Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel offers a convenient location with easy beach access that guests have called out as a highlight. However, the hotel's atmosphere is marred by considerable noise from beach bands and nearby traffic that many travelers find disruptive. While the cleanliness generally earns praise, some visitors have issues with outdated rooms and housekeeping inconsistencies. The range of amenities is appreciated, though not without limitations. Guests report dissatisfaction with value, citing hidden fees and overpriced services, and the service receives mixed reviews.

El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel provided us excellent service and a great experience in Mexico, Mazatlan. All the employees were efficient with their work and helped us out immediately when we needed help. Each room was clean and we were given access to the internet based on the people who were staying in the hotel. The internet service/ provider was very strong and we were able to chat to our love ones from the beach! If you needed additional internet access, it was not expensive to pay for one full day for another device.

The resort was close by many stores and was walk-able distance to the pier to explore some of the local shops.

We enjoyed our stay here!

This Alberta family loves El Cid Mazatlan!

We first came to stay at the El Cid in Mazatlan 10 years ago or so. We have travelled to many places in Mexico and elsewhere and always thought why go to the same place twice? Then we visited El Cid in Mazatlan and we haven’t gone anywhere else ever since! Our family just adores it here! We love the location itself, it is in the centre of the golden zone unlike some of the other resorts that are too remotely located. We love to be able to walk outside and be right in the city of Mazatlan! There are actually four separate El Cid resorts. When you book one, you have access to all of the others amenities, which offers you boundless choice in dining, beach fun, shopping and more! We love the food and the selection is diverse! From the authentic Mexican to Italian. The Argentinian and the most delicious sea food dishes. We really enjoyed the Japanese restaurant! Our favourite for breakfast is La Concha! I actually wish and dream for the omelets they make you fresh for breakfast! The lunch and dinner options are also fantastic I’ve tried many of the menu items and they were all very good! The main Buffet it’s also very good with lots of selections to please anyone’ s palate. They have a nightly show, each night is a different theme and my family always enjoyed the shows. The dancers are very talented and the shows are very colourful! The audience interaction makes a family fun night! The hotel grounds are kept spotless and the staff are all trying their best to make sure you have the best vacation! They are all so hardworking and such kind and sweet people! Over the years I have been coming here I have made many friends! Tomas,Ramon and Angel the pool and beach waiters as well as Leticia who works in the lobby bar just to name a few. They are very diligent in their safety protocols for COVID-19. They have hand sanitizer stations everywhere as well as temperature checks at the entrance and restaurants too, Your room is cleaned and sanitized on your arrival. Mask are requested to be worn in all areas except while eating or when you are able to socially distance. I have felt very safe and secure during my stay! Me, my family and friends have all immensely enjoyed our stays with El Cid. We have had the pleasure to use all the various amenities at The Granada, the Castilla and El Moro as well as El Cid Marina! I do highly recommend El Cid resorts in Mazatlan! I will continue to return year after year!

This was our first time traveling to Mazatlan & this resort. We found this resort to be very welcoming, clean, easy to navigate, with wonderful amenities & restaurants. As other reviewers have noted, it is highly recommended to book as an Elite All Inclusive. We had our own private check in & check out, along with access to cold drinks (both non-alcoholic & alcoholic) and snacks at all times. The rooms do not have fridges, so this was a very nice perk. We were also able to use the concierge staff in the Elite Lounge in order to book restaurant reservations, golf, etc. Our favourite restaurant was La Concha! Amazing seafood menu & attentive staff. As an Elite guest, we were welcome to eat here for free at any time (it is my understand that other non-Elite guests paid menu prices to eat here). We also enjoyed 3 rounds of golf in our all inclusive package, and only had the additional cost of a cart at the time of checkin at the course, which is normal. The course is very well maintained & enjoyable for all levels of golfers. Golfers are also required to have a caddy, but they are terrific & very helpful! Tip your caddy!
Elite guests also have unlimited access to the other El Cid properties, including Marina, Moro & Grenada. The pool next to the El Patio restaurant in the Grenada is heated, so great for cooler days. The staff & hotel also hosted a fantastic New Years party, with drinks, dancing & fireworks! We enjoyed our stay here very much, & hope to return again soon!!!

We booked as we were to have access to 3 El Cid resorts in total but could only visit areas of the other resorts, could not use restaurants without reservations and could not access pools or bars. This is a family resort but kids are not allowed anywhere after 8 pm. We were travelling with teenagers and could only spend time as a group in the buffet restaurant which closed at 11 leaving us nowhere to socialize. Lobby bar is only nightlife with seating for around 50 and minors not allowed after 8. We were travelling with 17 year olds so in rooms by 11 was very early for vacation. The all inclusive package was very limited with access to limited bars and restaurants. Even the staff were unsure of what we had access to and what we did not, very confusing. When trying to reserve meals we were told we could use a restaurant, then we couldn't, then we could. Completely depended on who you talked to. Anything other than the one buffet had to be reserved and some with extra charges. Beds were not comfortable and had vinyl liners under the sheets, like sleeping in a crib. Wait staff was absolutely amazing and the best part of the trip.

We booked a last min vacation with Sunwing and found a great deal so took the resort for what it was. The food was below average and the room a bit old and run down. Our safe didn't work, the bathroom pipes made a horrid noise when we showered and one day we did not have hot water. The day we arrived we immediately called to book reservations for the restaurants for the week and found that we could not get into one until our 3rd day there. The first night we ate at the large buffet and found the food luke warm to cold and not of very high quality. We ate outside the resort for the next two nights. It's in a great location and there are some really good eating places on the golden zone strip. The beach and pool area are great and we enjoyed our time there. One really wonderful aspect of this resort is that it is not in a locked gated facility that tends to feel a bit sterile. It is located in a great place and there are many wonderful areas outside of the resort to explore and experience Mexico, the people and the culture. We always felt safe.

We traveled to Mazatlan for a girls trip with 7 gals during January, 5 young adults and 2 moms. Highlights included the engaging activities staff; Bryan, Katerine, Ares, Enrique, and Jazmin. They always had a smile on their faces and knew when to push people to get involved and when to move on. They provided the right amount of activities and action around the area.

The grounds were spotless and the restaurant staff along with pool staff were very friendly and efficient. We stayed on the 5th floor of the Castilla and that was the most disappointing part of our trip but didn't spend time worrying about it as we weren't in our room very long. The room was clean, but very old and needed updating. The showerhead sprayed in all directions which did not make for a relaxing shower. Being on the 5th floor we had a very large patio which was nice but was also placed 2 floors above the bar, which meant we had music as we were trying to fall asleep.

The beach was lovely, sandy and rock free. You could walk both directions and by breakfast time each day, we had our 10,000 steps in. There are many vendors on the beach but we found them to be very kind as well. If you were not interested in anything they had you could say no thanks and they would move on. We did meet one very sweet vendor and I would recommend tracking her down for no pressure sales and a very kind heart. Her name is Bianca and she always has some type of pink on.

Now the most important piece.... the food. We had the upgraded Elite package which allowed us to dine at all the restaurants. Since it was January, it was easy to get into each place and there wasn't a meal that disappointed. Speed is not their game so plan to relax and make dinner an all-evening affair. We would always start by meeting up at the sports bar in the Moro for drinks and then heading to our dinner location. If I had to pick one food item to comment on, I would say that the Mediterranean salad at the upstairs Marina was amazing. Since the resort has different levels of inclusiveness, you were always presented with a bill to sign. That made us really wonder if we would have fees when we left (especially on the night we had 5 bottles of wine) but we did not owe anything due to the Elite package. The only time we ate at the main buffet was the night we arrived. The food was fine but we felt like we were in a college cafeteria. Each evening they hosted a show at 7:30. We only saw a portion of one so do not have any other details other than that it occurs.

Yes, we would go back. We would try stay at the Moro instead of the Castilla and would access the Elite package for upgrades. The Marina is another option for lodging but requires a shuttle over and has a very quiet atmosphere.

There are three key elements to any vacation;
1) Great accommodations,
2) A motivated, friendly staff who genuinely seek to make your vacation special, &
3) Good weather.

Our stay at El Cid Resorts Castilla was exceptional! The property was very much more than we expected from the beach location, the pools, the availability of pool lounges, the spacious & clean rooms and the number of quality restaurants. Above and beyond that, they have a fully functioning bakery and their baked goods were the best we have experienced in a resort setting.

The staff are well tuned to the needs of those who visit El Cid and they genuinely seek to make sure your stay and experience is (so long as it is in their control) the best it can be. They have the authority to ensure any reasonable issues that arise are resolved there on the spot. That is a reflection of El Cid's management and the kind of people they hire. They are well trained and practice what they preach.

The weather is outside of the resorts control, but Mazatlan, Mexico has beautiful beaches and wonderful people on and off the resort. We felt safe in the resort and around the city.

In short, we strongly recommend anyone considering to spend any length of time in Mazalan should consider staying at the El Cid resort above all other choices.

I have visited El Cid Castilla every January for the past 7 years. I've reviewed this resort in the past, but felt that I should post an update due to the impact of COVID on the travel situation in Mexico. Basically, I can state that traveling to Mazatlan is extremely safe. In fact, I believe that it is far safer than doing similar activities in my home state of Minnesota. The El Cid staff take safety precautions very seriously, yet it is not oppressive in any way. Mask wearing is expected when in any of the buildings (except when eating or drinking) and temperatures are taken when entering the resort and going into the restaurants. Hand sanitizer is plentiful and its use is expected. All staff maintain a professional distance and wear masks and/or face shields. Overall, I felt extremely safe when at the resort. In general, I also felt very safe when off the resort in Mazatlan. Citizens were very good about wearing masks, even when walking outside, and all store and restaurant workers were as well. Again, temperature checks and hand sanitizer is the norm. I was extremely comfortable wherever I went.

El Cid Castilla is a great vacation destination. The pools are wonderful, the beach is great, and the rooms are very nice for a family, couple, or solo traveler. The number of restaurants open each night is down now due to COVID so your options are limited, but they are all good places to eat and have extremely courteous and helpful staff. The breakfast buffet is excellent (shout out to Cesar, our amazing waiter). The activities staff is great and will keep you busy and entertained all day if you choose to participate. I have found all staff to be friendly and want you to be happy. Juan Martinez, the outstanding pool concierge, has helped me out on a number of occasions.

If you are concerned about the recent travel restrictions from the US, El Cid has you covered. They have made arrangements with local clinics to offer COVID testing so you will have your results in time for your return flight to the US. It's great that they take that worry off your plate.

To summarize, El Cid Castilla is a great choice for a vacation, whether there is a pandemic going on or not. I will not hesitate to return soon.

Another great year at El Cid. Free Wi Fi was an added bonus and our bed seemed fairly new with a memory foam mattress. Most staff were friendly and helpful, especially the waiters/waitresses. Reserving a restaurant in the evening proved to be a challenge with mostly having to eat at 9 or 9:30 pm. Drinks were good and resort was clean.

Water is available at a couple locations in the resort and the bars will give you water, the bottle water in the room, they charge you for and the coffee is also charged for daily if you use it. Coffee can be picked up at the Buffet , and taken back to your room, but it means walking down there, it wasn’t very impressive when they call it all inclusive. Thanks.
