If you love El Centro and have simple requirements, this place is 5 stars. You can’t beat the location—sit on your balcony and people watch the malecon. Retreat to the effective air conditioning. Then head out to the restaurants, stroll around etc. The staff is great, the courtyard is ancient and lovely. Cons: there’s only the two beds. No other furniture, no fridge, and low water pressure. No elevator, pack light. This was our first time there and we loved it. We bought day passes at Hotel Playa Mazatlan when we wanted that palapa lifestyle, but we preferred the bustle of el Centro for our home base.

Last time in Mazatlan we stayed at the Rui Emerald Bay. It was really nice but we were wanting a different experience this trip. The friends we met at La Siesta filled the bill. A nice vintage hotel in an excellent location for walking and seeing the fine city. Very clean and we had no complaints. We are looking forward to our next visit. We love the Centro area.

It’s a little hotel that gets the job done. You get what you pay for. Close to the Mercado and the beach. Book the ocean view. It’s a beautiful sight. Was one of the things I enjoyed when waking up to see the beach. The restaurant downstairs was good.

We stayed for 7 days at the Hotel La Siesta. We wanted to be in the Historical area of town and get the full flavor of what that area would be like to live full time. The hotel wa clean, people very curteous, very helpful, internet service available free during certin times of the day. We took an ocean view, and although it faced the busy malecon, it was very quiet. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Mindy

This is an inexpensive and comfortable place that will give you the opportunity to experience the historical district of Mazatlan and give you a little taste of life in “real” Mexico. It is not for faint-of-heart North Americans who expect everything to be squeaky-clean and perfectly operational. The rooms rather remind me of any number of inexpensive rural motels I’ve experienced in the US. You can select either ocean view or garden view rooms. “Garden view” for all practical purposes means “no view,” but those rooms are cheaper. The ocean view rooms put you right above a busy street, but the view is very pleasant and you can sit out on the balcony to enhance the enjoyment. It can be a little noisy at night, especially if you leave the window open. The people who run the place are great.

Bottom line: If you are looking for the beach experience and pristine North American style accommodations, don’t go here. If you are open-minded and willing to absorb a little Mexican culture, and if you are more interested in sidewalk cafes, visiting the Mercado, and roaming the narrow streets of Antigua Mazatlan, then Hotel La Siesta is a great home base.

I just returned from a two week stay in Mazatlan. Although I have traveled to Mexico for many years, this was my first visit to Mazatlan. I decided to stay at the La Siesta Hotel for five nights until I familiarized myself with the area. Since it was the off-season, there were many vacant hotel rooms. The La Siesta is a well run, clean, comfortable and safe facility. The staff is friendly and efficient in maintaining the property in a smooth operating fashion. The ocean view rooms have a spectacular view of the Pacific and are about seven bucks more than the garden rooms. I enjoy muy tranquillo, so the downtown location was perfect. Although I could have stayed in other hotels for about the same price, some less expensive, I stayed two weeks at La Siesta and enjoyed every minute of it. Bonus, ESPN,CNN and free internet e-mail check.

We paused 1 night in Mazatlan while travelling. The Siesta was great for us. Located right along the ocean in the very attractive "old city" area of the waterfront, the hotel itelf has a kind of funky, almost Art Nouveau decor that we liked. Not lavish by any means (certainly not a resort) but functional and well located for the traveller. And very good value. Friendly helpful staff provided, among other things, a photocopied street map to help us get out of town most easily next morning. We would use it again.

i really enjoyed my trip to mazatlan, mostly because the hotel was so great...quaint, charming, clean. it is worth the extra money to have an ocean view, and it is sooo worth it to take good care of the housekeeping staff. i didn't have one single problem with either cleanliness or bugs. go figure!
it is worth noting,
if you don't give a rat's behind about culture, exploration, or history, please, please please stay at an all-inclusive resort.

Just spent three nights at the La Siesta. What a great location! Our room was clean, the water was hot and the air conditioner cold. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and El Faro. On top of the Shrimp Bucket and close to El Bajia for lunch and dinner. If you want sparkling new, stay in the Gold Zone, but if you ambiance, stay at the La Siesta!
