Reviews summary

Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlan Golf & Spa Resort garners applause for its extensive amenities, including diverse pools and all-inclusive dining options, although there are mentions of some areas still under development. The resort's cleanliness is widely celebrated, with guests commending the pristine condition of rooms and public areas. While the rooms are generally admired for their space and ocean vistas, a few guests have encountered air conditioning and upkeep issues.
The ambiance is well-regarded, offering a comfortable and beautifully designed setting with mixed feelings about the live music during breakfast. The service is frequently praised, with staff members receiving accolades for their warmth and efficiency. However, some guests suggest being mindful of extra travel costs and recommend considering the completion of ongoing construction for the best value.

Detailed Reviews
Like all others have said, the staff were outstanding, the rooms were immaculate and the pools were well laid out and since the capacity was low, there were lots of chairs available. My only beef was with the concierge staff the night before we were to leave. I had made arrangements for my luggage to be picked up and a taxi for the airport ready and none of that was done. The phone in my room didn't work, so I had to walk to the check in desk to find out none of my arrangements were in the system.
Be aware, this resort is a 35 minute taxi ride outside of Mazatlan, so if you want to see the city, it cost me $100 just to get there and back. As we were so far away from Mazatlan, there were no vendors on the beach and no mariachi bands to spoil the quiet. It's a gated community with high security so the only people at the resort are the guests and golfers. You cannot have a friend from another resort come visit you as day passes are not available.
There is nothing there to do except lie in a pool chair or golf. At the time I was there, the beach had a 5ft high berm of sand between the hotel and the beach you had to climb over to get to the beach shore and no lifeguards. There are no water activities available like kite surfing, snorkeling or jet skis. There may be in the future, but for the soft opening, nothing.
The resort is large, so there is a bit of walking between the buildings. There is only one elevator per building but there are wheelchair ramps everywhere so access to the site is well done. As the hotel was not at full capacity, some of the restaurants were closed some nights and I never did have the opportunity to eat at the buffet for dinner as it was never open. The Mexican restaurant is still being built. I've never stayed at a Dreams resort before but I did talk to a few people and they said that this hotel is not up to Dreams standards. Most of the food I ate was good, not amazing. Meraki was the best restaurant, but get to a restaurant as soon as they open or you will be waiting for a table.
It is cold there at this time of year! The shape of the buildings creates wind tunnels all over the resort. I had to buy sweaters in Mazatlan to keep warm. I could never get the room's heat above 20 degrees C. Supplies seemed limited as they never refilled my fridge the entire week, but that could be due to the soft opening and they just didn't seem ready to open the full resort.
By the end of the week, the soft opening was over as most of the people had left and the site turned back into a construction zone. The last two days I was there, I listened to saws and hammers all day long. My advice would be to wait a few months before booking here to give them time to finish the construction.

Great soft opening, The resort is on limited low occupancy, so all pools, bars and restaurants are not crowded.
The staff is extremely friendly and eager to help, specially the restaurant and Front desk staff ( Joel, Manuel, Aaron and David, Roberto, Omar, Hugo, Caro, Eunice)
Food is amazing, fresh seafood is the top choice at the Occeana and MERAKI restaurant,
Portofino’s osobucos lamb was my favorite!!!
Rooms are new, beds feel like clouds and pillows menu is available for different options.
Cleaning service on the room is every day, and room service is fast and convenient for night service.
Coco cafe has a special mention, different options for pepitos and sandwiches!!! Top service by Karla, Thuy and Nathalia.
Drinks at the pool by Isaac, Annuar and Edgar are the best.
Dont forget to try the geltato shop pictaccio flavor was my fav.
Gym is Clean, small but, complete, you only miss the dumbells.
Patio restaurant is not done yet, but was not notice because food was always available and so may options im sad I could not try all of them dishes.
Spa is not open yet still under costruction but did nod needed we were busy all day by the pool and eating

Much like the other reviewers, we came to Dreams Estrella del Mar as part of a group for the eclipse. Since this was a rushed opening there were a few glitches, but the staff and the overall experience were still exceptional.
We were warmly greeted with drinks and entertainment when we first arrived. Several of the staff even said “welcome home.” Once our room was ready, one of the staff, Yulisa helped us with our luggage, showed us to our room, and asked if we had any questions, all with a big smile. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a balcony that overlooked the pools and ocean. There were several pools, all a pleasant temperature and some with a swim-up bar. There were even water slides and a lazy, manmade river that wended through a cave. We tried them all.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The air conditioning in our room wasn’t working, but when we mentioned it to one of the staff members (I wish I could remember his name!) it was quickly fixed. The food at the restaurants, which offered a variety of cuisines, was delicious: that, as well as drinks and ice cream from the ice cream shop were all inclusive.
Overall, this was an enjoyable stay. The staff and location made the magical experience of my first total solar eclipse even more special. It is definitely a resort I look forward to visiting again.

On the day of arrival they do not allow you to use facilities until 12 pm unless you pay a breakfast of 400 per person, it took a long time after 3 pm to give the rooms. They tell you that they will refill the refrigerator daily and not a single day did they refill it, the rooms are nice because they are new but very dirty glass with scratches from the construction and a lot of dirt. In the Italian restaurant, whoever they wanted was allowed to enter with shorts and whoever they wanted was denied entry because they were not wearing pants. The waiter at the pool, very inattentive, never stopped to take orders and if you asked him he wouldn't take them to you. They tell you that the sea is rough but that everyone enters at your own risk and that's not the case. When you enter, several guys arrive to threaten you. one way or another so that you leave the beach area, nor in the sand did they allow you to stay up to the room number they wanted and all because they do not want to have a lifeguard in the area. The lifeguards in the pools are rarely seen. They are not heated pools. The animation team does what they can. To use the bathrooms next to the ice cream parlor you have to go through everything and staff working, there is dirt and people working everywhere. The food in general is good, the best is the océana and the buffet, the grills are only served when they want.

It is a new hotel, so you will find everything relatively new and very well maintained, most of the very friendly and attentive staff, the animation team (Angel, Adrian, Juan, Carlos) have the best entertainment day and night. By the service in Restaurant all the staff on the lookout as waiter (Edwin in the Oceana, Jose in Meraki) they very cute. On the other hand in the lousy pool area by Rufo who takes you nothing to the pool area and only asking a few if they were offered something, and the bar staff of the central pool area Edgar nefarious people denying you the things that really exist and have (such as a beer, which is not an otherworldly thing, and then for us the partners who do that type of action, if I found it in very bad taste). Restaurants when they are overrun are very slow and the waiting time is more than 50 minutes, they have no waiting room and there are no reservations (the latter does not seem bad to me. As for the very spacious, large and clean facilities, the excellent beach. Come birthday we had a great time.

Five star hotel on opening weekend! You will feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
Entertainment was phenomenal, very colorful with talented dancers. Best shows I have seen at a Hyatt! The entire entertainment management, supervisors and dancers met with you to make sure your needs were met. Wow, just Wow!
Pool staff was attentive and courteous. They took care of your every need. Pool Staff made sure your room was in order! They took the time to ask if there were any concerns. Kudos to all of them.
Pool service concierges were helpful and friendly. The staff ensured your food and drinks were spot on meeting your requests.
Restaurant service and food was exceptional. The team members worked efficiently and together to ensure you were pleased. If you have a food allergy they inform the chef. Extra careful! Easy to dine at all restaurants on site. The buffet was organized and offered many options to meet vegetarian, European and American choices.
Every room has an ocean view! You can hear the waves crashing from your room. We did not see a single mosquito or bug.
Just amazed at how the entire team memorized your name and makes sure you have the vacation you came for. Note, this was opening weekend, things are exceptional.
What an amazing all-inclusive. Yes, they had some limitations this weekend but they are working to open their spa services. You are in for a treat!

We were also greeted as the first visitors (with champagne, music and dancers) to the resort specially for the eclipse. I second all the positive comments made in the reviews of the other "first" visitors. I will note that we were told that the hotel was only ¼ filled with about 500 guests, so it was a bit of a "soft" opening. So there were always plenty of chairs, waiters for poolside drinks, and empty cabanas to occupy (we were told later they were to be rented). There may have also been staff from other Hyatt properties to help train and assist who would be returning to their own properties eventually.
We thought the accommodations were beautiful, the staff friendly and energetic and the facilities/location perfect. Besides Gil, our kudos go to others on the entertainment team including Fernando, Danielson and Vanessa. Julies was also a wonderful staffer who was always around to see if everything was good. Sara, a possible food manager, was seen in several of the restaurants at different points always with a smile and ensuring we were happy. Along with the pools, the beach was clean and provided wonderful long walks in either direction. Also, being between Mazatlan and the airport (only about 15 minutes from the airport) we had easy access without going to the city unless you would like to go.
I agree we saw some issues that I'd expect from a slightly premature opening forced by the eclipse. There was some landscaping and hardscape plastering ongoing when we arrived, not all supplies (like spray/wipes) were in the fitness room, and some of the restaurants had occasional issues getting food out hot or orders at a table brought out together. The spa was not open, but some spa staff made the rounds near the pool for "5" minute (they were longer) free scalp, hands or feet massages. Information regarding menus, times, schedules, even room service (was there room service?) was not readily available -- at least at first. We only learned toward the end of the visit, that there was an app with schedules, info, etc which otherwise had been being spread by word of mouth. Hopefully they will use this app and inform guests of it when they check in.
I have not frequented these types of all-inclusive beach resorts and was conscious of the fact that we were getting special service. But I would say that my stay was perfect and memories of the trip will last a lifetime.

The positives:
Service of waiters and bar tenders in the pool.
Rich food, especially in Portofino restaurant.
The restaurant where they offer buffet, which you can enter without booking, is quite good.
There is a fridge near the pool with very rich gelato snow. They don't offer it to you, but they also have a yogurt snow machine and they can make you milkshakes.
Nice and clean rooms.
There was a steam iron for clothes, in our room, very easy to use.
We touched few people in pools and common areas.
The hotel is new, away from everything (it is 30 minutes from Mazatlan).
It is located 15 minutes from the Cuchupetas Seafood (we take the opportunity to eat there before arriving at the hotel).
It has slides for children and there are no lines.
The lazy river is very comfortable, you can stick your own inflatables or use the ones they have in the hotel.
Although the children's area is not yet open, at certain times there are activities in the pool and outside (indoor), for them. There is a ping-pong table, a connect 4 full size, a big jerga, a chess with pieces like 1 meter, board games, popcorn.
You can see in the distance dolphins (ring a bell the hotel lifeguards as they pass), a very beautiful sight.
Not good, not bad:
No bands come through this hotel.
It is not the best beach in Mazatlan, there is a mountain of sand before the sea.If you like to get into the sea, you can not do it here because it is open sea and there is always a red flag. They told us that although it is low on the shore, when you enter the sea there may be holes.
There are more foreigners than in other hotels in Mazatlan.
The negative:
We arrived to check in at 2:30 and were given the room at 4:00 pm (which if it bothered me) we were already tired of the trip and wanted to rest. They are understaffed for cleaning, so our room was not ready.
We went to celebrate my daughter's birthday, since we checked in, I mentioned them to see if they could prepare any details. They said no problem, but on their birthday they forgot. We left the room all day and arrived at night I had to talk to remind them (they brought him a cupcake when we went out to dinner).
There wasn’t a candle for the cake throughout the hotel, so if you’re celebrating a birthday take your candle, because there isn’t there and there’s nowhere nearby to buy it.
The staff is friendly but they still have many doubts. I asked if they were American Express members to apply benefits (as in most Hyatt hotels, the chain to which this hotel belongs) and no one could answer me.
Restaurants are still missing and those that are open are not operating at 100% capacity. Although there were not as many people staying at the hotel, the wait to have a table in the specialty restaurants was approximately 40 minutes.
Shadows are missing in the pools.
There are 2 slides one green and one white. We could only use the green, because the white was poorly pasted and you could scrape.
Overall, we had a very good impression of this hotel.

We stayed at this resort on its opening week. There were missteps and hiccups but I’ve rarely seen staff so hardworking and enthusiastic. The rooms are spacious, the grounds and pools are well cared for but a close examination shows lots of places where the hotel opening was rushed to meet the demand for the crowds who descended for the total eclipse. The entertainment was over the top from the opening day fiesta to the poolside carnival activities and the outstanding eclipse party with dancers, fire acrobats and fireworks. The biggest problem was with food. All inclusive is not my thing because it seems so wasteful and indulgent, so that being said, I have to downgrade the restaurants for not being able to satisfy all the demands of serving everybody all the time. Most of the menu items were inventive and sounded delicious but failed to deliver on taste. Too many were trying too hard and had strange ingredients that did not hit the mark. The staff were new so we gave them a lot of leeway for mistakes but on several occasions we had to wait over an hour just to get served after ordering. Finally, the outdoor party was a fiasco for food that was cold, in the dark and barely cooked. The wine and booze flowed freely so that saved the day. Overall, the hotel gets a slight downgrade for their all inclusive restaurants but top grades for staff, ambiance and comfort. It works as a resort for couples who like fun and variety and for families that want a resort with all the bells and whistles.

+1
Very nice new hotel, although some areas still need to be finished, but everything was fine. We were kindly received by the lobby staff and it has very comfortable rooms, the food area with a great variety of dishes, they just need more staff since there was no one to help you. Served in the pool area, the bars need higher quality drinks for what the hotel is. We were kindly assisted by Roberto from the prefef area and everything else is very good.

I didn't see one. There were younger kids on there through adults!
Have you downloaded the app and looked at the menu? I’m not vegan so I don’t remember that for sure but all the restaurants had many options. I’m sure they can accommodate you.
"Just keep in mind that the resort is located about 40 minutes from the city center so the taxi drive is long and costly."Read full review
