Detailed Reviews
We chose this place because it was a very busy time and there weren't many options around. It's a good inexpensive hotel, no frills, but also no problems. I think one of its main perks is being a bit off the busier side of town, so it's actually very quiet at night, without it being dangerous to walk around. And it's still very close to the beach. It has limited parking, but we were able to park fine. The rooms are okay and the service was also fine. Overall a good choice.

I highly recommend the Azteca if you are looking for a budget week in the sun. Be sure to check your room location before unpacking - some of the rooms back onto the noisy back alley. Bring your own cheap pillows (at $5 each they are worth it). Pillows provided were very old and thin. Leave the new pillows there when you leave - for all the other budget travellers who will replace you. Housekeeping staff could not have been more sweet - please tip them, they only make about $4-5 US a day. We tipped $2 US a day, and the service we got was spectacular (they came in and folded all our clothes we so carelessly dropped on the floor!). Pool area was OK but just hop across the street for the great beaches! I'll go back next year for sure.

This is a great hotel if it is not important to you to be right on the beach. We have stayed at Azteca many times and will always come back. It is a really clean and friendly hotel and it is very centrally located so walking to shopping, beach and restaurants is very short.

The non guest drunks who come in droves are running the show here. Absolutely disgusted that a paying hotel guest comes secondary to the $5. a drink drunk who is not a paying hotel guest is sitting in your chairs around your tables, leaving a mess behind. Can't have the family around with such vulgar language and behavior. This is the 2nd time in my life where I have went to a front desk and apologized for such ill behaved Canadians.

Within two hours of arriving in Mazatlan, our room was entered at the Azteca Inn, a keyed entry, and we were robbed. The maids were already gone, the only other people who had the key was the front desk. We were in the pool and we noticed an employee, the pool maintenance man, was constantly walking around the bar and checking out the people in the pool. We thought nothing of it, thought it was only security. The following morning, when we checked for our money belt, it was missing. Our credit cards, passports, travelers checkes, driver's licenses all gone! We talked to the front desk, the woman spoke clear English. We canceled everything, losing an entire day of our vacation. We went to the U.S. Consulate's office and spoke to Patty Fletcher about what occurred. We told her our suspicions about the pool guy. Patty went to the hotel and spoke to them and warned them that a police report had already been filed and suggested strongly to them that the items be returned. Two days later, everything was returned. There were two beds in our unit, we'd removed the pillows from one to use on the bed that we were sleeping on. The pillows were returned to the the other bed and miraculously enough, under those pillows was the money belt. We reported to the front desk, the same woman who had helped us two days earlier that the items had been returned. At this point this woman who spoke clear English said, "No comprende, no seabla English!" Tells all! There was no way that that money belt was under those pillows earlier! We took all the bedding off the bed, moved mattresses, etc. We are well seasoned travelers and are not careless.

We stayed in a room right by the pool and when we come into our room after dinner we have over 100 cockroaches in the bathroom and had about 1000 little white spiders coming out from around the mirror....its was awful,,,we changed rooms to the 3rd floor and it was ok...I would not stay there again this was my 3 rd visit

We just spent 2 weeks at the Azteca Inn and we were very pleased with our unresearched Hotel. The Hotel was clean, comfortable and within walking distances of some of the best restaurants Mazatlan has to offer. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.
The furnishings are a little sparse(no suitcase racks) and no vanity in the bathroom. If you want a plush hotel this one is not for you. We truly liked this hotel and found it to meet our needs very well. The Hotel restaurant was always busy at breakfast time. The food is very good and they have the best toast and strawberry jam! This the only restaurant we found that did not use prepackaged packs of jam. It was served in a small dish and had whole strawberries in it. Delicious!!

I've been to various cities in Mexico over a dozen times. I typically try to find budget hotels to save a dollar or two and I'm very generous about sharing the names and locations of some of the great finds around.....Azteca Inn is NOT one of them.
Our A/C unit leaked from the ceiling creating a large puddle of water in the middle of our room. I contacted the front desk and they sent someone to inspect it. I was assured the "puddle" wouldn't continue to grow as they'd solved the problem. In the morning our entire room was flooded by 1 1/2" of water! All of our suitcases that were on the floor were entirely soaked through.....great way to start the week's vacation. I contacted the front desk to explain what had happened and they refused to give us a refund - "Oh, so sorry seniorita!"
Also, the pool was dirty and much too warm and the pool-side bar they boast of wasn't even open the two days we stayed there.
I hate to give bad reviews but when you get such poor customer service or lack thereof, I have to say something.

Last year i took my first trip to Mazatlan, Mexico. It was amazing!!!! The Azteca In is a remarkably cheap hotel located across the street from "The Playa Hotel" the rooms are adequate but if your there to party it doesn't really matter. it has a respectable pool and hot tub, the rooms have showers but no bath tubs, a/c, and a ceiling fan, compared to the more expensive hotels that won't even let you bring in your own beer, this is the best bang for your buck in mazatlan. have a good trip!!!!

We stayed at the Azteca for two weeks in January 2006, as part of a package deal from Vancouver. The Azteca is good value as included in the package. It is a motel style hotel located in the heart of the Zona Dorada. It is not ocean front, but is within easy walking distance of many restaurants and beachfront hotels. The hotel is three stories surrounding the parking lot and small pool. Rooms on the top floor away from the pool are quieter, although the hotel was generally quiet at night. I didn't even need to wear earplugs! The room and bathroom were quite large, and the TV has english language stations. The room was basic and clean. We saw no bugs anywhere in the hotel. The staff were all cheerful and helpful. The restaurant is especially good for breakfast and is very busy with locals as well as tourists.

Hello! We continue in service. We need to improve our skills at motivating customers to share their feedback, good and not so good. Best regards.
Sorry can't help as being a non smoker , did see some people smoking outside though .
Good day, we do not offer the service. You can pay for a cab directly at the airport.
Best regards.
Good day! We used to be pet friendly but not anymore.
Sorry!
