Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
The hotel has nice modern rooms and three pools on two levels. The standard city view room that we stayed in is comfortable but is the smallest Doubletree room I have seen. We haven’t eaten here so no comment on the restaurant or bars. We are only staying for one night so it’s fine for our purposes. The Internet worked fine for me. I got 38 MB download speed they have free parking outdoors across the street or 100 pesos a night for the inside parking which is limited in quantity.
There is a large third-floor public area with seating. Most of the seating showed some wear and discoloration they kind of picked a color that shows dirt.

The avenue in front of the building was under construction, during February. It took us 40 minutes to arrive from the airport.
It has a simple, modest lobby. The reception offers three different plans, marked with different color bracelets: Green for lodging only, white for breakfast included and brown for all inclusive.
The premises include 2 restaurants, 2 bars and a coffee shop; I wonder how they manage to satisfy their All inclusive guests. Anyway, the All inclusive option is not displayed in the web page; you have to ask for it by phono or travel agent. After 2 days we were tired of the small menu selection and toured around town.
The bedrooms are large, with very simple decoration. The bathroom is small, mostly the sink, with no counter for toiletries. There’s a shower, no tub. The closet is large, with robes, iron and ironing board. Our room had a nice terrace, with a table and 2 chairs, not loungers. I wouldn’t consider this a 5 stars hotel; maybe four....
Be careful with the very slippery shower floor, even the anti slippery mat couldn’t stick to it, not even pressing the suction pads. The door stays ajar if you don’t pull it. The curtains are thin and don’t block the sunlight in the morning, even though our sea side room faced the West.

We stayed at theLocal Dec 28 to Jan 4 2020 and we really loved the hotel! It is a fairly new hotel, maybe 2 years old, and the rooms are very nice & modern & very clean with updated spacious bathrooms and a nice balcony with incredible views from the 17th floor. We did end up on street side as that was part of the package with Swoop and did try to change to ocean view, but because of it being New Year's week the hotel was full. Read the reviews before you go and expect the noise from the disco next door until 4 am. Bring ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones if you are disturbed by that. We did fine with ear plugs. Or switch to ocean view if at all possible where it is less. we were told by a travel agent once back home that any hotel along that strip has the same "problem" with the disco's. It is not the hotel's fault. So go prepared! Staff were awesome right from desk to hotel greeters outside who would get you a cab or pulmonia if needed. we did have a little issue with the front desk staff, but I believe that was mostly because of language barrier and it was quickly resolved. The pools are amazing & beautiful with lots of lounge chairs and towels you did not have to sign for and well kept, bar staff friendly, but the last 2 days we were there the pool bar was closed on the 2nd level close to the ocean so we did have to wait longer for drinks. But they did do beach service as well so there's that! Lovely beach, lots of chairs and they'd bring down more if needed. We did the breakfast buffet option only (part of Swoop pkg again) and the food was great! I don't know what else you would want for breakfast! every option, fresh juices, eggs any way you want, waffles, French toast, pancakes, and bacon every day! also baked goods, oatmeal etc. We also ate at the restaurant a couple of times in the evening, very reasonable prices and the food was great with good service. I believe they do offer an all inclusive option if that's what you desire. I must mention Iran Espino the pool concierge who is an amazing man we met at this hotel. He works so hard at his job to try and make everyone happy and is on top of everything. Not only that he is a wonderful person and gave us info on where to go and what to do, and our last night was spent at the Plaza Machado on his recommendation, which was simply amazing! The restaurant he recommended was delicious! He came the next morning before we left to see how we made out and to say goodbye and give us a hug. Very outstanding customer service from this fellow. I would return to this hotel, and although it is not right in the Golden Zone it is only a 15 minute walk or 5 minute pulmonia ride so very close. All in all we enjoyed our stay at this hotel very much!

First the good the facilities are beautiful wonderful pools and a Starbucks right in the lobby. But would have been nice to have a functioning shower for 100 bucks plus a night and the noise is a LOT if you're facing the street late into the night. After 2 days they refused to move me to the beach side although they had multiple vacant rooms so i moved to the Holiday Inn down the street for a better price.

Absolutely fantastic hotel!
I had an oceanview room and the food was top notch. Special mention goes to Iran and Augustine. They made our stay so enjoyable. They have a great eye for detail and offering wonderful customer service.
The local is walking distance to almost everything. You can use the bikes provided by the hotel for free or 11 pesos gets you on the city bus and well worth it. Taxis are easy to find as well.
Nothing bad to say about my experience except for the loud night club situated next door. Ask for an oceanview room on the opposite end of the night club.

From our first steps into the lobby, it was obvious this hotel was a standout. Porter greeted us when our taxi arrived, front desk was efficient at their job, knowledgeable, and extremely friendly. Upon hearing it was our 20th anniversary and we had honeymooned in Mazatlan, Pau surprised us with an ocean-view suite that is tastefully decorated. Housekeeping left several choices of pillows and left our room immaculate. The 5 pool areas and beautiful decks are second to none; leaving enough space for people to not feel overcrowded. Pool wait staff always available but not too pushy. The breakfast buffet is a feast in itself; everything you could need: fresh, and delicious. Internet is fast and reliable; doesn’t drop at all. I have read reviews that it was noisy but we did not have this experience at all. All we could hear was the sound of the surf at night. We have been to Mazatlan ten times but this is by-far the best location we have stayed at.

Issues with the first room we stayed in, leak in the sower you could hear clearly at night. 2nd bedroom had issues as well (617).. The Fire Sensor kept flashing a white light noticeable when all lights were turned off, it was like a bright flash every 5-6 seconds. Maintenance did know what to do, so they put tape around it and covered it up.. Not sure in Mexico but in US that is illegal. Drawers could not be open as the door in front was not adjusted properly to open al the way. The Balcony Sliding Door could not be close all the way in order to keep the noise out of the room. The Gym area was very lonely and scary, especially for a woman to use alone, I prohibited my wife from using the gym without me present. There was no Bar at the hotel and the one restaurant you could get a drink at, the liquor could not be seen and had no good selection of liquors like Single Malt Scotch or Cabernet Sauvignon for that matter. The restaurant had a very non-inviting and monotunous look, a look that will turn off anyone looking for a decent meal. It reminded me of the Cafeteria in high school growing up.. My wife and I had to go out for Dinner and Drinks every night for 7 nights while on Vacation at your Hotel. The 1 late lunch I had to my surprise was acceptable. The service however was excellent, the staff was friendly.. that much I will give you. Sorry for the bad review!

We stayed at the doubletree from 1/3-1/9 it was a lovely hotel, clean, not so many people, right on the beach, great views, our hotel faced the hotel (floor 12) there was a morning that the music from the pool was pretty loud we asked if they could turn it down and they did. At night you can sometimes hear the banda and there is a club next door that we heard 1 night overall those are things the hotel can't control. But if you are sensitive to noise this might bother you. Already planning to go back in March!

The hotel has a small lobby and not much of a vibrant environment. During the week of the Mazatlan carnival, there is hardly anyone at the pool. The environment is very sterile and uninviting. There is only one Consierge, without any information such as excursions or activities that you could partake. It’s a drag getting any information out. Their Covid tests are 30% more than other hotels nearby.
The oceanfront rooms have a nice view, yet all the balconies butt right next to each other so there’s not much privacy. The bathroom fixtures are extremely cheap, the sink doesn’t drain to the point where it almost overflows just to have a shave, and handheld shower heads are so cheap that they don’t shoot the water straight, the water goes to an angle.
Overall, not a good experience at this hotel. There are many other options in Mazatlan were you feel very invited as you walk into the lobby, with plenty of activities, staff concierge tables, excursion options, large lobby with restaurants and amenities.
I will be cutting my stay short here, checking out a day earlier than expected. I think I would enjoy myself more at home or at another property.

+1
The hotel is located on the beach. Many of the rooms have an ocean view as ours did. You can hear the ocean waves. There are several great restaurants and a "Fresh Market" grocery store nearby which top rate. That is the only positive that I can say about this hotel.
This hotel does not meet any DoubleTree standards. The first negative experience started during check-in where we had to wait a long time in the lobby for an extended period of time for our reservation to be processed. When we finally got into our assigned room, we noticed a great deal of wear and tear on the furniture, in the closet with broken doors, the ceiling in the bathroom actively peeling with a water leak from above affecting our unit. One of the light switches was awkwardly located UNDER the desk. The telephone was very dusty. The towels, which should have been white, had brown stains on them. We observed over time, a complete lack of maintenance on the premises. The outdoor shower at the top of the stairs when coming up from the beach did not work at all (missing valve handle), so people had to rinse off their sandy feet in the pool. Later we discovered that our balcony railing was separating from a bracket affixed to the glass barriers creating a hazardous condition. After a couple of days staying in the hotel, we had experienced malfunctioning of the elevators and we had to walk down the stairs to exit the hotel for the day. That same day, there was a total loss of power in the entire hotel for a couple of hours. The next day, there was yet another loss of power. We were told that it would be off for a short time, but it lasted half of the day. Simultaneously, there was no running water in the hotel which means that the toilets could not flush at all. To add insult to injury, there was a complete loss of free WiFi for the remainder of our stay.
The whole place is just not maintained adequately. Things just look like they are falling apart. It has the potential of being a nice hotel especially given its oceanfront location, but I would not recommend staying here at all in the hotel's current condition.
