Detailed Reviews
We spent a fortnight at the El Cid Marina Beach Hotel, Mazatlan. Location beautiful: views of the Marina & Sea of Cortez. Two nice pools, one heated, each with snack bar and close-by beach reachable with hotel's water taxi. Golf carts, transporting guests, are driven by the bellhops. They handle laundry service (also, there is a Laundromat at the Marina.), organize private sightseeing tours with certified guides (fun in a Pulmania, a converted Volkswagon with a roof and doors but no windows!), etc. Valerio, a bellhop manager, is great as are the bellhops (called Botones): Enrique, Edgar, Juan, Leonardo, Rafa, Alexys, David, Ivan, Miguel, Julio, Victor, Mario, Jose, Octavio, & Alfredo. When I said "gracias", the response was always "es un placer" (It is a pleasure!)
There are two restaurants and a bar. The food "ok", sometimes really good and other times not so delicious. We received good service from Francisco, Carlos, Felipe, Edy, Mitchell, and Guillermo. A front office manager, Armando, was delightful, and the Reception Staff knowledgeable and helpful.
The accommodations are comfortable. We were in a 1-bedroom: kitchenette/¾ refrigerator/freezer, 2 hot plates, kitchen sink, table/chairs, living room: 2 sofas/chair, small balcony//chairs, and separate bedroom, 2 sinks, toilet & stall shower. The shower's hot water handle loosened and maintenance arrived within minutes of our call. Our room maid, Aide, was fabulous!
This was our first visit to Mazatlan and we plan to return!

We visited for three weeks in early November. The resort was very clean and we felt very safe. Everything was sanitized and all employees and visitors were masked and practiced social distancing. Every restaurant and entrance to the lobbies had temperature checks at the door. The food was great at all the restaurants on site and at the El Moro resort. The shuttle between the two locations ran about every 15 minutes so we were able to travel between the resorts whenever we wanted. The ladies at the Millionaires club (Marissa, Alejandra, Evelyn, and Astrit) were very helpful and always willing to answer any questions. They secured reservations for us to the restaurants and always had a friendly smile and a warm welcome (even by name. I don't know how they can remember everyone!)
At the marina pools, we were treated like kings by Fidel, Hector, and David. They made our stay very relaxing and enjoyable.
Emilia at the concierges desk was great with a hello smile and wave every time we crossed paths in the lobby.
We ran into an old friend, Eddie, many times while he was waiting tables during breakfast. All the bellboys were great.
It was a great trip. We are planning another visit next September or October.
I highly recommend this resort and Mazatlán for a great stay in Mexico.

+1
I have visited several areas of Mexico and Mazatlan is definitely my favourite so far. Easy to travel by local bus, very SAFE and very beautiful.
We stayed in a spacious one-bedroom suite in the marina tower. The kitchen was completely renovated but I found the rest of the suite to be dated and some furniture surfaces were quite dinghy. The performers at the El CID Castilla hotel dinner shows are absolutely fabulous; we always made sure never to miss a performance. We had all inclusive bands that allowed us to eat at any of the El CID hotels and my favourite was the breakfast buffet at the El Morro, huge selection and very tasty. You can eat outside on their beach side patio, million dollar breakfast view! My favourite place to eat lunch was the A Lacarte restaurant at the El CID Marina, very high quality meals and a good menu. The staff at all the hotels are very friendly and most are quite fluent in English. The pool bar has a great selection of food which is freshly made for you. To get to the beach you can either take the water shuttle to cross the water way and get over to the beach or take the hotel shuttle to El Cid Castilla or Morro and access the beach from there. Mazatlan is a very walkable city and we would explore for hours every day. You can walk for miles on the beautiful beaches and the Malecon is also great fun to walk as there are many amazing pieces of art work placed all along the path. Downtown is just a short bus ride for 8 pesos and so much fun to experience. The cathedral and the square in front of it, the huge market that carries a vast variety of merchandise; you could get wander all day. I think I left my heart in Mazatlan, very hospitable resort and a warm, welcoming city. I can’t wait to visit again.

(Cons first) Well we got picked up at the airport and taken to the hotel, which was fine, checked in no problem, then a lady got a hold of us and got us to give her $20 and she said she will give it back to us at the morning meeting and after a bit we wondered hmmmm...
We talked to someone that stayed there and was told its a timeshare thing, so we cancelled and then they hounded us everyday to come to the meeting, phone calls, messages under the door all the time etc etc. When we checked in they said no wifi in the resort unless you pay I think it was $12.00 a day, you can't eat Lobster, steak or shrimp or have premium drinks unless you pay an extra $50 USD a day. We got taken to our room and the fellow told us if we use the coffee its $3.00 per package, the bottles of water on the counter have to be paid for as well if used. Sitting there thinking WTH kind of place is this?
(Pros). Well they have two restaurants one a Buffett and one you have to book a time to eat at. We only ate at the buffet and the food was fantastic there, the rooms are beautiful, pool is nice and warm, the appearance of the place is very good, someone always opens the door for you, the water taxi takes you to their beach which was very nice and excellent service.
Now if they didn't have the two tier system, wifi and hounded you about the time share thing I would have given them 5 stars. Will I stay there again, well probably but it maybe at one of their other locations that are cheaper.

Dear Guest, First of all, we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. It is thorough guest reviews such as yours that we can assess the standards of our service and therefore makes changes, so as to meet and exceed your expectations. Please be assured that we addressed the issues you mentioned with the departments involved in order to make the necessary improvements. It is worth mentioning that the internet is still a chargeable service in most internationally managed hotels in Mazatlan and our current rates are in line with other hotels in Mazatlan and Mexico. The internet line is however high-speed, we have an on-site technician and a 24-hour help desk to overcome any internet-related issues. We would like to share with you that the collection of these amenities (bottles of water and coffee) is a voluntary contribution for the benefit of Fundación El Cid, AC, a non-profit organization committed to strengthening and improving the well-being and quality of life of all who work at El Cid Resorts, including their families, the community and the environment in which they live. We always appreciate the contribution made by our guests, but they are not obliged to make it. We apologize if this was not to your liking. We are thankful for the opportunity to continue improving every day. We would hope that you reconsider coming back to stay with us when your plans might bring you to Mazatlan again in the future. Sincerely, Isaías Gomez General Manager

Just spent a month at the El Cid Marina in Mazatlan.
Checkin was very smooth. We were missing one nights accommodation in the middle of our 4 weeks and the reception lady was very quick to find us a room. We had a one bedroom booked for one week and a studio for the other three weeks and she was able to accommodate us in one room without moving for the entire month.
Our luggage was sprayed and sanitized upon arrival. There is temperature checks and sanitizing whenever you leave the property and re-enter.
They have numerous sanitizing stations around the pool areas and masks are mandatory in any public areas, coming and going to your room, and washrooms. The hygiene level is very high and we were very impressed with their standard of hygiene.
The food stations were all handled by only staff. We were unable to serve any buffet items yet by yourself. They dished out everything for everyone And again that impressed us with keeping a very high hygiene level.
We spent most of our time around the activity pool and we were never disappointed by the level of participation and availability of the activity staff. Dante and his crew are the most professional and fun staff there is. They ensure that masks are worn at all activities and their knowledge of Spanish and English is fantastic. High five to Dante, Anel, Jordan, Ricardo, and Moyses.
The service around the pool area was a bit slow to start with as they were training new staff but it quickly became very efficient with JayJay, Carlos, Hector and Oscar helping in whenever needed.
The outdoor restaurant called La Terezza had excellent service with Issac always ensuring everyone was getting all they needed — especially our ‘double Baileys’ for the breakfast coffee.
Will definitely be back to see our Mexican family and friends at the Marina

My friend and I have stayed at the El Cid Puerto morales several times and loved it. This time we decided to try the West coast. We picked the El Cid Beach hotel but it is part of a large resort that has two main hotels, a country club and a marina with pools. All are walkable except the marina, but a 4 minute shuttle takes you there. We picked the all inclusive plan. Our room was on the 26th floor with amazing views of the city and water. The room was very clean and nice.. no complaints! They constantly clean public spaces and bathrooms. All staff wear masks. They take your temp to walk in and hand sanitize! All their restaurants were amazing. We enjoyed everything from special sit down to buffets where they served you. They also serve you poolside and beach side at all resorts. The service was wonderful everywhere we went. The beach was busy but nice and they do not get massive amounts of seaweed that needs to be raked and removed. Matazalan is a bit cooler than Cancun so bring a light sweater. The best kept secret is the private beach at the marina resort! It is very peaceful and yes you can get the same quality service there! We think next time we will stay there. If you want more busy, then the beach at the beach hotel is fun and everyday except Sunday a band plays. There is a lot more people there but security only lets guests up to pool areas with wrist bands. They have adult only areas too. My only suggestion for this resort is that they need music like a guitar player or band in their lounges in the evening. The other El Cid had really great shows as well in the evening. I am not sure if covid stopped all this. We did see a broadway dance show which was good. We can’t wait to go again! They will try and sell you a membership and promise lots of great stuff but time is money to me and I wasn’t willing to give up my beach time! Just say no thank you and they will leave you alone, same with vendors on the beach, not too many come by. Oh we did take a bus for a few pesos down to the main waterfront and toured a church with lots of little shops and took the bus back with no issues. Oh and they covid tested us 3 days before our plane, right in the lobby... results that evening! We will be back!! Thanks El Cid! Oh and tip generously as the people take such great care to make sure everything is perfect!

This marina resort is beautiful! The people are friendly and the staff can't do enough for you. The food is excellent and the accommodations are top notch. The resort has 3 pools, including a kids pool and a heated pool. The resort has a fleet of boats that you can rent by the day complete with captain and tackle. Don't think you have to be a boater to enjoy this resort - the view, beach and restaurants are amazing!
I was impressed with the safety practices of the resort. Every staff member wore a mask at all times. There is a pad for you to step on with disinfectant on it to sanitize the bottom or your shoes and the lobby area is sprayed with disinfectant - tables, chairs, floor area. Hand sanitizer is everywhere and given when entering the restaurants. I can't wait to go back to this wonderful resort!

The resort has done everything to make us all feel safe. They had glass between the food and the customers at the buffet and workers wore gloves and masks when filling our plates. We were required to wear masks everywhere unless eating or drinking or at the pool.
We were impressed.

Very impressed with the COVID precautions demonstrated throughout the resort. We requested a quiet non-smoking room and were given a smoking room overlooking the pool. Since occupancy seemed low, we were curious about this situation. Also, a very loud party commenced next to our room after midnight. Thankfully, other travels must have notified hotel personnel as the party quieted down within an hour. Also, our reservation (via Hotel.Com) explicitly stated that WiFi was included in room stay though when we inquired, we were told that was not the case. When we questioned further, we were told that we'd need to walk down to the hotel lobby and show proof of WiFi inclusion. We were very tired after a long day, and it wasn't worth the effort. Overall, felt that the hotel should've made an extra effort to encourage repeat business. Not accommodating requests and inclusions and charging for in-room coffee and water seemed stingy for an upscale resort.
