Detailed Reviews
This review is mostly to let you know how awesome the staff is at this location. Salvador at Joy Squad is absolutely amazing! He was so kind and fun with our daughter and went out of his way to make sure she was having a good time. By the pool we had Jesus as a server and he was just lovely, funny and warm. And last but not least- our maid Laura. She made towel animals in our room each day that just made our daughter so happy. Just a simple thing that went so far. The people make this place great. We also did a timeshare presentation that was pretty quick and easy. Patricio made sure not to make it last too long and didn’t become rude when we didn’t purchase. Now for some tips.... The WiFi didn’t really work in the room, the best place for it was by the pool. Don’t expect to be able to work remotely from your room. Not a big deal for us, but could really mess up someone else’s plans. The pool seemed to be busy at night and empty in the morning. If you want the pool to yourself, get down there at 10am, it was lovely. The reason that I am giving it a 4star instead of 5 is because of the buildings themselves. The pool is run down and dirty, the rooms need some updating and the beds are pretty uncomfortable. Not a huge deal, but definitely noticeable.

We had a 2 bedroom suite with a beautiful ocean view. This Mayan Palace is (for the time being) small enough and quiet enough that we could hear the surf from our 6th floor room. Very charming! The rooms were a little dated but very clean and comfortable. The kitchen had 2 burner stove and small refrigerator along with enough dishes, pans,
etc. for the minimal meal prep we needed. The pool was clean with plenty of lounge chairs. There was construction noise during the day but was not as noticeable at pool. We ate at the restaurant a couple of times and the food was fine even if the service was a bit laid back at times. The service staff at restaurant and bars were attentive and friendly. I had the best massage of my life by Lucia! She is amazing! Mario at the concierge desk was always a available, helpful, and friendly as were Miranda and Salvatore with activities. I won't take any stars away for time share pressure but would recommend avoiding if possible and the City tour (after being rescheduled once) was a joke.

Had lots of fun relaxing and making friends. Overall the staff are great. The front desk was very helpful. Every morning they helped us with making reservations for various activities and get change for the bus. The bell boys were quick with a smile, a greeting, and to help. The pool side restaurant remembered that I don’t like cilantro and always made sure that my food did not have it, even made a special salsa without it for me. The Joy Squad are super friendly and lots of fun. We laughed as we played games and exercised poolside.
There was construction noise but I am an early riser and they have good music poolside so it did not really bother me.
My only complaint is the sales team is a bit too aggressive.

If you want a single restaurant, no entertainment., appliances that don't work and loud noises then this is the resort for you! Our only positive experience here was our cleaning girl Laura who was not only very meticulous but went out of her way to leave us numerous towel florals and animals and one day a real rose!
I had checked a month before our arrival with Vidanta the price of a PCR covid test and was told $64 us and to book it when we arrived . Upon arrival I asked to book it and was told it would cost my husband and I $180 us each. The concierge Edwin said he would look into it. Luckily the next day we met a couple on the resort who informed us of the medical clinic across the parking lot about a hundred yards away. We booked with the Dr. there to have our test done for $110 us each saving us $140 us. The day before our test we asked Edwin what he found out and he said we could get tested at the airport when we leave. (as if we dared to wait until then) The couple we met also told us about the Green bus that was only 12 pesos each to go either to a neat market with restaurants or downtown Mazatlán to the market. It was a very inexpensive and convenient transportation for meals etc. One day upon returning we were locked out of a room and after three trips to the lobby for key changes my husband told them to get it unlocked and let us know when .We sat in the lobby for an hour and a half while the locks were changed and we were not even offered a drink while waiting. Mayan Palace should close this location while renovating as their low standard has left u with a bitter taste for their lack of care. Loved Mazatlán and when we stayed at EL Cid El Morro but not the Mayan Palace

We reserved a hotel room at this resort through RCI requesting an ocean view. We arrived at the check in counter and our first question was (Is our room and ocean view?) The gal helping us said she would check. She proceeded with the check in and again we asked is this an ocean view room again she said she would check. Through the process we asked several times if the room had an ocean view only to get the same answer. She proceeded to charge our credit card for the fees. As she gave us the room keys I asked again if we had an ocean view only to be told it was not! We talked to the manager, and she explained the clerk does not know what room you are getting until the check-in is completed. Then the manager told us she would put our name on a list in case an ocean view room came available. Now how would she know that an ocean view room would be available without checking us in again. The second day we were there someone checked out of and ocean view room on our floor. Again, we went down to see if an ocean view room had come available. We were told no. We checked every day for three days and decided to leave. To top it all the hotel is being torn down and the noise is horrible. Do not stay at this hotel. They are not customer service oriented and you will not enjoy your stay. The worst stay ever!

Dear Deniseadelia, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback about your recent stay with us. We regret the inconveniences of receiving your confirmation from RCI your exchange company must provide you with all the information relating to your stay before your arrival. Lastly, we would like to point out as well that our assignment of ocean view rooms is subject to availability at check-in. Our owners are normally aware of the amenities, the design, and the layout of our rooms. Your comments are always welcomed. Sincerely, Mayan Palace Mazatlan Management.

Mr. Morán and Mr. Chavez. Walking in to your resorts feels like you were just pushed into a corner. Never had I have my room keys handed, after I check in, to a person that wants you to see a Grupo Vidanta presentation. Then have the Scheduler asking a me to put down a $75.00 to go to the presentation and say you'll get it back if you go. Do you have that much mistrust in people? Your schedulers, your friends not ours, will tell you half truths. If you take the word of a scheduler you can count on it not happening. Any request have to written down & signed. Push & push, "what time & day are you going to go to our Mayan presentation?" Your strong arm approach might work on some of your guest but it is a huge turn off to us.
When we arrived we were told about 2 of your 3 buildings were closed and being worked on. What would of been nice, is to provide a small bonus to any of your guest that are putting up with the extra noise. A drink, coffee, water, a free breakfast, 2 for 1 pizza or possibly a 10% off your bill. Wait a minute, you only can get that if you attend your presentation.
A positive note; the Mayan Resort has a good working staff. Thank you Alberto & Jesus for providing your services on the beach.

Vidanta Rip-off
I had visited other Vidanta properties couple of times before. But this one, in no way is a Mayan Palace.
It is an older 70 units hotel, that had number of names before it became a Mayan Sea Garden. Now, after changing the name to a “Palace” Vidanta charge hundred if dollars in “Resort Fees”. It’s a real Rip-Off. Particularly that Vidanta demands those fees much before your arrival, and if canceled only 50% is refundable. Just one word to describes it: a hutzpah.
Half of the units face a very noisy road. Location is very bad. Far from anywhere, and nowhere to walk. You can’t enjoy the sea due to high currants, and the water in the pool is very cold. The occupancy was quite low, what probably had an effect on few activities, that became worthless. As an entertainment you had singing water pipes, and vents, not mentioning the noise from the street. Their herb garden was completely dry, and dead. Internet was very slow, and it took like 20 minutes to get some hot water.
The staff was very pleasant, but nobody was wearing face covers, and almost nobody knew any English.
On my arrival I was placed in the unit on the 8th floor facing the road. Right above my head there was an awful noise, reminding a laundry machine. Not being able to fall asleep, about 1 AM I called the service. They arrived quickly, confirmed the noise, and for the next two hours were unable to solve the problem. For rest of the night, at 3 AM I was moved to other room, also on the road side. But again, because of the noise from the road (particularly motorcycles) I didn’t sleep at all that night. Only in the morning, when the manager had arrived, I was moved to the opposite side on the second floor. My view was right on the roof of the lobby; to the left constructions of their second tower, and to the right on semi demolished buildings, remaining me pictures of the war in Ukraine.
My recommendation: DON’T GO THERE.

I was there for a week. Service (with one exception) was superb. Pool is terrific with a lot of activities if you are so inclined. The Pacific Ocean is a short walk with a nice bar nearby. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced. (The Sunday buffet is worth the trip.)
My one serious criticism was the TV only offered Fox News in English. The room, however, was clean and offered a great balcony. It's a bit of a hike to downtown but taxis and pulmonias (taxis with no windows) are not that expensive.

Everything about the Vidanta Mayan Palace and Sea Garden hotels at this resort is great! Beautiful beach! Clean! And superb, very helpful staff! Luci in the spa provided superb massages! Hector and Mario were awesome at front desk and for concierge! Ana Bella was our maid and we loved her! Great location for families and the food was spot on! They even cooked Mahi Mahi for us that we caught fishing and it was beyond delicious!!! We have been to two other Vidanta locations and they are always wonderful resorts! Can’t go wrong here! We are American and this is our second Mexico trip in the past 3 months. There have been no Covid problems. Very safe!

Let me start with saying the entire staff at the Mayan Palace are fabulous. They are happy, friendly and bend over backwards to be helpful. The resort itself is long over do for the renovation. The Mayan building is getting very run down and the pool is in bad shape and still not heated! We were told over 15 years ago when we purchased that they would be building a Grand Mayan in a few years. Sadly, several years later they told us a Grand Mayan and a Grand Bliss would be built! Boy were we fools! We agreed to the 90 minute owners update because we were told they would only be updating us on the property and we were also told that we would see a model of what the property would eventually look like. The presentation started as usual with a 25 minute talk before going to breakfast. While at breakfast I glanced at my fitness bracelet and Patrico told me to stop looking at my watch. That it made him uncomfortable! Once we went back to the sales office, the presentation turned into exactly that, a sales presentation where they tried to sell us a residential property starting at over $600,000! Patrico became somewhat rude and basically told us that we were wasting the money we had already invested if we did not purchase a residential property. We finally got out of there after 2 hours. We will never do another owners update and at this point we will keep trading and going to other properties in Mazatlan. Oh, they never did show us the model of the future Mazatlan property.

What I joke. I called the number and it went directly to Vida Vacations not the Mayan Palace in Mazatlan. No I don’t want to get an answer from someone in the home office who is not in Mazatlan. You could have at least sent me to someone at the Mayan Palace since they have two strikes against them. You know, Covid 19 and a big building project.
