquility. Casa Cupula offers both. I would rely on other reviews and the GM Boris Priego before you go.
Boris helped me land at the Frida suite. All of my pictures are in or from the suite except the reception entrance. The suite is well appointed with a stunning view. With all of the windows and two sliding patio doors, I was able to enjoy fresh night air. The A/C when needed is more than adequate.
The hillside location just out of the heart of the Zona Romantica provides a jungle like environment when dining at the Bistro for breakfast or lunch. Breakfast selections for a boutique property of only 19 rooms are impressive and delicious. The "Mexican Grand Slam" is pictured. The Pool Club for lunch was also tasty and provided a sea breeze to keep cool.
The availability of three pools had a large influence on my stay. Two are quiet. I used the rooftop with the small plunge pool most frequently as I had it to myself every day.
Staff always makes the difference. Antonio is an awesome Concierge. Angel drove me a couple times off the property and was seemingly always around when I needed a fresh pool towel from reception. Service in the Bistro was welcoming and if once you order something specific, it is remembered for the rest of your stay.
I hope to return to Casa Cupula again in 2022.

Prior to our stay we learned of this hotel from attending one of the pool parties. Therefore our next visit we booked 4 nights. When we arrived we were immediately greeted and offered a cool towel and drink. During this process we also met the lovely owner. We were then given a very thorough tour of the property by the young man who checked us in. After the tour it was time to see our room. We booked the regular queen room but when we arrived we were blown away by the amazing room 141. Absolutely spectacular. You enter into a foyer with a large bathroom to the left. Double sinks and huge walk in shower that reminded me of a high end spa. Then into the main room and immediately noticed the view through the glass wall. Wow! Again blown away looking down the canyon with views of the ocean. Long patio with a small elevated seating area at one end. The bedroom/living room had a queen bed, built in couch along one side and another couch and coffee table at the foot of the bed. We felt like we had been upgraded but this was one of the regular queen rooms. Loved it. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Great views of the entire town from the main pool and bar area. We ate breakfast a couple times at the on-site restaurant. Enjoyed sitting on the restaurant patio and looking at the greenery while dining. Also ordered lunch from the pool bar. Enjoyed all of our meals. Drinks are great and fair pricing. We were initially concerned that it was not in town but the location up in the canyon makes for great views and a nice break from the usual construction noises in town. Surprisingly not a long walk into town at all but we did chose to take Ubers back to the hotel since I’m not a fan of hiking uphill in the heat and humidity of Puerto Vallarta. I would most definitely recommend this boutique hotel and we are booking another 4 nights for April.

I stayed here with friends for a week, lovely hotel, nice rooms, friendly staff.
It’s slightly up a hill so if you have accessibly issues it might not be one for you.
5 mins in a taxi or 15 mins walk into old town (Romantic Zone). I would stay again.

Our experience with Casa Cupula began at the airport, as we reserved the roundtrip transfer through them. The instructions were accurate and we easily found our way to the driver, who kindly offered to stop by any shop or liquor store on the way to the hotel. At the check-in desk we were greeted by Antonio and we couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the property. His friendly, enthusiastic and hilarious personality made us extremely excited to have chosen Casa Cupula. The only negative at this point was that we made our reservation originally for the Penthouse Suite and during check-in, Antonio had the Sayuri Suite on file for us. There's nothing we could have done at that point, so we accepted it, but it was a suite under the same category and it was just as beautiful. We also met several returning guests during our stay who said they actually prefer the Sayuri suite. The room was gorgeous and our favorite part was the breath taking view from our balcony. Photos were taken for the gram.
The Pool Club was definitely a great time. It's easy to make new friends there and meet people from different places. During our stay we had the pleasure of meeting David and Felix, the bartenders/servers. These guys were super sweet and attentive. Kudos to David on the Saturday we were there for single-handedly running the place seamlessly despite how busy it was. These guys make amazing margaritas and the food brought over was delicious. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner of Casa Cupula, Don at the pool club as well as Camila, his sweet, adorable dog who loves interacting with the guests on property. Don was a fun guy who seemed like he genuinely cared about his guests' experience, and wants them to have a great time.
For breakfast, we stuck to the restaurant on property and were never disappointed. The food was authentic and we devoured every bite. We also sat on the outside tables which provide a great view.
Overall, I give this review 5 stars because our expectations were exceeded. We were expecting a beautiful property and view, but the service we received during our stay by the staff is what really made our stay memorable. 100% recommend.

Terrible NYE dinner!
We were in PV for Xmas & New Year’s and overall had a wonderful time, as always. We wanted a few special things to do as it was my husband’s 50th birthday on 1 Jan. We saw the offer of a NYE “Banquet” at CC for $75 each. We were excited by the description and a chance to see this famous hotel, so bought tickets.
The setting was lovely, albeit we were extremely disappointed not to be on the top level with the views, something we’d been looking forward to. The guy who greeted us at reception was lovely and super friendly and welcoming. Whilst a big effort had been made to create a special evening, and the singers were good and friendly, and the owner was friendly and welcoming, other aspects were flawed, awful in fact.
The “host” of the evening wouldn’t look up from his phone. He was rude and completely disinterested and unhelpful. The waiting staff recruited for the evening were completely clueless and unable to tell us anything about the food or drinks (which had to be paid for separately). The food was buffet style, including the “carvery roast meats” (already carved), inadequate and cold. Half the desserts were missing and the chocolate mousse was bizarre, completely liquid like milk shake.
The wine wasn’t cheap (no complimentary drink e.g. Prosecco) was offered, and so the evening cost a lot for something that was really substandard. We were told another NYE event would be happening by the upper pool area later and assumed we’d be invited, but then learned we’d have to pay!
The lack of a welcome or any interest from the staff and host (apart from the first guy) when we first arrived was really shocking actually; so disappointing.
We spent as much on this evening as we did at the beautiful Cafe des Artistes the next night, probably the best restaurant in PV, a place where the attentiveness and quality was second to none. It was an extremely disappointing and rather upsetting experience. We felt cheated and ripped-off.

This is our second visit to Casa Cupula, we were here a year ago and had a great time. in 2021, we were notified in advanace that the pool club would be closed to manage expectations.
When we checked in, we were excited to finally be able to use the pool club but were told that it is closed. I can deal with that, we'd had a great time previosuly but what I can't accept is the lack of advance notification of building work. We opted for a suite this time but every day at 930 the banging and drilling starts.
After a tough year, we had been looking forward to a week's getaway and relaxation but there's no chance with the construction noise. Considering the price we are paying (almost $250 a night) we really should have been notified in advance and given the option to reshedule our trip. There was no communication about the pool club or construction either through email or on the website.
Other little things have gotten worse. The hot tub next to the pool sat almost empty for the first two days then someone filled it up with cold water. We tried using it but the jets/control panel wasn't working. We asked a member of staff who called maintnenance but it wasn't fixed (to date).
Now some positives! The suite itself is really nice and well appointed. It has everything you need, the beds are very comfortable and the shower is nice. The only things I would improve are
1. Instructions on how to use things! We had no idea how the coffee maker worked so called the staff who didn't know but brought us another. Same for trying to work out how the TV and Apps work.
2. I think the fridge is overstocked with bar items that there is little space to store your own food and drinks.
The staff are terrific, esecially Saul who works hard to try and get things sorted, from no electricity, to the hot tub, TV and coffee maker!
Still a few days to go here but I'm doubting that I would stay here again which is a shame as I think the overall product is good and it is a welcoming, friendly environment.

Response from Management Casa Cupula, Director General at Casa Cupula LGBT Boutique Hotel
Responded 21 Oct 2022
Hi Richard, Thank you for share your experience. I am so sorry to hear that your experience is not what your expected. Unfortunately as most everyone knows construction is unpredictable and ours is taking a few weeks longer than expected due to situations beyond our control. In early November we will open our Pool Club with Double the Size and Double the Fun, it has become one of the most popular spaces for our LGBT community visitors in Puerto Vallarta. Guests have been notified but only those directly affected as our hotel pool remains open with all services. August to October are the slowest months in Vallarta and with increased tourism I'm sure these guests noticed that many other properties are also renovating or expanding so that we may serve our guests better in the future. Hope that we can welcoming you back and provide you a great experience.

I would go to an ATM downtown after you arrive. You’ll get a better rate and you won’t have to pay the fee you’ll be charged for buying pesos in the US.
Honey, use the ATM machines!
ATM in town is usually the best way to get pesos.
